Blue Mound State Park

Fort Blue Mounds, also known as Blue Mounds Fort, was located in Blue Mounds, Dane County, Wisconsin, United States.

Blue Mounds is a village in Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. As of the 2020 census, the village had a population of 950. The village is adjacent to the Town of Blue Mounds, and is part of the Madison Metropolitan Statistical Area. Blue Mounds was named by French missionaries for the blueish hue of three nearby mounds, this can no longer be seen.

Brigham County Park is a county park located in western Dane County, Wisconsin near the village of Blue Mounds. The park encompasses 232 acres (0.94 km2) and includes 25 campsites. Other amenities in the park include nature and snowshoe trails, a picnic area, a playground, and volleyball and horseshoe courts. A 1.5-mile (2.4 km) bicycle trail connects the campground to the Military Ridge State Trail.The park was named for Ebenezer Brigham, the first permanent European resident of Dane County. Brigham served as a colonel in the Black Hawk War and played a prominent role in Wisconsin's territorial politics. He and his family owned a large amount of land in the area, and the park was formed when the family donated its land to the county. A state historical marker in the park commemorates Brigham and his family's role in forming the park. Nearby Blue Mound State Park was also formed from Brigham's land.The park is the site of East Blue Mound, the highest point in Dane County at 1,489 feet (454 m). The mound is the partner of the taller Blue Mound, which is the highest point in southern Wisconsin, and one of the two mounds that gives the village of Blue Mounds its name.

Cave of the Mounds, a natural limestone cave located near Blue Mounds, Wisconsin, United States, is named for two nearby hills called the Blue Mounds. It is located in the southern slope of the east hill. The cave's beauty comes from its many varieties of mineral formations called speleothems. The Chicago Academy of Sciences considers the Cave of the Mounds to be "the significant cave of the upper Midwest" because of its beauty, and it is promoted as the "jewel box" of major American caves. In 1987, the United States Department of the Interior and the National Park Service designated the cave as a National Natural Landmark.

The attacks at Fort Blue Mounds were two separate incidents which occurred on June 6 and 20, 1832, as part of the Black Hawk War. In the first incident, area residents attributed the killing of a miner to a band of Ho-Chunk warriors, and concluded that more Ho-Chunk planned to join Black Hawk in his war against white settlers. The second incident occurred east of the fort as a Sauk raiding party, estimated by eyewitnesses to be as large as 100 warriors, attacked two militiamen who were investigating noises heard the night before. Two members of the militia stationed at Blue Mounds were killed in the attack, and both their bodies were badly mutilated. The attacks followed an increase in tension after the Hall sisters were released at Fort Blue Mounds on June 1. The sisters had been kidnapped during the Indian Creek massacre in May and were brought to Blue Mounds by a party of Ho-Chunk. Militia leader Henry Dodge became suspicious of the Ho-Chunk and took them prisoner, though they were later released as tension between the Ho-Chunk and white settlers increased. The attacks also lent credence to the belief that more Ho-Chunk were set to join Black Hawk's war against white settlers in Illinois and Michigan Territory. Though other attacks on the fort were expected, they never happened and Fort Blue Mounds served as a supply center for the remaining days of the war.

Little Norway was a living museum of a Norwegian village located in Blue Mounds, Wisconsin. Little Norway consisted of a fully restored farm dating to the mid-19th century. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.Little Norway closed in late 2012.

Tyrol Basin is a ski and snowboard area located in the town of Vermont, Wisconsin, near Mount Horeb, Wisconsin. It has runs at beginner, intermediate, advanced and expert level. Tyrol Basin has 22 runs, and 300–foot vertical, of average size for Midwest ski resorts. The ski area attracts many skiers and snowboarders from nearby Madison, Wisconsin.

Pleasant Valley Conservancy is a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources-dedicated State Natural Area. The area contains a variety of natural communities found in Wisconsin including oak woodland, oak savanna, dry and wet prairies, sedge meadow, shrub-carr, and an open marsh.

Vermont is a town located in Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 871 at the 2020 Census. The unincorporated communities of Elvers and Vermont are located in the town.

Wisconsin's 2nd congressional district is a congressional district of the United States House of Representatives in southern Wisconsin, covering Dane County, Iowa County, Lafayette County, Sauk County and Green County, as well as portions of Richland County and Rock County. The district includes Madison, the state's capital, its suburbs and some of the surrounding areas. Like many districts anchored by a college town, the district is heavily Democratic, and includes the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The district is currently represented by Democrat Mark Pocan, who succeeded current Senator Tammy Baldwin in 2013. Historically, the district has tilted Democratic, due largely to the presence of heavily Democratic Madison. It was a swing district for much of the 1990s and early 2000s. and was held by a Republican from 1991 to 1999. However, since the 2000s round of redistricting, only the Milwaukee-based 4th District is considered more Democratic. John Kerry won the district in 2004 with 62% of the vote. Barack Obama also swept the district in 2008 with 69% of the vote to John McCain's 30%.

The Herman B. and Anne Marie Dahle House is a very intact Classical Revival home built in 1911 in Mount Horeb, Wisconsin for one of the city's prominent citizens.
