Etter is an unincorporated community in Ravenna Township, Dakota County, Minnesota, United States, near Hastings and Welch. It is along 200th Street East (County Road 68) near Ravenna Trail (County Road 54). State Highway 316 (MN 316) is nearby. A post office called Etter was established in 1871, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1927. The community was named for Alexander Etter, a storekeeper.

The St. Croix River ( SAYNT KROY; literally "holy cross" in French) is a tributary of the Mississippi River, approximately 169 miles (272 km) long, in the U.S. states of Wisconsin and Minnesota. The lower 125 miles (201 km) of the river form the border between Wisconsin and Minnesota. The river is a National Scenic Riverway under the protection of the National Park Service. A hydroelectric plant at the Saint Croix Falls Dam supplies power to the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area.

Prescott is a city in Pierce County, Wisconsin at the confluence of the St. Croix River and Mississippi River. The population was 4,258 at the 2010 census, making it the second-largest city in the county after River Falls, and the largest entirely within Pierce County. Prescott was home to the mother house of the Franciscan Servants of Jesus. The town was first settled by (and named for) Philander Prescott, who opened a trading post there in 1839.

H. S. Miller Bank is located in Prescott, Wisconsin. In addition to being a bank, the building also served as the city hall and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.Currently, it houses the Prescott Historical Society Museum and the local chamber of commerce.

The Daniel Smith House is located in Prescott, Wisconsin.The original section of this house, built in about 1855, is a wood-frame structure built on a stone foundation. It displays many features found in the Greek Revival style of architecture, including: low-pitch gable ends, fluted pilaster corner boards, boxes cornice with dentils and a plain frieze, and a full-front porch with Doric columns. In about 1870 a one-story clapboarded addition was made to the southwest corner of the house. A water tower, located to the northeast of the house, a gazebo located to the west of the south, and rock walls were built in about 1903. The Daniel Smith house is locally significant due to its association with Prescott, Wisconsin's early settlement and historical development. The owners of the house between its construction in about 1855 and 1889 were instrumental in the establishment and support of many of the city's earliest commercial, civic, social, educational, governmental, and political activities.

The Hastings Star Gazette was an American, English language newspaper in Hastings, Dakota County, Minnesota. The Hastings Gazette started publication in 1857. The Hastings Star began publishing as a competitive newspaper in 1977. It was under the ownership of Mike O'Connor and Arlin Albright (later sold to Forum Communications). The Hastings Star purchased the Hastings Gazette in 1984 and the publication became known as the Hastings Star Gazette. The paper was published weekly on Thursday and circulation of 3,618 in 2019.The Star Gazette was a member of the Minnesota Newspaper Association. In 2014, the newspaper won association awards for General Excellence, Best Use of Photography and Typography and Design.Amid large revenue losses associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, on May 7, 2020, Forum Publications ceased publication of the newspaper.

Locally, KDWA is especially known for its coverage of local news and high school sports for both Hastings and Prescott.

District No. 34 School is a former school building in Denmark Township, Minnesota, United States. It was built around 1852 and remained in active use until 1946. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014 for its local significance in the theme of education. It was nominated for being a representative example of the rural one-room schoolhouses of the mid-19th-century.

Miesville ( MEEZ-vil) is a city in Dakota County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 125 at the 2010 census.U.S. Highway 61 serves as a main route in the community. Minnesota Highways 20, 50, and 316 are nearby. Miesville is home to an amateur baseball team, the Miesville Mudhens, which participate in Town Team Baseball.

The Ramsey Mill was built by Alexander Ramsey and Dr. Thomas Foster in 1856–1857 on the Vermillion River in the town of Hastings in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The river had a head of 19 feet (6 m) and a width of 50 feet (15 m) near the 4 story gristmill. An addition included a cooper shop and storage facility. Although Ramsey sold his interest in 1877, it retained his name. Maximum output was achieved in 1894, at 125 barrels per day. On December 22, 1894, the building burned, possibly due to arson.
