San Giorgio (Genoa Metro)

The Palazzo San Giorgio or Palace of St. George (also known as the Palazzo delle Compere di San Giorgio) is a palace in Genoa, Italy. It is situated in the Piazza Caricamento. The palace was built in 1260 by Guglielmo Boccanegra, uncle of Simone Boccanegra, the first Doge of Genoa. For the construction of the new palace, materials were used from the demolition of the Venetian embassy in Constantinople, having been obtained from Byzantine Emperor Michael VIII as a reward for Genoese aid against the Latin Empire. Stone lions – the emblem of Venice's patron St Mark – were displayed as trophies on the facade by her bitter rival, the Republic of Genoa. The palace was intended — through the creation of a civil-political center — to separate and elevate the temporal power of the Republic's government from the religious power of the clergy, centered on the Cathedral of San Lorenzo. In 1262, Guglielmo Boccanegra was deposed and forced into exile. The palace was used for a time as a prison; Marco Polo was its most famous resident and it was there that he dictated his memoirs to Rustichello of Pisa. In the 15th century, the palace became home to the Bank of Saint George.

It preserves an important Mannerist painting cycle inside. In front of the palace is the Loggia dei Mercanti (Genoa) and the Church of San Pietro in Banchi.

San Torpete is a church in central Genoa, northern Italy, dedicated to Saint Torpes. It was founded in the 11th century by local merchants. It was rebuilt in 1730 under designs conceived by Giovanni Antonio Ricca. The interior ceiling is decorated with paintings and stucco by Giovanni Bernardo Carlone depicting scenes of the Life of San Torpete. An altarpiece of Madonna with St Thomas Becket of Canterbury, St Lucia and John the Baptist is attributed to the studio of Luca Cambiaso or Andrea Semini. The small statue of the Virgin of Providence at the main altar was completed by Giovanni Battista Drago. The altar of San Filippo Neri has a painting depicting The Saint in ecstasy attributed to the studio of Giovanni Battista Paggi.

Basilica of Our Lady of the Assumption (Italian: Basilica di Nostra Signora Assunta is a Roman Catholic church in the town of Genoa, in the Province of Genoa and the region of Liguria, Italy. This church was constructed during 1610–1624. The Baroque-style facade was added in 1932, design of the architect Piero de Barbieri; the sculptor Luigi Venzano contributed the facade statues of St. John the Baptist and St. Joseph, while the central relief depicts the Madonna. The interior was decorated across the centuries and includes works by Giulio Benso, Domenico Piola, Nicolò Barabino, and Gian Stefano Rossi. It should not be confused with the distinct Santa Maria Assunta also called Santa Maria di Carignano.

The Loggia della Mercanzia (also known as Loggia di Banchi or Loggia dei Mercanti) is one of the most representative buildings in the historical centre of Genoa. It is located in Piazza Banchi, at the corner with Via San Luca, in the ancient sestiere of the Maddalena, not far from the church of San Pietro in Banchi, in the commercial heart of the ancient city.

The Palazzo Cattaneo Della Volta', also called Palazzo Cattaneo di San Torpete or Palazzo di Nicolò Cattaneo, is a building located in Piazza Cattaneo at number 26 in the historical centre of Genoa. The building was included in the list of palaces inscribed in the Rolli di Genova.

The church of Santi Cosma e Damiano is located in central Genoa, ItalyLocated at the site of an ancient oratory, it is dedicated to the martyrs St. Cosma and Damian. The skull and tibia of the latter are presumably among the relics in the church. They were the patron saints of barbers and doctors. The first documents about the church date to 1049. In 1684, the church roof was damaged by the naval bombardment of the city. It was also damaged during the bombing of Genoa in World War II. It contains a painting of Esther and Assuerus by Bernardo Castello and a Madonna and child with St Cosma and Damian by Gioacchino Assereto.

The church of the Santissimo Nome di Maria e degli Angeli Custodi, commonly known as the Church of the Scuole Pie, is a church in central Genoa, located a few metres away from the Cathedral of Genoa. The church was built on property belonging to the community of Piarist or Scolopi fathers (members of the Order of Poor Clerics Regular of the Mother of God of the Pious Schools, who had come to the city to establish a school from the town of Savona in the 16th century. Church construction began in 1712, and was completed by around 1770. Among the artists completing frescoes in the interior were Giuseppe Galeotti and Andrea Leoncini. Galeotti painted the Saints Jerome, Ambrogio, Gregory, and Augustine in the Pilasters. Leoncini frescoed Giuseppe Calasanzio (the founder of the order of the scolopi). Francesco Maria Schiaffino designed nine relief sculptures present in the church, and died (1765) before they were all completed by his studio. The three representing the Nativity, Mary at the Temple, and Young Jesus among the Scholars, while the Marriage of Mary, the Annunciation, the Visitation of Anne, the Assumption of the Virgin, the Descent of the Holy Spirit, and Flight to Egypt were by pupils, including this last once completed by a young Nicolò Traverso). The statue of Mary at the main altar was completed by Tommaso Orsolino, while a painting of the Guardian Angel was completed by Giovanni Paolo Oderico.
