Beaulieu River

Gull Island is a small uninhabited island at the mouth of the Beaulieu River in The Solent. The island is an area of raised ground approximately 1000 metres long and up to around 180 metres wide amid the tidal sands to the east of Needs Ore Point, and separates the river from the sea for its final stretch before entering The Solent. It forms part of the civil parish of Beaulieu. The island acts as shelter for the final kilometre of the Beaulieu River against all but strong easterly currents and so provides moorings for boats on its northern side.Consisting primarily of salt marshes, Gull Island is a relatively new feature of the area and is not shown on Ordnance Survey maps of the 19th century. In 1985, with a view to protecting the salt marshes on the northern side of the Beaulieu River, the Beaulieu estate passed a bill to parliament requesting permission to build a shingle barrier joining the west of the island to the mainland at Warren Farm Spit, cutting off the "Bull Run" channel previously used by yachts. By 1992 the artificial causeway had been completed, extending along the southern end of Gull Island, although erosion of the island continues and will eventually remove all of Gull Island's marshes.The island currently serves as a nature reserve and bird sanctuary.

Exbury House is an English country house in Exbury and Lepe, Hampshire, situated on the edge of the New Forest. It is a Grade II* listed building with associated Grade II* listed parkland and gardens.The house consists of an 18th-century core which was redesigned and refaced in 1927. Constructed of brick and ashlar with a slate roof, it has a rectangular floor plan (with one corner sliced off), 3 storeys and a parapet around the roof. The long side garden frontage has 9 bays and a colonnaded entrance. The main entrance front on the sliced off corner has 5-bays. The gardens (see Exbury Gardens) were laid out by Lionel de Rothschild between 1919 and 1939 and contain specialist collections of rhododendrons and other species.

Exbury Gardens is a 200-acre (81 ha) informal woodland garden in Hampshire, England with large collections of rhododendrons, azaleas and camellias, and is often considered the finest garden of its type in the United Kingdom. Exbury holds the national collection of Nyssa (Tupelo) and Oxydendrum under the National Plant Collection scheme run by the Plant Heritage charity. The gardens are rated Grade II* on the National Register of Historic Parks and Gardens.Lionel Nathan de Rothschild purchased the Exbury estate in 1919 and soon began creating a garden on an ambitious scale, emulating his father's at Gunnersbury Park in London. Exbury House itself is a neoclassical mansion which was built around an earlier structure in the 1920s. The gardens are open to the public, but the house is not.

Royal Air Force Needs Oar Point or more simply RAF Needs Oar Point is a former Royal Air Force advanced landing ground located near Lymington in Hampshire, England. Constructed in 1943 it was used from April 1944 as a base for Hawker Typhoon fighter-bomber squadrons of No. 146 Wing of the 2nd Tactical Air Force supporting the Normandy landings. All four operational squadrons moved to RAF Hurn for two weeks before moving on to France by July 1944 and the airfield was returned to agricultural use in 1945.

Exbury is a village in Hampshire, England. It is in the civil parish of Exbury and Lepe. It lies just in the New Forest, near the Beaulieu River and about a mile from the Solent coast. It is best known as the location of Exbury House, built by the Rothschild family unnecessary spaces, and the famous Exbury Gardens. The Rothschild family still have significant land ownings in the area.

Exbury and Lepe is a civil parish in the New Forest in Hampshire, England. It is bounded to the west by the Beaulieu River, to the south by the shore of the Solent and to the east by the Dark Water. To the north it extends to the New Forest heathland. The parish includes the settlements of Exbury and Lepe.The parish forms part of the New Forest district of the county of Hampshire. The parish, district and county councils are responsible for different aspects of local administration. The parish is within the New Forest East constituency of the United Kingdom Parliament. Prior to Brexit in 2020, it was represented by the South East England constituency for the European Parliament. The parish has a population of 159 living in 78 households.

Newtown Bay is a bay on the northwestern coast of the Isle of Wight, England in the western arm of the Solent. It is a subtle bay located around the exit of the Newtown River. It stretches about 4 km from Hamstead Point in the west to Salt Mead Ledge to the east. It is a remote place as there are few properties along this part of the coast, it being low-lying marshland and home to countless sea birds, and is often visited by walkers, boaters, birdwatchers and beachcombers. The shore is a narrow band of gravel, while the sea bottom is mostly mud or sand. To the east of the river entrance, sticking out into the bay, is a sand spit and further east another sailing hazard called Salt Mead Ledge both of these are only uncovered at low water. From here to Great Thorness to the east and Porchfield to the south, the land is used by the military and is marked on maps as a Danger Area. For this reason the Isle of Wight coastal path skirts this area. A small peninsula into the bay holds Corf county campsite, itself an SSSI. The National Trust owns much of the land and landing at Fishhouse point is not allowed.

Buckler's Hard is a hamlet on the banks of the Beaulieu River in the English county of Hampshire. With its Georgian cottages running down to the river, Buckler's Hard is part of the 9,000-acre (3,600-hectare) Beaulieu Estate. The hamlet is some 2.5 miles (4.0 km) south of the village of Beaulieu.

Lepe Inshore Rescue was established in England in August 1961 as Venturers Search and Rescue. As part of the charity UK Youth Marine Training Academy (YMTA), they provided an inshore rescue service and a land rescue service. It was staffed by volunteers aged 12–21, and was established to show that teenagers, if given the training, equipment, opportunity and trust could provide a valuable service to the adult community.

Lepe is a linear hamlet on the Solent in south-west Hampshire, England. In the civil parish of Exbury and Lepe, It is beside the Dark Water, and has Lepe Country Park, which runs from Stanswood Bay to the mouth of the Beaulieu River.

The Dark Water is a 5.5-mile (8.9 km) river in south-west Hampshire, England. It flows south from a source a few metres north-east of the New Forest, reaching the sea through the end of the Beaulieu River estuary, next to the Solent, at Lepe, part of the national park. Its drainage basin reduces towards its mouth. It drains (with its main tributary, Stock Water) most of the largely heathland forest's "Beaulieu Heath". It then drains smaller Blackwell Common (the south of which was called Blackfield Common after neighbouring Blackfield). Then it drains the similar combined area: Horsemoor Copse, West Common (a meadow) and Chale Wood, below which narrow woods line one or both of the banks, beyond an inner marshy zone.

The wreck of a wooden sailing vessel was discovered in Thorness Bay, Isle of Wight, England in 2010. The site was designated under the Protection of Wrecks Act on 31 July 2013. The wreck is a Protected Wreck managed by Historic England.
