University Park, Maryland

The University Park Historic District is a national historic district located in the town of University Park, Prince George's County, Maryland. The district encompasses 1,149 contributing buildings and 2 contributing sites and is almost exclusively residential and developed as a middle-class, automobile suburb of Washington, D.C. The primary building type is the detached single-family dwelling, with the only non-residential buildings within the district and the town being two churches and the Town Hall, which is located in a former residence. Notable features within the district include the property's original plantation house, known as Bloomfield (Deakins House), and the nearby family cemetery. It was developed over the period 1920 to 1945, and houses are built in a range of popular early-20th-century architectural styles including Tudor and Mediterranean Revival, and varied interpretations of the Craftsman Aesthetic and the Colonial Revival, including interpretations of Dutch, Georgian, and Federal period substyles.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996, with a boundary increase in 2012.

The West Riverdale Historic District is a national historic district located at Riverdale Park, Prince George's County, Maryland, a railroad suburb located northeast of Washington, D.C. The neighborhood was appended to the town of Riverdale Park soon after it was laid out and platted in 1906, and later enlarged in 1937. The district is defined by a modest variety of architectural styles and building types ranging from early-20th century vernacular interpretations of popular styles to diluted, suburbanized examples of revival styles that dominated the second quarter of the 20th century. These styles represent modest examples of Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, Spanish Colonial Revival, Craftsman, and Tudor Revival forms. At the center of the community is the former Eugene Leland Memorial Hospital, now known as the Crescent Cities Health and Rehabilitation Center.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

The Riverdale Park Historic District is a national historic district located at Riverdale Park, Prince George's County, Maryland. The community developed starting in 1889, around the B & O passenger railroad station, as an early railroad suburb northeast of Washington, D.C. Later, 20th century additions expanded the community. One of the more imposing features of the community is the early-19th-century mansion known as Riversdale. In general residential styles range from large 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame dwellings to smaller bungalows, with an eclectic collection of imposing Queen Anne and Colonial Revival houses.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

Old Town is an historic neighborhood of College Park, Maryland. It is roughly bounded by the University of Maryland campus, the B&O Railroad tracks, and US Route 1. The area was plotted out in 1889, and built out over the next several decades, its developers seeking to attract commuters to Baltimore and Washington, DC, and individuals affiliated with the Maryland Agricultural College (as the school was then known). Most of the neighborhood is residential, with American Foursquare and Cape Cod style housing predominating. Closer to the university campus, the developers built garden-style apartment houses and other types of housing to cater to the academic community. The major non-residential structures are a Gothic Revival church, a modern post office and Washington Metro station.The neighborhood was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.Due to the close proximity of Old Town to campus, many fraternity and sorority chapters from University of Maryland own houses in this neighborhood.

Calvert Hills Historic District is a national historic district in College Park, Prince George's County, Maryland. It is roughly bounded on the north by Calvert Road, on the east by the Green Line metrorail corridor (the former Baltimore and Ohio Railroad right-of-way), on the south by the northern boundary of Riverdale Park, and on the west by Baltimore Avenue (US Route 1). It does not include Calvert Park on the southeast corner. Primarily a middle-class single-family residential neighborhood, it also includes some apartment houses as well as the College Park Post Office, a contributing property at 4815 Calvert Road.

The College Heights Estates Historic District encompasses 170 contributing buildings in a mid-20th century automobile-centered residential suburban area of University Park, Maryland, and the neighboring unincorporated area of College Heights Estates in Prince George's County. The earliest portions of the area were platted out in 1938, and the area was mostly built out between then and 1960. The area features winding lanes and dead-end roads, with large houses on generously sized lots. Houses built before the Second World War are predominantly Colonial Revival in character, while post-war construction includes a large number of ranch, split-entry, and Cape style houses, although they are generally larger than other similar houses built in other neighborhoods. Also distinguishing the neighborhood from others are a significant number of architect-designed homes.The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.

University Town Center, formerly New Town Center, is located in Hyattsville, Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. It was a planned urban center designed by Edward Durell Stone and located on a 105-acre (0.42 km2) parcel at the intersection of Belcrest Road and East-West Highway and across from the then new Prince George's Plaza. The initial construction on this development took place in 1963–64; its buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A second phase commenced after the opening of the Hyattsville Crossing station, Washington Metro rapid transit station in 1993.

College Park City Hall is the official seat of government of the City of College Park, Maryland. The City Hall houses the offices of the Mayor and those of the City Council of College Park as well as various city departments, agencies and boards/commissions. The current building, the second city hall since the city's incorporation in 1945, was completed in 2021 and played a key role in the revitalization of College Park's downtown. The premises combine municipal services, University of Maryland offices, retail space and a large public plaza.

Riverdale is a passenger rail station on the MARC Camden Line between Union Station in Washington, DC and Baltimore's Camden Station. The station is part of the Riverdale Park Historic District, which has been part of the National Register of Historic Places since 2002.

Northwestern High School is a public comprehensive and magnet high school located in Hyattsville, Maryland, United States—less than a mile away from the University of Maryland, College Park in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. It is part of the Prince George's County Public Schools system. Established in 1951 at its current location of Adelphi Road, the original building was demolished in the summer of 2000, and a modern facility now stands in its place. Opened in August 2000 with 386,000 sq ft (35,900 m2) of land and a capacity of 2,700 students, Northwestern is the second largest high school in the state of Maryland when measured by total square footage. Northwestern became the school district's second Center for the Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) magnet high school, with the program commencing for the 2013–14 school year. The CVPA program is a highly selective, rigorous four-year specialized program that offers college prep and professional career prep study in the visual arts and performing arts. Admission to the program is through a competitive, two-stage application process. Northwestern's CVPA program operates as a "school-within-a-school" model, and is a replication of the program that has been in existence at Suitland High School since 1986. However, currently Northwestern's program only draws students from a limited attendance area.In December 2009, Northwestern was recognized as a Silver Medal School among "America's Best High Schools" by U.S. News & World Report. In 2005, The Washington Post cited Northwestern as being the second highest ranking high school, among all district high schools, for students' scores on the nationally administered AP tests.Northwestern is accredited by the Commission on Secondary Schools, a division of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The late Jim Henson, the creator of The Muppets, graduated from Northwestern in 1954. On October 5, 2002, during an official building dedication ceremony attended by Jane and Heather Henson (Jim's widow and daughter, respectively), as well as representatives from the Jim Henson Legacy, Northwestern was given permission to rename the arts building at Northwestern, to the Jim Henson School of Arts, Media and Communications.

The Maryland School of Public Policy is one of 14 schools at the University of Maryland, College Park. The school is located inside the Capital Beltway and ranks 16th nationally for schools of public policy according to U.S. News & World Report (2012).

Memorial Chapel is a non-denominational building on the campus of the University of Maryland, College Park, constructed to honor those associated with the university who had lost their lives serving in the United States Armed Forces. The building, designed by Henry Powell Hopkins, actually is made up of three chapels: the Main Chapel, the West Chapel, and the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament. A Vietnam Veterans Memorial was constructed on the Chapel grounds in 1988. The steeple of the chapel is the highest point on campus.
