Woolwich, Maine

The Sagadahoc Bridge is a four-lane concrete segmental box girder bridge between the City of Bath and the town of Woolwich, Maine, carrying U.S. Route 1 (US 1) over the Kennebec River. It was completed in 2000 to replace the two-lane road portion of the adjoining 1927 Carlton Bridge, which remains in use as a rail bridge. It is 2,972-foot-long (906 m) and features the longest precast concrete segmental span in North America at 420 feet (130 m). It is also notable for being the first design/build project undertaken by the Maine Department of Transportation. The bridge cost $46.6 million, and is the last downstream road crossing of the Kennebec.

The Carlton Bridge is a railroad vertical-lift bridge which carries one rail line over the Kennebec River between Bath and Woolwich, Maine. It was completed in 1927. Until August 1, 2000, it also carried two lanes of U.S. Route 1 (US 1) on its upper deck, after which the highway was transferred to the adjoining Sagadahoc Bridge and the road connection severed at the west end. The east end is gated, and is accessible only by authorized vehicles. The majority of the road deck remains but may be removed in the future. It is the last downstream fixed crossing of the Kennebec. With the removal of US 1 from the bridge, its primary traffic is freight trains operated by the Maine Central and Quebec Railway that are bound for manufacturers in Thomaston, of which several pass over the bridge per week. It has also carried passenger excursion trains to Rockland, although the Maine Department of Transportation leased the line to another company that meant the end of passenger service after 2015.

The Patten Free Library is a public library in Bath, Maine, United States. It also serves the communities of Arrowsic, Georgetown, West Bath, and Woolwich. The Patten Library Association was founded in 1847. In 1887, Galen C. Moses donated $10,000 to fund a building for the library. The original building was designed by George Edward Harding, and was finished in 1890. New wings were built in 1961 and 1998.

The Bath Historic District encompasses the historic 19th-century business district of Bath, Maine, along with an adjacent period neighborhood. The city has a long history as one of the nation's preeminent shipbuilding centers. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

The U.S. Customhouse and Post Office is a historic commercial building at 1 Front Street in downtown Bath, Maine. Built by the federal government in 1858, it is a fine example of Italianate architecture designed by Ammi B. Young, housing the local post office and customs facilities until 1970. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970. It now houses businesses.

The Winter Street Church, originally known as the Winter Street Congregational Church, is an historic former Congregational church at 880 Washington Street, corner of Winter Street in Bath, Sagadahoc County, Maine. Built in 1843-44, it is a fine early example of Gothic Revival architecture, designed and built by a local master builder. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 27, 1971. The building was saved from destruction by Sagadahoc Preservation Inc. in 1971, and is now called the Winter Street Center.

Bath Iron Works (BIW) is a major United States shipyard located on the Kennebec River in Bath, Maine, founded in 1884 as Bath Iron Works, Limited. Since 1995, Bath Iron Works has been a subsidiary of General Dynamics, one of the world's largest defense companies. BIW has built private, commercial, and military vessels, most of which have been ordered by the United States Navy.

The William Donnell Crooker House is an historic house at 71 South Street in Bath, Maine, United States. Built in 1850 by the prominent local builder and designer Isaac D. Cole, it is a distinctive example of late Greek Revival architecture. The Crooker family was involved with Bath's shipbuilding industry. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in July 1979.

Bath is a city in Sagadahoc County, Maine, United States. Bath is included in the Brunswick micropolitan. The population was 8,766 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Sagadahoc County, which includes one city and 10 towns. The city is popular with tourists, many drawn by its 19th-century architecture. It is home to the Bath Iron Works and Heritage Days Festival, held annually on the Fourth of July weekend. It is commonly known as "The City of Ships" because of all the sailing ships that were built in the Bath shipyards. Bath is part of the Portland-South Portland-Biddeford metropolitan statistical area.

The Captain Merritt House is a historic house at 619 High Street in Bath, Maine. Built in 1851 for a ship's captain, its lavish Italianate styling epitomizes the wealth that came to the city in the mid-19th century. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

The Trufant Historic District encompasses a concentration of 19th-century middle-class residential housing on the south side of Bath, Maine. This area was most heavily developed during Bath's heyday as a major shipbuilding center, and includes numerous examples of Greek Revival and Italianate styling. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

The John E.L. Huse Memorial School is a historic former school building at 39 Andrews Street in Bath, Maine. Built in 1942, it is one of a small number of schools built in Maine with federal funding provided under the World War II-era Community Facilities Act. It was closed in 2006, and has been converted to residential use. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.
