Herrington Lake is a 2,335-acre (9 km2) artificial lake located in Mercer, Garrard and Boyle counties in Kentucky, United States. The lake was created by Kentucky Utilities' damming of the Dix River, a tributary of the Kentucky River, in 1925 to generate hydroelectric power. With a maximum depth of 249 feet (76 m), Herrington Lake is the deepest lake in Kentucky. A short distance below the dam, the Dix River enters the Kentucky River at High Bridge, Kentucky. Herrington Lake contains many species of fish, including bluegill, catfish, crappie, hybrid striped bass, largemouth bass, spotted bass, and white bass.Dix Dam, the dam that made the lake, was the largest earth-filled dam in the world at the time, and considered to be a major engineering feat. Kentucky Utilities' main dispatch and communication center is located on the site.

Pleasant Hill, Kentucky, USA, is the site of a Shaker religious community that was active from 1805 to 1910. Following a preservationist effort that began in 1961, the site, now a National Historic Landmark, has become a popular tourist destination. The High Bridge is a railroad bridge crossing the Kentucky River Palisades, that rises approximately 275 feet from the river below and connects Jessamine and Mercer counties in Kentucky. Formally dedicated in 1879, it is the first cantilever bridge constructed in the United States. It has a three-span continuous under-deck truss used by Norfolk Southern Railway to carry trains between Lexington and Danville. It has been designated as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark.

The Beaumont Inn in Harrodsburg, Kentucky is a historic inn and restaurant established around 1845. It was the campus of several women's colleges until it was purchased by Annie Bell Goddard and converted into an inn in 1918.

The Dix River is a 79.3-mile-long (127.6 km) tributary of the Kentucky River in central Kentucky in the United States. It begins in western Rockcastle County, about 5 miles (8 km) west of Mount Vernon. It flows generally northwest, in a tight meandering course, passing north of Stanford and east of Danville. Northeast of Danville it is impounded by the Dix Dam to form the Herrington Lake reservoir. The river flows about 2 miles (3 km) before joining the Kentucky River near High Bridge, about 20 miles (32 km) southwest of Lexington, in the region of the Kentucky River Palisades. At Danville the river has a mean annual discharge of 480 cubic feet per second. The watershed of the river is largely agricultural land, with undulating hills over a bed of limestone. The river is a popular destination for fly fishing, in particular for varieties of bass. Occasionally, recreational kayakers and canoeists can be found on same-day trips. Water levels are Class I+ with possible mild class II.

Cardwellton, at 103 E. Broadway in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, is a historic house which was begun in about 1785. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.The "nucleus of the house" is a log cabin built around 1785. The main block of the house is believed to have been built around 1820. Its Greek Revival portico was added between 1831 and 1837. It includes elements of Greek Revival and Federal architecture.

Beaumont Avenue Residential District is a 5.7 acres (2.3 ha) historic district in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.It includes properties along Beaumont Avenue from number 338 to number 538. It included 14 contributing buildings and two non-contributing buildings, all being residences. The oldest house is the Magoffin-Gaither House, at 464 Beaumont Avenue, built in 1850.
