Garrett, Indiana

The Garrett Historic District is a national historic district located at Garrett, DeKalb County, Indiana. It is roughly the area bound by Railroad Street on the North, Britton Street on the East, Hamsher Street on the West and Warfield Street on the South with Randolph Street extending to 3rd Ave. to the South. The district encompasses 925 contributing buildings in the central business district and surrounding residential sections of Garrett.: Part 1, p. 32  Within the District, there are many buildings dating back to the earliest days of the City of Garrett. Garrett City Hall, former Masonic Temple, Silver Screen Theater, Garret Clinic, Johnson Building, B&O Railroad Freight House, Mountz House and more. Just outside the District are many school houses and the Garrett-Keyser-Butler Community School District complex. In 2008–2009, the downtown area of Garrett was fully revamped with vintage style lamps and decorative planters. All power lines were placed underground and new sidewalks with bricks were laid. While many buildings have been torn down or lost over the years due to unsustainable damages, the District still boasts its heritage with the continuing renovation of buildings and other buildings being built or renovated to look like period buildings of the District's beginnings in 1875.

Mountz House is a historic home located at Garrett, DeKalb County, Indiana. It was built in 1893, and is a two-story, four bay by five bay, Queen Anne style frame dwelling. It has a cross gable roof and two-story gabled wing. It sits on a fieldstone foundation and has a pitched slate roof. It has narrow clapboard siding and decorative diamond-shaped checkerboard pattern panels. It features a front porch with turned posts and decorative brackets. Also on the property is a contributing barn.: 2  It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Keyser Township is one of fifteen townships in DeKalb County, Indiana. As of the 2020 census, its population was 7,853, up from 7,666 at the 2010 census, and it contained 3,134 housing units.

Garrett station was a railway station in Garrett, Indiana.

Garrett High School is a 9-12 grade public high school located in Garrett, Indiana.

Garrett Community Mausoleum is a historic mausoleum located in Calvary Cemetery at Garrett, DeKalb County, Indiana. It was built in 1922, and is a one-story, cubic granite structure with simple Classical Revival style detail. It measures 30 feet wide and 42 feet deep. The mausoleum was largely used for interments into the 1950s, with the most recent in 1999.: 3  It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

Samuel Bevier House is a historic home located near Garrett in Keyser Township, DeKalb County, Indiana. It was built in 1905, and is a two-story, cast stone Colonial Revival style dwelling with Queen Anne massing. It has a two bay porch supported by cast stone Tuscan order columns.: Part 1, p. 23  It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

John Wilderson House is a historic home located at Garrett, DeKalb County, Indiana. It was built about 1909, and is a two-story, L-shaped, Colonial Revival-style frame dwelling. It features a wraparound porch on a cast stone base and supported by unfluted Tuscan order columns.: Part 1, p. 24  It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Henry Peters House is a historic home located at Garrett, DeKalb County, Indiana. It was built about 1910, and is a two-story, Colonial Revival-style frame dwelling. It has a hip roofed main block with projecting end gables. It features a hip roofed wraparound porch.: Part 1, p. 22  It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Keyser Township School 8 is a historic school building located at Garrett, DeKalb County, Indiana. It was built in 1914, and is a one-story, Romanesque Revival-style brick building on a raised basement. It has a hipped roof. The building was converted to apartments in 1956.: Part 1, p. 29  It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Charles Lehmback Farmstead is a historic home located near Garrett in Keyser Township, DeKalb County, Indiana. It was built in 1911, and is a two-story, Queen Anne-style frame dwelling with a one-story shed roofed addition. It has a one-story wraparound porch.: Part 1, p. 21  It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

J.H. Haag House is a historic home located at Garrett, DeKalb County, Indiana. It was built about 1875, and is a two-story, Italianate-style brick dwelling. It has a cross gable roof and two-story gabled wing.: Part 1, p. 20  It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
