Narrows Park is an unincorporated community in Allegany County, Maryland, United States. Braddock Run flows into Wills Creek near Narrows Park.

Allegany High School is a public high school in the Allegany County, Maryland, city of Cumberland, United States. Allegany High is part of Allegany County Public Schools. Allegany High School was built as Allegany County High School in 1887, hence it is often referred to as 'Alco'. As of the 2014–2015 school year, the school had an enrollment of 671 students and 43.3 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 15.5:1. There were 252 students (37.6% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 30 (4.5% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch. Students were 93% white, 5% African-American and 2% Asian.

Bishop Walsh School is a K-12 Catholic school located in Cumberland, Maryland, and under the jurisdiction of the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Approximately 350 students attend. The school also hosts a pre-K program and operates the St. Michael's pre-K program in Frostburg.

The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad (WMSR) is a heritage railroad based in Cumberland, Maryland, that operates passenger excursion trains and occasional freight trains using both steam and diesel locomotives over ex-Western Maryland Railway (WM) tracks between Cumberland and Frostburg. The railroad offers coach and first class service, murder mystery excursions, and special seasonal trips.

Haystack Mountain is a mountain ridge in the Ridge and Valley region of the Appalachian Mountains, located in western Maryland just west of the city of Cumberland. The mountain forms the southern wall of the Cumberland Narrows.

The Cumberland Narrows (or simply The Narrows) is a water gap in western Maryland in the United States, just west of Cumberland. Wills Creek cuts through the central ridge of the Wills Mountain Anticline at a low elevation here between Wills Mountain to the north and Haystack Mountain to the south. Cliffs and talus of the two mountains' Tuscarora quartzite caprock are prominent within the Narrows. A prominent rocky outcropping at the south end of Wills Mountain in the Cumberland Narrows is known as Lover's Leap. The geological features of the Narrows provide Cumberland a western backdrop of the two mountains with a narrow gap between them.

Bowling Green is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Allegany County, Maryland, United States. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 1,077.It is located along U.S. Route 220 (McMullen Highway), directly southwest of the city of Cumberland and includes the former community of Roberts. The CDP of Potomac Park borders Bowling Green to the south, the Potomac River is to the east and Haystack Mountain is to the west. For many years, the community was mostly farmland but was later divided into building lots by the Buchanan, Roberts and Long families. CSX Transportation railroad tracks skirt the community along the river; in earlier years, a predecessor maintained the Roberts train station, which has since been closed. The Upper Potomac Industrial Park is located in the northern part of the community, close to Cumberland.

Wills Mountain State Park is an undeveloped public recreation area on Wills Mountain overlooking the Cumberland Narrows in Allegany County, Maryland. The state park occupies 357 acres (144 ha) on the northwest edge of the City of Cumberland. It is under the control of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

Carpendale is a town in Mineral County, West Virginia, United States, and part of the Cumberland, MD-WV Metropolitan Statistical Area'. The population was 861 at the 2020 census. Carpendale was incorporated on January 2, 1990, by the Circuit Court. The town is a combination of three subdivisions of which its name reflects: Carpenters Addition, Millerdale I, and Millerdale II. There are no stores in Carpendale and there is only one road in and out of the town.

Knobmount is an unincorporated community in Mineral County, West Virginia, United States.

Brush Tunnel is a 914-foot (279 m) railroad tunnel located about 1 mile (1.6 km) west of Corriganville, Maryland. It was built in 1911 by the Western Maryland Railway, and is currently used by the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad, a tourist railroad running between Frostburg and Cumberland, Maryland, as well as the Great Allegheny Passage formerly known as the Allegheny Highlands Trail of Maryland rail trail). Some had expressed concern regarding the dual use of the tunnel, but time has shown that the scenic railroad and the bicycle trail can peacefully co-exist. There is a video camera showing east and westerly views mounted on the tunnel. See the view at https://www.mountainmdtrails.org/gapwebcam The Allegheny Highlands Trail of Maryland is currently complete from Cumberland to near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, using mostly abandoned rail right-of-way. The portion of the trail from Cumberland to near Frostburg trail is adjacent to the active tourist line, including the tunnel. As the tunnel was bored for two tracks, and the scenic railroad uses only one, there is sufficient room for the bicycle trail alongside in the tunnel, which is now lighted. (However, trail users are cautioned not to be in the tunnel when a train is in or approaching the tunnel.)
