Oldman Wood

Maryculter () or Kirkton of Maryculter is a village in the Lower Deeside area of Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The River Dee separates it from the town of Peterculter, and the B979 road runs through Maryculter. Maryculter House Hotel lies slightly north of the village along the south bank of the River Dee and to the west of Templars Park. The Old Mill Inn, a former coaching inn dating back to the 18th century lay at the mouth of the Crynoch Burn from 1797 until its demolition in February 2021 after being damaged by an extensive fire. At the edge of the village of Maryculter is a public forest land, known as the Oldman Wood, through which flows the Crynoch Burn. Also the children's theme park, StoryBook Glen, which also consists of a shop and restaurant is located near the old church which is still in use today as a Church of Scotland. Other notable vicinity buildings include the former Lairhillock Inn which closed in March 2020 and Muchalls Castle. Maryculter also has an animal sanctuary, Blaikiewell Animal Sanctuary.

The Den and the Glen (formerly known as Storybook Glen) is a children's park in Maryculter, Scotland, opened in 1984, near the city of Aberdeen. It is best known for its deformed and off-looking models of various fairytale characters, as well as some more modern characters such as The Simpsons,Teletubbies, Shrek, Fireman Sam, Wallace and Gromit, Thomas the Tank Engine and Postman Pat. The most well known statue is of Barney The Dinosaur, which became an internet meme through an image with the caption "cha cha real smooth". It has been rated a 4-star visitor attraction by the Scottish Tourist Board.

Kingcausie is an ancient estate in lower Deeside, Scotland. Once part of the Temple lands of the Knights Templar in Scotland, it passed in the 16th century into the ownership of the Irvine family.

Crynoch Burn is a stream in Aberdeenshire that is a tributary to the River Dee. This stream rises somewhat above Netherley and flows near Netherley House; and thence into the Red Moss, a significant natural bog habitat; thence near the historic Lairhillock Inn; and finally by the village of Maryculter and through Oldman Wood before discharge to the Dee. Headwaters areas include the northern and western slopes of Meikle Carewe Hill and the northern slopes of Curlethney Hill. The soils near its mouth at the River Dee are light and sandy, and the pH level of these greenish brown waters is approximately 8.05, or slightly alkaline.

Lower Deeside is a region along the River Dee in Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen in Scotland. The boundaries of this area are subject to interpretation, since the usage has altered through historic times; however, the area is generally associated with the communities of Durris, Maryculter and Banchory-Devenick in the historic district of Kincardineshire and the communities of Peterculter, Milltimber, Bieldside and Cults in Aberdeen.

Milltimber railway station served the Milltimber area within the parish of Peterculter from 1854 to 1937 on the Deeside Railway that ran from Aberdeen (Joint) to Ballater. This area at that time had a number of mansion houses, estates, etc. such as Culter House, Fairgirth House, Camphill House, Avondow House, Glasterberry House, etc. whose workers, etc. would have used the station. Milltimber was only a short distance from Murtle station. The station was named for the nearby Milltimber Farm.

Milltimber is a suburb of Aberdeen, Scotland, around 6 miles (10 km) west of Aberdeen city centre. From 1854 to 1937 the area was served by Milltimber railway station on the Aberdeen suburban railway. Along with the nearby settlements of Cults and Bieldside, it is home to some of the wealthiest residents of Aberdeen. Facilities in Milltimber are somewhat lacking, with the nearest shop situated in neighbouring Bieldside. However, it is home to a highly rated primary school, a church, and a community building which is used for private functions as well as Boy Scout and Girl Guide troops and similar. Kippie Lodge is a sports and social club, with a 9-hole golf course, swimming pool, sports complex, creche and restaurant. Next to the lodge are the playing fields of the independent Albyn School. In 2009, property website Zoopla listed Milltimber's postcode, AB13, as the most expensive in Scotland with an average house price of £422,760.

The Deeside Way is a 41-mile (66 km) rail trail that follows, in part, the bed of the former Deeside Railway in Aberdeenshire. Forming part of the National Cycle Network (National Route 195) the trail leads from Aberdeen to Ballater.

The International School of Aberdeen (ISA) is a school in Pitfodels, Cults, Aberdeen, Scotland. It takes in students that come from other countries besides the UK, although British students are allowed to attend the school. It was formerly known as the American School in Aberdeen. It is one of four IB World Schools in Scotland that offers the IB Diploma Programme. The other three are St Leonards School, St Andrews, Fettes College, Edinburgh and George Watson’s College, Edinburgh.
