Ashfield in Torquay was the childhood home of Agatha Christie. She lived there from her birth until the time of her marriage, and intermittently thereafter. She reluctantly sold it in 1940; in 1962 it was demolished and replaced with a small estate of houses. A blue plaque marks the top left corner of the two-acre property which was Ashfield. Christie loved this house, and even in old age remembered it fondly. In her autobiography, she stated: I remember, I remember the house where I was born. I go back to that always in my mind. Ashfield. How much that means. When I dream I hardly ever dream of Greenway or Winterbrook. It is always Ashfield, the old familiar setting where one’s life first functioned… How well I know every detail there: the frayed red curtain leading to the kitchen, the sunflower brass fender in the hall grate, the Turkey carpet on the stairs, the big shabby schoolroom with its dark blue and gold embossed wallpaper.: p530

Torquay ( tor-KEE) is a seaside town in Devon, England, part of the unitary authority area of Torbay. It lies 18 miles (29 km) south of the county town of Exeter and 28 miles (45 km) east-north-east of Plymouth, on the north of Tor Bay, adjoining the neighbouring town of Paignton on the west of the bay and across from the fishing port of Brixham. There is an "Agatha Christie Mile", a tour with plaques dedicated to her life and work.The poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning lived in the town from 1837 to 1841 on the recommendation of her doctor in an attempt to cure her of a disease which is thought likely to have been tuberculosis. Her former home now forms part of the Regina Hotel in Vaughan Parade.

St Cuthbert Mayne School is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form located in Torquay in the English county of Devon. The school is named after Saint Cuthbert Mayne, a Roman Catholic priest and martyr of the Reformation and Counter-Reformation. It is a voluntary aided Roman Catholic and Church of England school administered by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Plymouth, the Church of England Diocese of Exeter and Torbay Council. The school admits pupils from all over Torbay. It is housed in a unique two-story building with a cantilevered glass facade.

St Michael's Chapel is a small, aisleless, medieval chapel situated on the summit of Chapel Hill, in Torquay, Devon. The structure is considered to date from around the 13th or 14th century. It has been a Grade II listed building since 1952.

In addition to its medieval and Georgian rooms, Torre Abbey is known for the formal gardens on Abbey Park and Meadows, for the third largest art collection in the county of Devon and for regular exhibitions by contemporary artists.

Abbey Park and Meadows is a public park located in Torquay, Devon, which stretches from Torre Abbey to the town's seafront. The park has a number of facilities, including tennis courts, bowling greens, crazy golf and a café. It also hosts an Italian garden with a pond and various flower displays. The meadow is a large open space used for picnics and to host events, and also has a pitch and putt course.
