Arrondissement of Wakken

Wakken is a village and deelgemeente in Dentergem municipality, in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The village is located near the confluence of the rivers Lys and Mandel.

Dentergem (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈdɛntərɣɛm] ) is a municipality, located in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The municipality comprises the towns of Dentergem proper, Markegem, Oeselgem and Wakken. On January 1, 2006, Dentergem had a total population of 8,188. The total area is 25.94 km2 which gives a population density of 316 inhabitants per km2.

The Mandel is a 40-kilometre (25 mi) long river in the Belgian province of West Flanders, left tributary of the Leie (Lys). Its source is located in Passendale. It flows through Roeselare and Ingelmunster, and flows into the Leie near Waregem.

Zulte (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈzʏltə] ) is a Belgian municipality located in Flanders and in the Flemish province of East Flanders. The municipality comprises the towns of Machelen, Olsene and Zulte proper. In 2021, Zulte had a total population of 15,843. The total area is 32.52 km2.The town used to have its own beer since 1891 (simply called Zulte) but today they are part of Alken-Maes breweries. The main football club from Zulte merged with KSV Waregem to form a team called SV Zulte Waregem that plays in the Belgian Pro League as of 2006.

Wielsbeke (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈʋilzˌbeːkə]) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The municipality comprises the towns of Ooigem, Sint-Baafs-Vijve and Wielsbeke proper. On January 1, 2018, Wielsbeke had a total population of 9,584. The total area is 21.76 km2 which gives a population density of 440 inhabitants per km2.

Aaigem is a village belonging to the municipality of Erpe-Mere. It is located in the province of East Flanders, Belgium. The village has some 2000 inhabitants. Aaigem was an independent municipality with an area of 7.32 square kilometers till 1976.

The 1957 UCI Road World Championships was the 30th edition of the UCI Road World Championships. It took place in Waregem, Belgium on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 August 1957. Among the amateurs, who had to ride 190.4 kilometres, the title went to 22-year-old Belgian Louis Proost. In the final kilometres he overtook Italian Arnaldo Pambianco, who had been riding alone in the lead for 30 kilometres. Dutchman Schalk Verhoef came third. The race for professional cyclists organized on Sunday, was 12 laps long, totalling 285.6 kilometres. 70 riders took part. Rik Van Steenbergen, in the presence of King Baudouin, became world champion for the third time, now in his country. In the same period, the 1957 UCI Track Cycling World Championships was organized in the Stade Vélodrome de Rocourt near Liège, Belgium.

Waregem (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈʋaːrəɣɛm] ; West Flemish: Woaregem), sometimes known as Waereghem, is a municipality and city located in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The municipality lies in the valley of the river Leie, between Kortrijk and Ghent. It is part of the arrondissement of Kortrijk and comprises the towns of Beveren, Desselgem, Sint-Eloois-Vijve and Waregem proper. On January 1, 2019, Waregem had a total population of 38,260. The total area is 44.34 km² which gives a population density of 863 inhabitants per km².

The Elindus Arena, formerly named the Regenboogstadion, (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈreːɣə(n)boːxˌstaːdijɔn]) is a stadium in Waregem, Belgium. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of S.V. Zulte-Waregem. Regenboogstadion is Dutch for Rainbow Stadium. The stadium was named after the rainbow jersey worn by the cycling road world champions, since it was inaugurated to host the 1957 UCI Road World Championships. From the 2020-21 season however, the stadium name will change to Elindus Arena, after a local sponsor.

Hippodrome Waregem (Dutch: Hippodroom van Waregem), located in Waregem, Belgium, is used for horse racing. It hosts the annual Great Flanders Steeple Chase, a steeplechase event. It has a capacity of 40,000 spectators.

Oostrozebeke (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌoːstˈroːzəbeːkə]; West Flemish: Ôostrôzebeke) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The municipality comprises only the town of Oostrozebeke proper. On January 1, 2018 Oostrozebeke had a total population of 7,849. The total area is 16.62 km² which gives a population density of 472 inhabitants per km².

Aarsele is a village in the Belgian province of West Flanders and a subdivision of the city of Tielt.
