Hancock County–Bar Harbor Airport (IATA: BHB, ICAO: KBHB, FAA LID: BHB) is a county-owned, public-use airport located in Trenton, Maine, eight nautical miles (9 mi, 15 km) northwest of the central business district of Bar Harbor, a city in Hancock County, Maine, United States. It serves the residents of Hancock County with commercial and charter aviation services. During the summer months, the airport becomes one of Maine's busiest, with significant private jet operations bringing visitors to the numerous summer colonies in the county, which includes Mount Desert Island. Scheduled passenger airline service is subsidized by the Essential Air Service program.As per Federal Aviation Administration records, the airport had 10,562 passenger boardings (enplanements) in calendar year 2008, 10,100 enplanements in 2009, and 11,109 in 2010. It is included in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2017–2021, in which it is categorized as a non-primary commercial service facility.

The Jordan River is a 5-mile-long (8 km) tidal river in Hancock County, Maine, flowing to Mount Desert Narrows, the waterway that separates Mount Desert Island from the mainland. The Jordan River forms the boundary between the towns of Lamoine and Trenton.

Garland Farm is a historic house and garden property at 475 Bay View Drive in Bar Harbor, Maine. The property, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005, is significant as the last home of the noted landscape designer Beatrix Farrand, and is now owned by the Beatrix Farrand Society. The property is open to the public, and houses a research library of Farrand materials, as well as gardens established by Farrand in the later years of her life.

The First Baptist Church is a historic church building at 362 Lamoine Beach Road in East Lamoine, Maine. The wood frame Greek Revival building was built in 1832 by a noted local builder/architect, and was altered in 1879 to include a Victorian tower and porches. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

The Higgins Barn is a historic English barn at 256 Oak Hill Road in Indian Point, a rural area in western Bar Harbor, Maine. It is estimated to have been built c. 1810 by Ichabod Higgins, and is one of the oldest structures in the area, dating to the first settlement period of Indian Point. The barn was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

Lamoine is a town in Hancock County, Maine, United States. The town was named after an early resident, Andre LeMoyne. The spelling shifted slightly over the years. "Le moine" is French for "the monk." The population was 1,720 at the 2020 census.

Lamoine State Park is a public recreation area occupying 55 acres (22 ha) on the shore of Frenchman's Bay in the town of Lamoine, Maine. The state park offers broad views of the mountains on Mount Desert Island, the narrow Eastern Bay portion of Frenchman Bay, and Lamoine's working waterfront. It is managed by the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry.

The Union River is a 21.9-mile-long (35.2 km) river that runs through Ellsworth, the county seat of Hancock County in eastern Maine. In the colonial era, it was known as the Mount Desert River.The river forms at the north end of Graham Lake at the confluence of the river's East and West branches (44°43′48″N 68°23′04″W), on the border of the towns of Mariaville and Waltham. It runs south 13 miles (21 km) through Graham Lake to the dam at the lake's outlet, then continues south through Ellsworth, flowing through Leonard Lake and passing over its outlet dam just above the downtown. The Leonard Lake dam, also known as The Ellsworth Dam, built in 1907, spans the Union River and forms Lake Leonard. It houses a powerhouse with four generating units that combined produce 29,907 megawatt hours per year, enough to power about 3,000 households. At downtown Ellsworth, the river reaches tidewater, and flows south as an estuary for 5 miles (8 km) to its mouth at Union River Bay, on the border of Surry and Ellsworth, and thence into Blue Hill Bay.

The MDI Biological Laboratory (MDIBL), formerly known as Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory is an independent non-profit biomedical research institution founded in 1898 and located in Salisbury Cove, Maine, on Mount Desert Island. Its mission is to improve human health and well- being through basic research, education, and development ventures that transform discoveries into cures. In 2013, the Laboratory was designated a Center for Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) by the National Institutes of Health, which awarded the Laboratory a grant of $13 million over five years to expand the institution’s research program. The MDI Biological Laboratory has a full-time staff of 63, and will offer 23 research training courses in 2014.

WBFE (99.1 FM) is an American radio station broadcasting a country music format simulcasting WBFB. Licensed to Bar Harbor, Maine, United States, the station serves the Down East Maine area. The station is owned by Blueberry Broadcasting. Under proper weather conditions, the station's signal can reach both southwestern New Brunswick and southwestern Nova Scotia, Canada.

WRNM (91.7 FM) is a radio station licensed to Ellsworth, Maine, United States. The station is owned by Light of Life Ministries. In March 2012 the station signed on simulcasting Augusta based WMDR-FM. In June 2019, they completed a station upgrade, increasing height, power, and station class at the same location. This upgrade changed their antenna from omnidirectional to a directional antenna that minimizes power towards WMEB-FM.

Shore Acres is a historic former summer hotel at 791 Lamoine Beach Road in Lamoine, Maine. With a possible construction history dating to about 1800, it is one of the coastal community's oldest buildings, and is the only surviving 19th-century hostelry in the town. Extensively altered in 1887 and operated as an inn between 1887 and 1942 as the Des Isles Inn, it is now a summer rental property, located within walking distance of Lamoine Beach State Park. The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.
