Springville Township, Michigan

Mesick ( MEE-sik) is a village in Wexford County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 397 at the 2020 census. The majority of the village is located within Springville Township with a very small portion extending east into Antioch Township.

Sherman is an unincorporated community in Wexford County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As an unincorporated community, Sherman has no legally defined boundaries or population statistics of its own. The community is located in the northwest portion of the county at the corner of four townships: Antioch, Hanover, Springville, and Wexford. Settled as early as 1862, it was one of the earliest settlements in Wexford County and served as the first county seat from 1869 until 1881. Sherman incorporated as a village in 1887. A series of fires and population loss caused it to be nearly deserted after 1920, and the village disincorporated around 1940.

Briar Hill, at 1,706 ft, is the second-highest point in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, behind nearby Grove Hill at 1,709 feet. It is entirely within the Manistee National Forest. The area was carved out during the last ice age, and retreating glaciers left large deposits of sand, which created Briar Hill and the nearby Caberfae Hills. The region is subject to heavy lake-effect snow from Lake Michigan. No official weather records are maintained on the hill. Fauna in the area includes black bears, coyotes, fisher, marten, mink, white-tailed deer, gray and red foxes, porcupines, river otters and beavers. Access to the area requires bushwhacking as there are no marked trails.

Wexford Township is a civil township of Wexford County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,161 at the 2020 census.

Buckley is a village in Wexford County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 775 at the 2020 census, an increase from 697 at the 2010 census. The village is located within Hanover Township, and lies immediately south of the Grand Traverse County line. The village lies about 6.5 miles (10.5 km) north of Mesick, about 20 miles (32 km) northwest of Cadillac, and about 15 miles (24 km) south of Traverse City.
