WMGL

WWWZ (93.3 MHz) is a commercial FM radio station licensed to Summerville, South Carolina, and serving the Charleston metropolitan area and the South Carolina Lowcountry. It is owned by Cumulus Media and broadcasts a Mainstream Urban radio format that plays R&B and Hip hop music. Its radio studios and offices are on Faber Place Drive in North Charleston. WWWZ carries the Premiere Networks syndicated morning show from New York City, The Breakfast Club. WWWZ has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 50,000 watts. The transmitter tower is on Radio Lane in Charleston near the Cooper River. The station often refers to Charleston by its urban nickname "Chucktown".

MUSC Health Stadium was a soccer-specific stadium located in the Daniel Island area of Charleston, South Carolina that served as the home of the Charleston Battery of the USL Championship. Originally named Blackbaud Stadium, the stadium was opened in 1999. At the time, Blackbaud (along with Columbus Crew Stadium, which opened the same year) was the first modern-era stadium in the United States designed for soccer. The stadium was originally named after Blackbaud, a software company founded by Battery majority owner Tony Bakker. The company's headquarters were adjacent to the stadium. The stadium seated 5,100 people, mostly in two large stands on either side of the field. The stadium is modeled after lower-division English soccer stadiums and featured an on-site pub, called "The Three Lions". The stadium regularly hosted sporting events besides Battery matches, including United States women's national soccer team soccer, and United States national rugby union team matches. The stadium also hosts concerts and other festivals, including several editions of the Southern Ground Music and Food Festival headlined by the Zac Brown Band. In early 2008, the Battery announced a plan to convert much of the stadium to solar energy. The panels could offset up to 12 tons of carbon dioxide per year. On July 30, 2015, the Battery sold naming rights for the stadium to the Medical University of South Carolina through 2019, in an expansion of a partnership between the university's hospital system and the team.In August 2018, the stadium hosted the Major League Lacrosse league championship game. It was the first MLL game held in South Carolina.The Southern Ground Music and Food Festival was hosted in 2011: Zac Brown Band, Clay Cook, Eric Church , Warren Haynes, Blue Dogs (from Charleston), Moon Taxi, My Morning Jacket, Train, and Fitz and the Tantrums. In 2012, the festival had: Gregg Allman Band, The Avett Brothers, Charlie Daniels Band, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, and Michael Franti & Spearhead. In 2013, the festival had Band of Horses, Jason Mraz, Willie Nelson, and Kenny Rogers. In 2016, it had Thomas Rhett, A Thousand Horses, Kacey Musgraves, The Marshall Tucker Band (from Spartanburg), and Bruce Hornsby. Zac Brown Band played at the festival every year from 2011–2016. On May 29, 2019, MUSC Health Stadium was sold to an affiliate of Atlanta-based Holder Properties Inc for $6.475 million. After the 2019 USL Championship season, the stadium will be demolished to make way for commercial redevelopment. The final Battery game at the stadium took place on October 19, 2019 against Bethlehem Steel FC.

USS Sam Rayburn (SSBN-635) was a James Madison-class fleet ballistic missile submarine named for Sam Rayburn (1882–1961), Speaker of the United States House of Representatives (1940–1947, 1949–1953, and 1955–1961). Sam Rayburn was in commission 2 December 1964 to 31 July 1989 carrying the Polaris missile and later the Poseidon missile. Following decommissioning, ex-Sam Rayburn was converted into a moored training ship for use at the Naval Nuclear Prototype Training Unit at Goose Creek, South Carolina.

The Don N. Holt Bridge is a parallel chord, three-span continuous, modified Warren-type truss bridge that carries Interstate 526 (I-526) over the Cooper River between Charleston and North Charleston. It was built in 1992 by the South Carolina Department of Transportation and was designed by HNTB Corporation. The bridge provides a connection between the communities east of the Cooper River, including Mount Pleasant and Daniel Island, to North Charleston and I-26. It is part of a major hurricane evacuation route for the area. The Don Holt Bridge is adjacent to a Kapstone (formerly MeadWestvaco) paper mill. In the mid 1980s, prior to construction of the bridge, owners of the mill filed a lawsuit to stop the bridge because the bridge deck would be at the same height as smokestacks from the mill. In certain weather conditions, the smokestacks produce a fog which could blind drivers and place the mill at risk for lawsuits from drivers. The lawsuit was settled by mandating that a road weather information system (RWIS) be included in the bridge project. The RWIS was designed to detect reduced visibility on the bridge and "to inform drivers of dense fog conditions, reduce traffic speeds, and guide vehicles safely through the fog-prone area." The system uses variable-message signs and illuminating pavement lights (similar to a runway centerline lighting system). As of May 2003, there were no fog-related crashes.The bridge was named for Don N. Holt who served in the South Carolina House of Representatives and was in the insurance business.

Daniel Island, South Carolina is a 4,000-acre (16 km2) island located in the city of Charleston, South Carolina, United States. Named after its former inhabitant, the colonial governor of the Carolinas, Robert Daniell, the island is located in Berkeley County and situated between the Cooper and Wando Rivers. As of July 2012 it is being developed as a master-planned community complete with residential neighborhoods, parks, trails, recreational amenities and a downtown that is home to shops, restaurants, schools, churches and offices for businesses.

