The Kan-O-Tex Service Station in Galena, Kansas, United States is a Kan-O-Tex filling station that originally served U.S. Route 66 motorists in 1934. Currently, it is a souvenir shop, snack bar, and tourist attraction.

The Edgar Backus Schermerhorn House is a historic house located at 803 E. 5th St. in Galena, Kansas. The house was built circa 1895 for Edgar Backus Schermerhorn, a wealthy businessman who owned many of the area's lead and zinc mines. Architects Anderson & Strong designed the home in the Queen Anne style. The house's design features a porch along the entire front side, a hipped roof with cross gables, and projecting bays and gables. The home's interior features lead glass windows and imported English woodwork using six different types of wood. Schermerhorn lived in the house until his death in 1923, after which his sister, Minnie K. Lennon, inherited the property. Lennon, who had previously lived on a farm, continued to raise farm animals at the house, keeping a cow in the yard and chickens in the library. Lennon occupied the house until her 1939 death.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 21, 1989.

Livingston's Hideout was most likely the only permanent Confederate military camp inside Kansas during the Civil War. It was in the very corner of southeast Kansas, in the very corner of Cherokee County, Kansas. It was about 2 miles (3.2 km) north of the border with Indian Territory and it was less than 100 feet (30 m) west of the border with Missouri. It was 5 miles (8.0 km) west of Baxter Springs, where a series of Union military posts existed from 1862 to 1863. Thomas R. Livingston became a leader of a group of Confederate guerrillas in the area, becoming first a captain and then a major. He needed locations to hide himself and his guerrillas from pursuing Union troops and this hideout suited the guerrillas well. The guerrillas sought to spy on Union forces and raiding units he found small enough to defeat.No one knows when Livingston found his hideout, but he possibly began using it in spring 1862. No Union troops knew of its existence during the Civil War. The campsite was in a heavily wooded area. A road runs just west of the campsite and is about 100 feet (30 m) above it. The area of the campsite cannot be seen from the road, as it is in the woods and the area beyond the road drops off sharply before the camp begins. The site is flat and somewhat oval shaped. It is 100 feet (30 m) wide and 200 feet (61 m) long. A creek is about 50 feet (15 m) below the campsite and a hill to the east, inside Missouri, is on the east side of the creek, about 50 feet (15 m) above the campsite. The creek runs through a long valley. This camp would have been almost in plain sight, yet invisible.The use of Livingston's hideout proved a great frustration for the area's Union troops. Many times the troops chased the guerrillas, only to have them scatter and seemingly vanish. The hideout was used at least July 1863, when Livingston was killed in a fight with Union troops in Stockton, Missouri. After its use ceased, it was not rediscovered until after the War. Eventually, in the 1980s someone decided to build a house there and Betty Kyrias, of the Baxter Springs Historical Society, discovered the site yet again.

Turkey Creek is a stream in Jasper and Newton counties of southwest Missouri and Cherokee county of southeastern Kansas in the United States. It is a tributary of the Spring River. The stream headwaters arise in Newton County at 37°01′03″N 94°23′03″W in Newton County at an elevation of approximately 1170 feet. The stream flows to the north into Jasper County and passes under I-44 southeast of Duenweg. It the turns to the northwest and flows past through the north side of Joplin passing under U.S. Route 71 and Missouri Route 43. It continues to the west-northwest past the community of Belleville and into southeastern Kansas. Its confluence with the Spring River is one-half mile west of the Missouri-Kansas state line at 37°07′47″N 94°37′36″W at an elevation of 814 feet.Turkey Creek was named for the wild turkeys along its course.

KIXQ (102.5 FM, "KIX 102.5") is a country music formatted radio station licensed in Joplin, Missouri, and is owned by the Zimmer Radio It is the third radio station in the four-state area to multicast in HD Radio. KIXQ is simulcast on HD-1. KZRG is simulcasted on HD-2. KIXQ was part of the family-owned Zimmer Radio Group. The stations were sold in July 2007 to James Zimmer and he created a new company called Zimmer Radio, Inc. In the spring of 1981 under the ownership of Pat Demaree, 102.5 was a Top 40 (CHR) format under the moniker Z-103 and was rebranded "The Z 102.5" around 1990 under the helm of Al Zar and Gary Bandy that lasted a year. Following that time, the station went through a number of format changes including adult contemporary and satellite-fed country. Chuck Dunaway of Big Mac Broadcasting purchased the station, changed its call letters to KJKT and rebranded it as Country Kat 102.5. Mr. Dunaway then purchased KSYN 92.5 FM and rebranded the station, "Kissin' 92.5." During this time, KIXQ was on air at 93.9 FM (known as KIX 94) playing more traditional country in the era when Garth Brooks had exploded on the scene. The owners of KIX 94 purchased the 97.9 FM frequency which, at the time, was a Christian station and Ralph Cherry changed 97.9's format to Big Dog New Country to compete against Country Kat. Mr. Dunaway then bought 93.9 and 97.9. This left them with two competing country music format stations. The decision was made to combine the two stations into one with the KIXQ call letters and "KIX" slogan at the 102.5 FM frequency. For a brief period, the same programming was simulcast on both stations and they were referred to as "KAT, and KIX 102.5." Once the transition was complete, 102.5 FM officially became KIX 102.5, 93.9 FM flipped to an Adult Contemporary station known as Magic 93.9 with the call letters KJMK and 97.9 flipped to Classic Rock Big Dog 97.9. Mr. Dunaway sold the stations to the Zimmer Radio Group.

Cities in KSYN's primary coverage area include Joplin, Neosho, Monett, and Nevada, Missouri; Pittsburg, Parsons, Fort Scott, and Chanute, Kansas; Miami and Vinta, Oklahoma; and Bella Vista, Rogers, and Bentonville, Arkansas.

Belleville is an unincorporated community in Jasper County, Missouri, United States.

Williams' Store is a historic store located along Old U.S. Route 66 in Riverton, Kansas. Leo Williams built the store in 1925, the year before Route 66 was designated. The store had a gas station and sold a variety of goods. While it was mainly a grocery and general store, Williams and his wife Lora sold chili and barbecue beef to travelers on Route 66. The store even had a croquet court at one point, which hosted local tournaments. The court was eventually removed to add parking. Leo Williams leased the store to Lloyd Paxon in 1945; Leo died before the lease expired; his wife Lora ran the store until 1970.The store is now known as the Eisler Brothers Old Riverton Store. It is still in operation and serves as the headquarters of the Route 66 Association of Kansas. This place was the inspiration for the Route 66 songs for the Pixar movie Cars. The store was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 29, 2003.

Shoal Creek is an 81.5-mile-long (131.2 km) stream tributary of the Spring River in southwest Missouri and southeast Kansas. It begins in Barry County, Missouri southwest of Exeter and flows west through Newton county in Missouri before emptying into the Spring River near Riverton in Cherokee County, Kansas.

Riverton is an unincorporated community in Cherokee County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the community and nearby areas was 771. It is located at the junction of K-66 (former U.S. Route 66) and U.S. Route 69 Alternate and U.S. Route 400, near the Spring River. It is one of only three communities in Kansas along former U.S. Route 66.
