Iowa State Armory

Ames National Laboratory, formerly Ames Laboratory, is a United States Department of Energy national laboratory located in Ames, Iowa, and affiliated with Iowa State University. It is a top-level national laboratory for research on national security, energy, and the environment. The laboratory conducts research into areas of national concern, including the synthesis and study of new materials, energy resources, high-speed computer design, and environmental cleanup and restoration. It is located on the campus of Iowa State University. In January 2013 the Department of Energy announced the establishment of the Critical Materials Institute (CMI) at Ames Laboratory, with a mission to develop solutions to the domestic shortages of rare-earth metals and other materials critical to US energy security.

Iowa State University College of Engineering is one of eight colleges of Iowa State University of Science and Technology in Ames, Iowa. The University was founded in 1858 as the Iowa Agricultural College with classes in agriculture and mechanical arts, now called engineering. In 1898, the school was renamed as "Iowa State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts—Science with Practice", with divisions in agriculture, veterinary science, engineering, and science and philosophy. Iowa State took on its current name in 1959 and the College of Engineering was formally established at that time. The College of Engineering at Iowa State hosts the largest engineering career fairs in the country in which more than 440 companies participate in each fair. The college has a high placement rate of 98%.Iowa State $284.2 million in research grants in the fiscal year of 2022.

Morrill Hall, on the campus of Iowa State University, is a historic building that now houses the Christian Petersen Art Museum. It was named for Justin Smith Morrill, who created the Morrill Land-Grant Colleges Act. Construction was completed in 1891 with less than $30,000. Morrill Hall was originally constructed to fill the capacity of a library, museum, and chapel. These original uses are engraved in the exterior stonework on the east side. It was vacated starting in 1996 when it was determined unsafe. Also in 1996, Morrill Hall was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2005, $9 million was raised to renovate the building and convert it into a museum. Morrill Hall has reopened as of March 2007, including the new Christian Petersen Art Museum. The building has 27,172 square feet. Chimneys at the four corners are designed to provide draft for natural ventilation, unlike most chimneys (which exhaust products of burning).: 6 

The Laboratory of Mechanics, formerly known as Engineering Hall, is a historic building on the campus of Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, United States. The two-story, brick structure with a mansard roof is a simplified version of the Second Empire style. It features a three-story tower with a mansard roof at the main entry. The original building was L-shaped, designed by J.B. Ballinger, and built by V. Tomlinson. Its first addition was designed by the Des Moines architectural firm of Foster & Liebbe, and completed in 1885 by Tomlinson. Other additions were completed in 1933 and 1997.The building originally housed Iowa State Agricultural College's Department of Mechanical and Civil Engineering. It was remodeled into a laboratory building in 1907. The building currently houses the Architecture Department, Engineering Administration, Faculty Senate, IT Services CIO, and Mechanical Engineering. Its historical significance is derived from its being the university's first engineering building and its survival as the oldest instructional building on campus. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Iowa State University of Science and Technology (Iowa State University, Iowa State, or ISU) is a public land-grant research university in Ames, Iowa. Founded in 1858 as the Iowa Agricultural College and Model Farm, Iowa State became one of the nation's first designated land-grant institutions when the Iowa Legislature accepted the provisions of the 1862 Morrill Act on September 11, 1862, making Iowa the first state in the nation to do so. On July 4, 1959, the college was officially renamed Iowa State University of Science and Technology.Iowa State is the largest university in the State of Iowa by total enrollment. The university's academic offerings are administered through eight colleges, including the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the College of Veterinary Medicine, the College of Engineering, the Graduate College, the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, the College of Design, Debbie and Jerry Ivy College of Business, and the College of Human Sciences. They offer over 100 bachelor's degree programs, 112 master's degree programs, and 83 doctoral degree programs, plus a professional degree program in Veterinary Medicine.Iowa State is classified among "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity". The university is home to the Ames Laboratory, one of ten national U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science research laboratories, the Biorenewables Research Laboratory, the Plant Sciences Institute, and various other research institutes. Iowa State University's athletic teams, the Cyclones, compete in Division I of the NCAA and are a founding member of the Big 12.

State Gymnasium is an arena on the campus of Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. It was opened in 1913, and once was the school's primary indoor athletic facility, before the opening of Hilton Coliseum. It is located at the corner of Union Drive, just north of the site of the former Clyde Williams Stadium. The brick building was built in two years at a cost of $150,000. It was intended for use as an armory and fieldhouse, something for which the school had been attempting to get funding since the early 1890s. The Iowa State basketball team played in the arena from 1913 until 1946. Beginning in 1946, home games were held in the Iowa State Armory, which continued until the construction of Hilton Coliseum in 1971. State Gym has since been renovated into recreational facilities, including four basketball courts, a swimming pool (the original home of the swimming team), tennis courts, a 1/12 mile indoor track, and other facilities for recreational sports.

The Enrollment Services Center is a building at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. It houses Offices in Enrollment Services: Admissions, Orientation, Records and registration. In 1978, the building was placed on the National Register of Historic places.

The Iowa State University campus contains over 160 buildings, several of which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Iowa State University's campus, specifically its Central Campus, has been recognized as one of the nation's most beautiful and was listed as a "medallion site" by the American Society of Landscape Architects in 1999.

Clyde Williams Field was an outdoor stadium on the campus of Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. It was the home of the Iowa State Cyclones football and track and field teams. It was originally built in 1914–15, just south of the recently completed State Gym. It originally held 5,000 spectators, but expansions in 1925, 1930, 1932, 1961 and 1966 brought the final capacity up to approximately 35,000. The stadium was the home of the Cyclones football team from its completion until 1975, when Jack Trice Stadium opened in the newly built Iowa State Center complex to the south of the main campus. Clyde Williams Field was razed in 1978. The site is now occupied by Eaton and Martin Halls, two residence halls constructed in 2002 and 2004, respectively. The stadium was known as State Field until October 1938 when it was renamed for Clyde Williams, coach and athletic director at the school who died in March 1938.

The Iowa State University Campanile is located on Iowa State's central campus, and is home to the Stanton Memorial Carillon. The campanile is widely seen as one of the major symbols of Iowa State University. It is featured prominently on the university's official ring and the university's mace, and is also the subject of the university's alma mater ("The Bells of Iowa State").

Clear Creek is a stream in Boone and Story counties, Iowa, in the United States. It is a tributary to Ioway Creek, known as Squaw Creek until 2021. Clear Creek was descriptively named on account of its clear water.

On July 4, 1959, the school was renamed "Iowa State University of Science and Technology" and the College of Agriculture became one of five colleges (i.e., College of Agriculture, College of Engineering, College of Home Economics, College of Sciences and Humanities, and College of Veterinary Medicine). In 2007, the College of Agriculture was renamed "College of Agriculture and Life Sciences".
