Swania (German: Schwansen, Danish: Svans or Svansø, meaning "swan island/peninsula") is a peninsula in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, protruding into the Baltic Sea. It is located between the Eckernförde Bay to the south and the Schlei (English: Sly) inlet to the north. The Danish dialect South Jutlandic in the Angel Danish variant was still spoken in Swania around 1780 (the last time in the villages near the Schlei). Denmark lost Swania following the Second Schleswig War in 1864. Schwansen is the name of the former Amt ("collective municipality") Schwansen, which covered most of the peninsula. The seat of the Amt was in Damp.

(Upper) Bucket Lake (German: (Oberer) Eimersee) is an artificial lake and restored wetland in Rendsburg-Eckernförde, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It has a surface elevation of 14 m, and its surface area is 1.5 ha. The lake belongs to Eckernförde. The creation of the lake is unique: in 1990 a polythene bucket (hence the name) was used to plug a culvert that was draining a shallow former agricultural basin. Since then, the lake has become a habitat with a huge diversity of plants and animals. This was also seen as a successful example of cheap land restoration in Japan, in South Korea and the United States.A short documentary about the lake was shown at the Green Screen film festival, at the Matsalu Nature Film Festival in Estonia and at the Innsbruck Nature Film Festival in Austria in 2016. The documentary from German filmmaker Sven Bohde is available in German, English and Japanese.

Naval Special Forces Command, also called the Kampfschwimmer (KSM; English: Combat Swimmers, lit. 'fight swimmers"') or Verwendungsgruppe 3402 (Deployment Group 3402) are an elite special forces unit of the German Navy, specializing in commando and amphibious warfare operations. They are the only special-purpose force of the German Navy. The Kampfschwimmer were set up when West Germany joined NATO in 1955.

Eckernförde (Danish: Egernførde, sometimes also Egernfjord, Low German: Eckernför, sometimes also Eckernföör) (German pronunciation: [ɛkɐnˈføːɐ̯də] ) is a German town in Schleswig-Holstein, Kreis Rendsburg-Eckernförde, on the coast of the Baltic Sea approximately 30 km north-west of Kiel. The population is about 23,000. Eckernförde is a popular tourist destination in northern Germany.

The Schlei (German: [ʃlaɪ] ; Danish: Slien or Slesvig Fjord), more often referred to in English as the Sly Firth, is a narrow inlet of the Baltic Sea in Schleswig-Holstein in northern Germany. It stretches for approximately 20 miles (32 kilometers) from the Baltic near Kappeln and Arnis to the city of Schleswig. Along the Schlei are many small bays and swamps. It separates the Angeln peninsula to the north from the Schwansen peninsula to the south. The important Viking settlement of Hedeby was located at the head of the firth (fjord), but was later abandoned in favor of the city of Schleswig. A museum has been built on the site, telling the story of the abandoned town.

The Lindaunis Bridge (Danish: Lindånæsbroen) is a bascule bridge crossing the Schlei, an inlet of the Baltic Sea in Schleswig-Holstein, at one of its narrowest parts. The bridge thereby connects the Schwansen and Angeln regions. The steel bridge, that has been declared a monument in 1997, opened to traffic on 17 July 1927. The bridge is special in the sense that it is used both by the hourly local train travelling along the Kiel-Flensburg railway, and by car traffic. The bridge opens at most once every hour for ships.

German submarine U-1210 was a Type VIIC U-boat of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine during World War II. She was ordered on 2 April 1942, and was laid down on 14 July 1943 at F Schichau GmbH, Danzig, as yard number 1580. She was launched on 9 February 1944 and commissioned under the command of Oberleutnant zur See Paul Gabert on 22 April 1944.

Eckernförde station is the station of the town of Eckernförde in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein. It is a through station and the most important en-route station on the Kiel–Flensburg railway. It is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 5 station. To the north of the entrance building there was also a terminal station of the Eckernförde District Railway (German: Eckernförder Kreisbahnen) until 1958.
