Aquarium of Genoa

L'Esposizione Internazionale Specializzata Genova '92 - Colombo '92 (in English International Exhibition Genoa '92 - Colombo '92) or more informally Expo 1992, was held in Genoa, Italy from 15 May to 15 August 1992. The theme was "Christopher Columbus, The Ship and the Sea", and the Expo was timed to celebrate the 500 years since the discovery of America by the Genoese sailor Christopher Columbus. Because of the theme, the expo was also known as Colombiadi. It was a specialized Exhibition with 54 countries represented. Total visitors were 694,800. The exposition ran at the same time as the larger and longer duration Seville Expo '92, a Universal Exposition, held in the city from whose port (on the Guadalquivir) Columbus had sailed in 1492. The expo's logo was a "500" number with Genoa's flag; the mascot was a cat dressed like Christopher Columbus called "Gatto Cristoforo"

The Neptune is a ship replica of a 17th-century Spanish galleon designed by Naval Architect David Cannell. The ship was built in 1985 for Roman Polanski's film Pirates, where she portrayed the Spanish ship of the same name. An accurate replica above the waterline, but sporting a partly steel hull, planked in timber and two main engines with Schottel drive, the Neptune is currently a tourist attraction in the port of Genoa, where its interior can be visited for a 9 euro entry fee. In 2011, she portrayed the Jolly Roger, the ship of Captain Hook, in the TV miniseries Neverland.

San Giorgio is a Genoa Metro station in Genoa, Italy. It is located under Piazza della Raibetta beside the Palazzo San Giorgio, after which it is named. It is in the Old Harbour area near the Aquarium of Genoa.The station was designed by architects Renzo Piano BWS ndm.

Darsena is a Genoa Metro station, located on Via Antonio Gramsci close to Piazza della Darsena, in Genoa, Italy. Darsena translates to dock in English. The station serves the old port area of the city. The station has a very large, bright mezzanine. There are two exits: one is in the northerly sidewalk, the other is towards the quayside, under the elevated Strada Aldo Moro. The station officially opened on 25 July 2003 but functional operation began on 7 August.

The Palazzo San Giorgio or Palace of St. George (also known as the Palazzo delle Compere di San Giorgio) is a palace in Genoa, Italy. It is situated in the Piazza Caricamento. The palace was built in 1260 by Guglielmo Boccanegra, uncle of Simone Boccanegra, the first Doge of Genoa. For the construction of the new palace, materials were used from the demolition of the Venetian embassy in Constantinople, having been obtained from Byzantine Emperor Michael VIII as a reward for Genoese aid against the Latin Empire. Stone lions – the emblem of Venice's patron St Mark – were displayed as trophies on the facade by her bitter rival, the Republic of Genoa. The palace was intended — through the creation of a civil-political center — to separate and elevate the temporal power of the Republic's government from the religious power of the clergy, centered on the Cathedral of San Lorenzo. In 1262, Guglielmo Boccanegra was deposed and forced into exile. The palace was used for a time as a prison; Marco Polo was its most famous resident and it was there that he dictated his memoirs to Rustichello of Pisa. In the 15th century, the palace became home to the Bank of Saint George.

The church of San Pancrazio is found in central Genoa, in front of the piazza named after the same saint. A church at the site was first linked to the nearby Benedictine Abbey of San Siro in the 11th century. A document from the 16th century notes that the church had been for centuries endowed by prominent Genoese families including the Calvi and Pallavicini. The present layout dates into the 18th century. In 1684, the church was demolished by the bombardment of Genoa by the naval forces of Louis XIV of France. The architect Antonio Maria Ricca designed the present structure. The church was again damaged by aerial bombing during the Second World War. It is now attached to the Sovereign Military Order of Malta as evidenced by the cross above the portal. The apse frescoes were completed by Giacomo Antonio Boni, while the triptych of the Life of St. Pancras, attributed to Adriaen Isenbrandt, has been reconstructed within a decorative marble main altar.

The palazzo Cipriano Pallavicini is a building located in the historical centre of Genoa in Piazza Fossatello at number 2, which is one of the 42 palaces included in the site called Le Strade Nuove e il Sistema dei Palazzi dei Rolli di Genova that became part of the UNESCO World Heritage UNESCO World Heritage on 13 July 2006.

The Palazzo Ambrogio Di Negro is a building located in Via San Luca at number 2 in the area of the Mercato di Banchi in the historic centre of Genoa, included on 13 July 2006 in the list of the 42 palaces enrolled in the Rolli di Genova that became World Heritage by UNESCO on that date. It preserves an important Mannerist painting cycle inside. In front of the palace is the Loggia dei Mercanti (Genoa) and the Church of San Pietro in Banchi.

The siege of Genoa (6 April – 4 June 1800) saw Austria besiege and capture the city of Genoa from France during the War of the Second Coalition. However, the battle was ultimately a successful diversion conducted by André Masséna's forces that allowed Napoleon to win the subsequent Battle of Marengo. In the end, around 30,000 of Genoa's 160,000 inhabitants had died of starvation and disease in the course of the siege.
