Werdum is a municipality in the district of Wittmund, in Lower Saxony, Germany.

Spiekeroog (German pronunciation: [ˈʃpiːkɐˌʔoːk] ) is one of the East Frisian Islands, off the North Sea coast of Germany. It is situated between Langeoog to its west and Wangerooge to its east. The island belongs to the district of Wittmund, in Lower Saxony in Germany. The only village on the island is also called Spiekeroog. The island is part of the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site by the UNESCO and the Lower Saxon Wadden Sea National Park. Spiekeroog covers an area of 18.25 km2, the shortest distance to the mainland is 5.7 km. The island is, with the exception of electric mini cars and fire and rescue vehicles, free of cars. A daily ferry service from the harbour of Neuharlingersiel connects the island with the German mainland. The island is separated from neighbouring Wangerooge by a gat known as the Harle. The origin of the name "Spiekeroog" is disputed. Today, most of its people tend to believe that it is a translation of "storage island."

Stedesdorf is a municipality in the district of Wittmund, in Lower Saxony, Germany.

The Otzumer Balje is a gat in the North Sea. The gat runs in a north–south direction between the eastern end of the North Sea island of Langeoog and the western end of neighbouring Spiekeroog. About five kilometres below the Otzumer Balje there is a salt dome, 1.5 to 3 kilometres thick and 6,000 metres in diameter - containing Zechstein salts. The shipping channel is marked by navigation aids and has a depth of up to 19 metres. On 5 December 1917 the steamer, Heinrich Horn, built in 1900, sank here. Its wreck is still visible at low tide.

The Harlebucht or Harle Bay was originally a bay approximately 15 kilometers wide that reached about 10 kilometers inland north of Wittmund in today's East Frisia. (A more appropriate translation of bucht here might be Bight; the German word can mean either.) The water encroachments into the hinterland in the Grote Mandrenke (Second Marcellus Flood) in 1362, which reached as far as the Geest near Jever, gave rise to side bays and greatly enlarged the Harlebucht. Around 1550 began a period of building dikes and polders, draining the Harlebucht and turning it into farmland. Piece by piece, fertile farmland was created from what had been marsh and bay, until in 1894 the Elisabethgroden section was completed.

Esens is a municipality in the district of Wittmund, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated near the North Sea coast, approx. 14 km northwest of Wittmund, and 20 km northeast of Aurich. Esens is also the seat of the Samtgemeinde ("collective municipality") Esens.

Harlesiel is a resort town on the East Frisian coast of Germany, at the mouth of the Harle River. It lies in the Wittmund district, about 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) north of Carolinensiel. It is a small town, with a population of 809 in 2009, swelled by some 4800 tourists in season. Harlesiel was founded in 1956, part of the last stages of the draining of the Harlebucht. The inner and outer harbors of the town are divided by the pumping station which keeps the land dry; this building incorporates a lock to allow passage to the sea. Many tourist attractions and facilities were added over the years including campgrounds, a beach, a salt water swimming pool, and a miniature golf course. An airstrip was built in 1973, and a ferry runs to Wangerooge. Harlesiel was also made the terminus of the Jever-Harle railway branch until that line was abandoned in 1989; the former station building now serves as a station for the ferry service.

Esens is a Samtgemeinde ("collective municipality") in the district of Wittmund, in Lower Saxony, Germany. Its seat is in the town Esens. Dunum is a municipality in the district of Wittmund, in Lower Saxony, Germany.

The Harle (in its upper course: Norder Tief) is a river of Lower Saxony, Germany, in the district of Wittmund in East Frisia. Its entire course is within the borough of Wittmund and it discharges near Harlesiel through a Siel, a sluice in the dyke, into the North Sea. Near the village of Willen two headstreams Nordertief and Südertief join forming the Harle. Both tributaries are streams that originate in bogland depressions in the neighbouring borough of Aurich. The Harle runs eastwards past the town of Wittmund and then flows in meanders in a northerly direction. It passes Carolinensiel and discharges through a lock and a scoop wheel into Harlesiel Harbour and from there into the North Sea. The Harle is popular with tourists for rowing and, in the harbours of Carolinensiel and Harlesiel, for boats and ferries. Harlesiel is a ferry port for trips to the island of Wangerooge.

Harle Airfield, German: Flugplatz Harle (ICAO: EDXP), is a small airfield in Wangerland in the district of Friesland in Lower Saxony, Germany, about 700 meters from Harlesiel. However, the airfield has an address of the city of Wittmund, as its only access from Harlesiel is possible, which belongs to the Wittmund district Carolinensiel.

Wittmund is a Landkreis (district) in the northwestern part of Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated in East Frisia, on the North Sea coast. Neighboring districts are (from the east clockwise) Friesland, Leer and Aurich.