The Credit One Charleston Open, formerly known as the Volvo Car Open and the Family Circle Cup, is a WTA Tour-affiliated professional tennis tournament for women, held every year since 1973. It is the oldest professional all-women's tournament in America with a $888,636 purse. The tournament celebrated 50 years in 2022 at the newly renovated Credit One Stadium located in Charleston, South Carolina.The tournament is played on the green clay courts at LTP-Daniel Island (which contains the 10,200-seat Credit One Stadium) on Daniel Island in Charleston, South Carolina, USA. From its inception in 1973 to 2000, the tournament was held at the Sea Pines Plantation on Hilton Head Island with the exception of 1975 and 1976 when it was played on Amelia Island off the coast of Florida. The event moved to Charleston, and specifically Daniel Island, in 2001.From 1973 to 2015, the title sponsor was Family Circle magazine, which had made it the longest-running title sponsor in professional tennis. Volvo Cars took over sponsorship from 2016 to 2021. Credit One Bank became the title sponsor of both the tournament and stadium in July 2021. From 1990 to 2008, the tournament was classified as a WTA Tier I event. In 2009, it was downgraded to a WTA Premier tournament. It celebrated its 40th year in 2012 by naming its main stadium court in honor of Billie Jean King. With the reorganization of the WTA's schedule in 2021, the tournament became a WTA 500 tournament. The current champion is Belinda Bencic, who won the singles tournament in April 2022.

Credit One Stadium is a tennis stadium located within the Family Circle Tennis Center tennis complex on Daniel Island in Charleston, South Carolina. Built in 2001, the Family Circle Tennis Center has 17 courts, including the 10,200-seat main stadium, named the Credit One Stadium after Credit One Bank became the new title sponsor in 2021. Since 2001, it has hosted the WTA Tour's Charleston Open, a WTA 500 tournament, and is the only facility to host an event on the WTA Tour that is played on green Har-Tru clay courts.

Bishop England High School is a diocesan Roman Catholic four-year high school in Charleston, South Carolina, United States. It was located on Calhoun Street in downtown Charleston until it moved to a newly constructed 40-acre campus located on Daniel Island in 1998. With an enrollment of 730, Bishop England is the largest private high school in the state of South Carolina. The school was founded in 1915 and was named after John England, the first bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charleston.

Etiwan Park is a public park on Daniel Island in Charleston, South Carolina. The city spent $100,000 on the first phase of the park's development starting in late 1995. Work continued, and the city spent $325,000 in the fall of 1998.

The James B. Edwards Bridge , also referred to as the Wando River Bridge, is a pair of pre-cast post-tensioned concrete box girder bridges that span the Wando River between Mount Pleasant and Daniel Island on Interstate 526 (I-526) in South Carolina. The bridge was designed by Figg Bridge Engineers and is owned and maintained by the South Carolina Department of Transportation. The bridge is named for James B. Edwards, who was a governor of South Carolina, Secretary of Energy, and long-time president of the Medical University of South Carolina.

The Warren Lasch Conservation Center is a building located at 1250 Supply Street at the former Charleston Navy Yard, in North Charleston, South Carolina. Part of the Clemson Restoration Institute, the center is most notably being used to excavate, examine, and preserve the submarine H. L. Hunley. In recent years, the center has expanded research into various metal and architectural conservation topics. The namesake of the building is Warren F. Lasch, who was chairman of Friends of the Hunley during the Hunley's recovery. The Hunley is housed in a specially-designed tank of fresh water to await conservation.

H. L. Hunley, often referred to as Hunley, CSS H. L. Hunley, or as CSS Hunley, was a submarine of the Confederate States of America that played a small part in the American Civil War. Hunley demonstrated the advantages and the dangers of undersea warfare. She was the first combat submarine to sink a warship (USS Housatonic), although Hunley was not completely submerged and, following her successful attack, was lost along with her crew before she could return to base. The Confederacy lost 21 crewmen in three sinkings of Hunley during her short career. She was named for her inventor, Horace Lawson Hunley, shortly after she was taken into government service under the control of the Confederate States Army at Charleston, South Carolina. Hunley, nearly 40 ft (12 m) long, was built at Mobile, Alabama, and launched in July 1863. She was then shipped by rail on 12 August 1863, to Charleston. Hunley (then referred to as the "fish boat", the "fish torpedo boat", or the "porpoise") sank on 29 August 1863, during a test run, killing five members of her crew. She sank again on 15 October 1863, killing all eight of her second crew, including Horace Lawson Hunley himself, who was aboard at the time, even though he was not a member of the Confederate military. Both times Hunley was raised and returned to service. On 17 February 1864, Hunley attacked and sank the 1,240-ton United States Navy screw sloop-of-war Housatonic, which had been on Union blockade-duty in Charleston's outer harbor. Hunley did not survive the attack and also sank, taking with her all eight members of her third crew, and was lost. Finally located in 1995, Hunley was raised in 2000, and is on display in North Charleston, South Carolina, at the Warren Lasch Conservation Center on the Cooper River. Examination in 2012 of recovered Hunley artifacts suggests that the submarine was as close as 20 ft (6.1 m) to her target, Housatonic, when her deployed torpedo exploded, which caused the submarine's own loss.
