Gilbert High School is a public high school in Gilbert, Iowa, United States. A part of the Gilbert Community School District, it serves Gilbert and northern Ames.

Franklin Township is a township in Story County, Iowa, United States. As of the 2000 census, its population was 19,061. The polling location for the township is the Gilbert Lutheran Church, 135 School Street in Gilbert.

North Grand Mall is a 340,000-square-foot (32,000 m2) shopping center serving the city of Ames, Iowa. In 2006, plans were announced for a $30 million renovation and expansion. In 2004, a farmers' market operated at the mall. The mall's anchor stores are Kohl's, Shoe Carnival, TJ Maxx, North Grand Cinema, and JCPenney, with one vacancy previously occupied by Younkers. Sears announced its closure in late 2008. The Sears building was torn down, with Kohl's, TJ Maxx, and Shoe Carnival opening on its site.In 2017, then-owners GK Development sold the mall to a trio of investors.

Veenker Memorial Golf Course is a public golf course which is owned and operated by Iowa State University. The golf course was completed in 1938 and it has hosted the Iowa Master's golf tournament since then. In 1959 the course was renamed for George F. Veenker, who was the head football coach at Iowa State from 1931 to 1936. In 2003 Veenker was ranked among "America's Best State Public Access Courses" by Golfweek magazine.

It is a top-level national laboratory for research on national security, energy, and the environment. The laboratory conducts research into areas of national concern, including the synthesis and study of new materials, energy resources, high-speed computer design, and environmental cleanup and restoration. It is located on the campus of Iowa State University. In January 2013 the Department of Energy announced the establishment of the Critical Materials Institute (CMI) at Ames Laboratory, with a mission to develop solutions to the domestic shortages of rare-earth metals and other materials critical to US energy security.

Ames () is a city in Story County, Iowa, United States, located approximately 30 miles (48 km) north of Des Moines in central Iowa. It is best known as the home of Iowa State University (ISU), with leading agriculture, design, engineering, and veterinary medicine colleges. A United States Department of Energy national laboratory, Ames Laboratory, is located on the ISU campus. According to the 2020 census, Ames had a population of 66,427, making it the state's ninth most populous city. Iowa State University was home to 27,854 students as of spring 2023, which make up approximately one half of the city's population. Ames also hosts United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) sites: the largest federal animal disease center in the United States, the USDA Agricultural Research Service's National Animal Disease Center (NADC), as well as one of two national USDA sites for the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), which comprises the National Veterinary Services Laboratory and the Center for Veterinary Biologics. Ames also hosts the headquarters of the Iowa Department of Transportation.

Iowa State Armory was a 7,500-seat multi-purpose arena in Ames, Iowa. It was home to the Iowa State University Cyclones basketball team until Hilton Coliseum opened in 1971. The main floor of the arena now serves as project space for the College of Design. Other tenants of the building include the Department of Public Safety as well as Army, Navy, and Air Force ROTC.

Roosevelt School, also known as Second Ward School, is a historic building located in Ames, Iowa, United States. It is significant as an example of a Progressive Era school building that served as a neighborhood elementary school from its construction in 1924 until it was controversially closed in 2005. It was designed by the local architectural firm of Kimball, Bailie & Cowgill. It exemplifies the ideals of "ample sunlight, fresh air, and open space for the innovative subjects and learning conditions advocated by Progressive educators." The stripped-down version of the Beaux-Arts style of the two-story brick structure also embodied the progressive philosophy of constructing noble public buildings. During its years as a school, the building served as a catylist for the development of the neighborhood from the 1920s to the 1950s, and served as its community center, park, and playground. The school was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010. RES-Development purchased the property and converted the building into 20 condominiums, which opened in 2015.

The Farm House, also known as the Knapp–Wilson House, is the oldest building on the campus of Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. Now a museum open to the general public, this house was built 1861-65 as part of the model farm that eventually became Iowa State. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1964 for its association with agriculturist and teacher Seaman A. Knapp and with U.S. Secretary of Agriculture James Wilson, both of whom lived here while teaching at Iowa State.
