Penbrooke Meadows, Calgary

East Calgary is a former village in Alberta, Canada that is now within the City of Calgary. Located on the north side of 17 Avenue SE (Highway 1A) between 60 Street SE and 84 Street SE, East Calgary held village status for just over three years between 1916 and 1919.

The Hub Oil explosion was an industrial accident that took place on August 9, 1999 in Calgary, Alberta and caused two fatalities. The Hub Oil refinery was located at 5805 17 Avenue SE, near the eastern edge of Calgary and immediately south of the residential community of Penbrooke.

Red Carpet is a community in the southeast quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is located at the eastern edge of the city, between the CN tracks, 17 Avenue SE and 68 Street SE. Elliston Park and Elliston Lake, the site of GlobalFest fireworks, are located immediately south of the community.

International Avenue is a Business Revitalization Zone (BRZ) in Calgary, Alberta. The district is centered on 17 Avenue SE in the neighbourhood of Forest Lawn in the east of the city. The district was created in 1993 to celebrate the rich cultural diversity that exists in east central Calgary. The area has since become a popular location for ethnic restaurants and shopping. The BRZ was also established to help revitalize the former town of Forest Lawn, which was annexed by the city in 1961. The neighbourhood has long had a reputation for being a haven for crime and drugs. In recent years, however, the area has been recognized for its multi-culturalism and has been slowly developing into a major destination for both Calgary residents and tourists. The city and the BRZ are currently in the process of implementing new urban design and redevelopment initiatives. Since 2003, International Avenue has played host to Calgary's large multi-cultural event, GlobalFest. GlobalFest combines both a celebration of diversity known as OneWorld Festival and an International Fireworks Festival at Elliston Park. The event takes place annually in late August.

Marlborough Park is a residential neighbourhood in the northeast quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is bounded by 68 Street E to the east, 52 Street E to the west, Trans-Canada Highway to the north and Memorial Drive to the south. The homonymous park is located at the center of the community. The land was annexed by the City of Calgary in 1961 and Marlborough Park was established in 1972. It is represented in the Calgary City Council by the Ward 10 councillor.

Calgary East was a federal electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1917 to 1953, 1979 to 1988, from 1997 to 2015. It was a lower income urban riding in Calgary, with a sizable visible minority population.

Applewood Park is a residential neighbourhood in the southeast quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is located at the eastern edge of the city, north of 17 Avenue SE. Elliston Park, the site of GlobalFest fireworks, is located southwest of the community. Applewood was established in 1982 and is represented in the Calgary City Council by the Ward 9 councillor. The community has an area structure plan in place.

Forest Heights is a residential community in the southeast quadrant of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Forest Heights is represented under Ward 9. Forest Heights is not to be confused with Forest Lawn, which sits directly to the south of the community. These two communities are listed as distinct identities from one-another by the City of Calgary. The community is apart of an group of communities known as the Greater Forest Lawn area, with the term coming from the former town of Forest Lawn which used to exist in the area prior to being annexed by the city of Calgary. Other communities in this area include Forest Lawn, Southview, Penbrooke Meadows, Dover, and Red Carpet.

Forest Lawn is a neighbourhood and former town in the southeast quadrant of the city of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The neighbourhood is bound by 26 Avenue SE to the south, 36 Street SE to the west, 8 Avenue SE to the north and portions of 52 Street SE and 48 Street SE to the east. The former town comprises the entire current Forest Lawn neighbourhood as well as portions of Southview and Albert Park/Radisson Heights to the west, and portions of Penbrooke Meadows and Forest Lawn Industrial to the east. Both the neighbourhood and the former town are bisected by the multicultural 17 Avenue SE. Forest Lawn has an area redevelopment plan in place and is part of the International Avenue Business Revitalization Zone. The community is represented in the Calgary City Council by the Ward 9 councillor. On a federal level, Forest Lawn falls in the electoral district of Calgary Forest Lawn and is currently represented in the House of Commons by MP Jasraj Hallan.

Forest Lawn High School is a high school in Calgary, Alberta, Canada in the southeast community of Forest Lawn. The senior high school has sports teams, who are known as the Titans, drama productions, dance, band, and choir. The school is located on 44th street, and is near Ernest Morrow Junior High, Jack James Senior High, Bob Bahan Memorial Pool, and Ernie Star Arena. Forest Lawn serves the communities of Abbeydale, Albert Park, Applewood Park, Dover, Erin Woods, Forest Heights, Forest Lawn, Marlborough, Marlborough Park, Penbrooke Meadows, Pineridge, Radisson Heights, Red Carpet/Mountview Mobile Home Park, Rundle, Southview, Temple, and Whitehorn. Junior high feeder schools to Forest Lawn High School are Ernest Morrow, Ian Bazalgette, Langevin, and Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Dr. Gladys McKelvie Egbert, Bob Edwards, Clarence Sansom, Dr. Gordon Higgins, Annie Gale.

Calgary-East (formally styled Calgary East) is a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada. The district is mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. Calgary-East has existed twice, the first incarnation was created from Calgary North East in the redistribution of 1963. The riding was abolished in 1971 when it became Calgary-McCall. The return of Calgary-East happened in the 1993 boundary redistribution when Calgary-Forest Lawn and half of Calgary-Millican were merged. This riding covers the central north east portion of Calgary and contains the neighbourhoods of Vista Heights, Rundle, Marlborough and Mayland Heights. Three MLAs have held this riding to date. The first Calgary East was represented by Social Credit MLA Albert Ludwig and the second Calgary-East solidly supported Progressive Conservative candidate Moe Amery, until the 2015 Alberta election when the riding was won by NDP candidate Robyn Luff.

Calgary-Forest Lawn was a provincial electoral district in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using the first past the post method of voting from 1979 to 1993.
