Sedgwick, Maine

The First Baptist Church is a historic church building on High Street, off Maine State Route 172 in Sedgwick, Maine. It was designed in Greek Revival style by architect Benjamin S. Deane, based on published drawings by Asher Benjamin, and built in 1837 for a congregation founded in 1805. It is one of coastal Maine's finest Greek Revival churches, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

The Benjamin River is a tidal river in Hancock County, Maine. From its source (44°19′01″N 68°36′11″W), the river runs about 3 miles southwest to Eggemoggin Reach. The river forms part of the border between Sedgwick and Brooklin.

Sargentville is an unincorporated village in the town of Sedgwick, Hancock County, Maine, United States. The community is located along Maine State Route 175, 21 miles (34 km) southwest of Ellsworth. Sargentville had a post office from February 10, 1855, until April 23, 2005; it still has its own ZIP code, 04673.

The E. B. White House is a historic house on 470 Bay Road in Brooklin, Maine, United States. This well-preserved 18th-century farmhouse was home for many years to author E. B. White (1899–1985), and is where he wrote a number of his important works. The farm was the inspiration for one of his best-known works, Charlotte's Web. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

The Deer Isle Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning Eggemoggin Reach in the state of Maine. The bridge is the only vehicular connection from the Maine mainland to Little Deer Isle, one of the segments that make up the island. The span was completed in March 1939 with a main span of 1,088 feet (332 m). The bridge was designed by Holton Duncan Robinson and David Bernard Steinman. It encountered wind stability problems that were similar to those of the Whitestone Bridge and the original Tacoma Narrows Bridge, which collapsed shortly after it opened. The problems led to modifications which included numerous cable stays connecting cables to the tower and tower to the deck. The span today carries two narrow lanes of State Route 15. A re-decking project was completed in May 2008. Repainting started in mid-2010 has been completed.

Little Deer Isle is an island in Penobscot Bay, lying just north of Deer Isle, Maine, United States. Although Little Deer Isle and Deer Isle are part of the same town, which is also named Deer Isle, they are separate islands. Little Deer Isle is served by Maine State Route 15 via the Deer Isle Bridge. The northern end of the island is called Eggemoggin, and there is a small island with a lighthouse on it at the tip called Pumpkin Island. Little Deer is approximately four miles (6.4 km) long and connects to Deer Isle by way of a causeway. There are about 250 year-round residents in the Little Deer zip code, but there may be more summer residents. There is abundant wildlife on the island including deer, fox, squirrels, wild turkeys, ospreys, and bald eagles.

Topside is a historic summer estate in Brooksville, Maine. Designed by Tennessee architect William Crutchfield and built in 1918, this unusual log structure more closely resembles vacation houses found in the mountain areas of the southern United States than it those found in Maine. It is located on the north shore of Walker Pond, off Maine State Route 176. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

Parker House is an historic house at 185 South Street in Blue Hill, Maine. Built c. 1816 and substantially updated in the Colonial Revival style in 1900 to a design by George Albert Clough, the house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004 for its architectural significance.

"Barncastle", also known as Kline Cottage, is a historic house, now an inn and restaurant, at 125 South Street in Blue Hill, Maine, United States. It is one of the earliest and largest summer cottages in Blue Hill, and remains one of its most visible and idiosyncratic. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and originally called "Ideal Lodge" after the Boston Ideal Opera Company founded by its builder, Effie Hinckley Ober, the house was finished in 1884 to a design by George Asa Clough, Blue Hill native and noted Boston architect, Effie's childhood friend. Entirely engulfing a smaller Cape Cod-style house owned by Effie's mother Mary Peters Hinckley Ober Atherton, a descendant of early Blue Hill settlers, Clough's design derived from notable buildings of his more famous contemporaries: the massing of the main block was based on a cottage by W.R. Emerson, and the landmark arch-and-turret link between kitchen wing and carriage barn strongly recalls familiar works by McKim, Mead and White at Narragansett Pier and Mamaroneck. The building has some idiosyncratic elements, including its central staircase, which rises in stages to an area featuring an interior window and balcony, and a modest bellcast-topped turret that rises from its main facade.Now housing an inn and restaurant, Barncastle was listed on the National Register in 1980.

The Jonathan Fisher House is a historic house museum at 44 Mines Road in Blue Hill, Maine. The house was built in 1814 by Reverend Jonathan Fisher, the first settled minister of Blue Hill, and is now a museum dedicated to his legacy. Fisher (1768-1847) kept a journal of his life in rural Maine, and published other works, including Scriptural Animals, a work illustrated with woodcuts he created. The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1969 (as Jonathan Fisher Memorial); it is open seasonally between July and October.

Liberty School was a private secondary school in Blue Hill, Maine, United States, that operated for nearly ten years. The school had an open campus, and students were largely in control of their education. Many students were actively involved in the school’s democratic governance. In May 2007 the school community elected a new board of trustees to increase student enrollment and improve the school finances, but it was unsuccessful.
