The Henry and Caroline Schrage House, also known as the Schrage Mansion, is a historic structure located in Whiting, Indiana. It was built by Henry Schrage, a German immigrant, Union Civil War veteran, and a settler of Whiting’s Station. Schrage founded numerous businesses in Whiting, including the Bank of Whiting, today known as Centier Bank. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (100006562).

Whiting Memorial Community House, also known as Whiting Community Center, is a historic community center located at Whiting, Lake County, Indiana. It was built in 1923, and is a two-story, steel frame building faced in rough red brick and in an eclectic style. It has a hipped red tile roof, scattered gables and arches, and concrete bracket and medallion detailing. The building houses an auditorium, meeting rooms, an indoor track, gyms, lockers, a bowling alley, and swimming pool. It was built by the Standard Oil Company for the city of Whiting.: 2–3 It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

The Mascot Hall of Fame, formally "The Mascot Hall of Fame Interactive Children's Museum", is an interactive children's museum and hall of fame for North American sports mascots. It was founded by David Raymond, who was the original Phillie Phanatic from 1978 to 1993. It was founded as an online-only hall, with an induction ceremony taking place each year in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. However, in September 2014, Raymond's mascot company signed a memorandum of understanding with the City of Whiting, Indiana, to develop a permanent Mascot Hall of Fame on the south shore of Lake Michigan. The museum opened December 26, 2018.The Mascot Hall of Fame is more than just a giant fun factory. It is an educational, S.T.E.A.M. based, fully interactive museum where children of all ages can come and learn what it takes to be a mascot. Each year (beginning in 2005), mascots are elected into the Mascot Hall of Fame by the voting membership and an executive committee made up of performers, sports executives, and other individuals intimate with the mascot community. The mascots go through a nomination process that ends with the executive committee selecting six finalist in each category to be placed on the ballot for consideration. There is a public online vote that contributes a percentage of the final tally. In 2006, the Hall added a separate class to honor college mascots.To be eligible for the Mascot Hall of Fame, a mascot must have existed for a minimum of 10 years. They must also impact both their sport and community, inspire their fans, and consistently give memorable and groundbreaking performances.

Calumet College of St. Joseph (or, Calumet College) is a private Roman Catholic college in Whiting, Indiana, US. It has additional campuses in Chicago and Merrillville, Indiana. The college was founded in 1951 as an extension of Saint Joseph's College and is associated with the Missionaries of the Precious Blood. In fall 2017, it enrolled 624 undergraduates and 210 graduate students.

Hoosier Theater Building is a historic theatre and attached commercial / residential building located at Whiting, Lake County, Indiana. It was built in 1924, and is a three-story, rectangular, brown brick building. It has a flat roof and three storefronts, along with the 2+1⁄2-story arched theater entrance trimmed in terra cotta and marquee. The theater is a plain 3+1⁄2-story brick structure attached to the end and rear of the commercial / residential section.: 2–3 It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

The Pierogi Fest is an annual festival in Whiting, Indiana, United States, organized by the Whiting–Robertsdale Chamber of Commerce (WRCoC). It gets its name from the pierogi, a Polish dumpling. It draws more than 250,000 visitors each year.The festival takes place on the last weekend of July, on 119th Street in downtown Whiting. The street is only open to foot traffic during the festival. There are food booths set up along the streets serving pierogi, kielbasa and sauerkraut. There are also live music performances, and carnival rides. Other events include a Polka Parade, Pierogi Toss and eating competitions, and the Mr. Pierogi Songfest, which features food and fest-related parodies of popular songs. It features locally famous characters to bring goodwill, such as Mr. Pierogi, the Buscias, Miss Paczki, Halupki Guy, Polkahontas, and the Pieroguettes. Pierogi Fest has been featured by Oprah, Yahoo Travel, and more. In 2017 the festival's organizers filed a trademark infringement lawsuit in federal court against the organizers of the Edwardsville, Pennsylvania, Pierogi Festival, asking them to change their event's name. At first the Edwardsville Hometown Committee (EHC), who characterized the WRCoC's requested licensing fee as "extortionate", filed a counterclaim challenging the trademark and seeking damages against the WRCoC for enforcing an invalid trademark. By the beginning of June 2018, when the Edwardsville event is held, however, the two sides had reached a settlement in which the EHC recognized the trademark in return for permission to hold its own.2020 saw the festival get scrapped caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Whiting Refinery is an oil refinery located on the southwestern shore of Lake Michigan and the Indiana Harbor Ship Canal and operated by BP. The facility is primarily located in Whiting, Indiana, USA, though portions of the 1,400 acres (5.7 km2) complex span into the neighboring cities of Hammond and East Chicago.The refinery was established in 1889 by Standard Oil of Indiana. It is the sixth largest refinery in the US and has a capacity of more than 400,000 barrels per day (64,000 m3/d) of crude oil.

Whihala Beach County Park is a park in Whiting, Indiana, United States. It is a public beach with life guards. The beach was previously named Whiting Beach.Whihala Beach is named after the nearby cities of Whiting and Hammond and Lake County Parks Department.

Clark High School was a public secondary school located in Whiting, Indiana. Clark served students in grades 6–12 in the School City of Hammond. Following the 2020–2021 school year, the school closed due to the consolidation of Hammond schools.

Hammond–Whiting station is an Amtrak intercity train station in Hammond, Indiana. The station is along the former Pennsylvania Railroad Fort Wayne Line, now owned by Norfolk Southern Railway. North of the station lies the former Baltimore and Ohio (now CSX) and Elgin, Joliet and Eastern Railroad (now Canadian National) tracks. The station building and parking lot lies on the former New York Central Railroad mainline. Hammond–Whiting opened on September 11, 1982. Until the early 2000s, it was served by all Amtrak service that ran east from Chicago; today, it is only served by two daily Wolverine round trips.
