The Mihran Mesrobian House is a historic building located in Chevy Chase, Montgomery County, Maryland, United States. The house was designed by well-regarded Washington, D.C.-area architect Mihran Mesrobian. It is the only residence that he designed for himself and his wife, Zabelle. Mesrobian was better known for his Beaux-Arts designs in the 1920s and Art Deco designs in the 1930s. He chose the Art Moderne style for his house, which was completed in 1941. It stands out among the more traditional revival styles in the neighborhood. Earlier designs for the house show "a much more radical, modernistic design," but he made concessions to the "Chevy Chase Land Company's more conservative design covenants." The two-story frame and brick veneer structure has a full basement. It features asymmetrical massing, whitewashed brick that resembles concrete, glass block panels, a sun porch on the second floor, and a low hip roof. The cinderblock and brick perimeter wall with classical cast-stone decorative elements and the gate were also designed by Mesrobian and completed in 1945. Mesrobian lived in the house until his death in 1975. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2017.

Chevy Chase Elementary School is an elementary school containing grades 3–5 in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Founded in 1917, the school today occupies a much-renovated and -expanded 1930 building that has been designated as an Historic Site by the Maryland Historical Trust. The school is also said to have had the first school library in the county, established in 1939.

It has historic associations with a 1388 chevauchée, a French word describing a border raid, fought by Lord Percy of England and Earl Douglas of Scotland over hunting grounds, or a "chace", in the Cheviot Hills of Northumberland and Otterburn. The battle was memorialized in "The Ballad of Chevy Chase".

Barnaby Woods is a neighborhood in the Northwest quadrant of Washington, D.C., wedged between Rock Creek Park and Montgomery County, Maryland. It is bounded on the north by Aberfoyle Place, on the west by Western Avenue, on the south by Tennyson Street, and on the east by Oregon Avenue. Barnaby Woods is entirely residential, with no commercial zoning whatsoever, and the housing consists primarily of 1930s colonial homes on large parcels of land although on Unicorn Lane NW there are only townhouses. Barnaby Woods is in the 2nd Police district and is within Police Service Area (PSA) 201. Barnaby Woods residents are within the sending districts of Lafayette Elementary School, Deal Middle School and Jackson-Reed High School.

Francis Griffith Newlands Memorial Fountain is a historic fountain located at Chevy Chase Circle, on the border between the Chevy Chase neighborhood, Northwest, Washington, D.C., and the community of Chevy Chase, Maryland. The fountain was designed by Edward W. Donn, Jr. in 1933 and erected in 1938. Named for Francis G. Newlands, the project was funded by Newlands' widow. It is controlled and operated by the National Park Service as part of nearby Rock Creek Park.

The Columbia Country Club, located in Chevy Chase, Maryland, is the successor of the Columbia Golf Club, which was organized on September 29, 1898 by nine men. Originally there were twenty members. The golf course, which opened in 1911, was designed by Herbert Barker. The first location of the Club was on the east side of Brightwood Avenue, afterwards known as Georgia Avenue, in the neighborhood of Schuetzen Park. Through its history, the club has counted among its members two Five Star Generals, Omar Bradley and Hap Arnold, along with countless politicians (most notably Barack Obama), journalists, CEOs and lobbyists.

The 1921 U.S. Open was the 25th U.S. Open, held July 21–22 at Columbia Country Club in Chevy Chase, Maryland, a suburb northwest of Washington, D.C. Jim Barnes won his only U.S. Open, nine strokes ahead of runners-up Walter Hagen and Fred McLeod, both former champions. It was the third of Barnes' four major championships. Barnes shot an opening round 69 on Thursday morning and led wire-to-wire; he led McLeod by four after the second round, and by seven through 54 holes. President Warren G. Harding was in attendance for the final round on Friday afternoon and presented the championship cup and medal to Barnes. Barnes' play was described by Evening Star sports reporter Walter R. McCallum as "a remarkable brand of golf by playing with the most implicit confidence and coolness".Chick Evans, the 1916 champion, edged 19-year-old Bobby Jones by a single stroke for low amateur, finishing alone in fourth place. Two-time champion Alex Smith played in his last major and finished in a tie for fifth place.

Connecticut Avenue is a major thoroughfare in the Northwest quadrant of Washington, D.C., and suburban Montgomery County, Maryland. It is one of the diagonal avenues radiating from the White House, and the segment south of Florida Avenue was one of the original streets in Pierre (Peter) Charles L'Enfant's plan for Washington. A five-mile segment north of Rock Creek was built in the 1890s by a real-estate developer.
