Hursley

IBM Hursley is a research and development laboratory belonging to International Business Machines in the village of Hursley, Hampshire, England. Established in Hursley House, an 18th-century Queen Anne style mansion in 1958, the facility has been instrumental in the development of IBM's software technologies since the 1950s. It is still the home of development for CICS and MQ technology. Among the software developed by IBM Hursley is the Customer Information Control System (CICS), used in ATMs, which was the first Hursley product with a billion dollars in annual revenue.Initially, IBM just used the House and its grounds. In 1963 it purchased 100 acres (405,000 m2) of land surrounding the house and has since erected a large modern office complex employing over 1500 people. The facility is host to the IBM Client Centre, which offers potential clients a secure environment where they can test company software and work with staff experts on best practices, proof of concept, and proof of technology. Hursley House itself, a Grade II* listed building, is still used as an Executive Briefing Centre. The lower ground floor of the house is home to the IBM Hursley Museum, a computing museum that covers the history of IBM Hursley Park, IBM United Kingdom, and IBM Corporation.

The Quarters is a cricket ground located off Hursley Park Road in the grounds of the former Hursley Park Estate at Hursley, Hampshire, England. Set in rural surroundings, the ground is surrounded by open countryside on all sides, with the north and east sides also being bordered by trees and a small woodland. The southern end is bordered by a small stream. The north east corner houses the older pavilion, while the north west corner houses a new pavilion. The ground includes two fields and in turn two bowling squares.

Hocombe Mead is a 8.3-hectare (21-acre) Local Nature Reserve in Eastleigh in Hampshire. It is owned by Eastleigh Borough Council and managed by Eastleigh Borough Council & Friends of Hocombe Mead.The site has two species-rich meadows. The north one, which is grazed by cattle, has a large colony of ringlet butterflies, while the south one is maintained by cutting. There are also woods, with some parts more than 400 years old. There are small areas of bog and heath.It is shown on maps from 1588, in which it was known as Eagle's Copse.

Ratlake Meadows is a 4.2-hectare (10-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest north of Chandler's Ford in Hampshire.These unimproved meadows on London Clay are recorded back to the sixteenth century and are probably much older. They are dominated by sweet vernal grass, heath grass, tufted hairgrass and Yorkshire fog, and have a rich variety of herbs. Invertebrates include the rare bush cricket, long-winged conehead.

Trodds Copse (grid reference SU417224) is a 25.23 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), in central Hampshire, notified in 1989. It comprises ancient semi-natural woodland, unimproved meadows and flushes.

Cranbury Park is a stately home and country estate situated in the parish of Hursley, Winchester, England. It was formerly the home to Sir Isaac Newton and later to the Chamberlayne family, whose descendants continue to own and occupy the house and surrounding park and farmland in the 21st century. The house and park are not generally open to the public, although open days are occasionally held.

Flexford Nature Reserve is a 18-hectare (44-acre) nature reserve in Chandler's Ford in Hampshire. It is managed by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust.This reserve is in two areas separated by the Eastleigh–Romsey railway line. It has wet meadows and ancient woodland trees such as alder and ground flora such as ramsons. Birds include siskins and lesser redpolls.

Ampfield is a village and civil parish in the Borough of Test Valley in Hampshire, England, between Romsey, Eastleigh, and Winchester. It had a population at the 2001 census of 1,474, increasing to 1,583 at the 2011 Census.

Thornden School is a secondary school with academy status in Chandler's Ford, Hampshire. It is an 11-16 (no sixth form), mixed specialist Arts College with Science as the second specialism. There are 1400 pupils on roll and 11 tutor groups of around 30 pupils in each tutor group, to form year groups of around 300 people.
