Smith's Castle

Rabbitt Island is a small island in Wickford Harbor, Narragansett Bay, Wickford, Rhode Island. Roger Williams received the island from Chief Canonicus' wife as a gift for a place to raise his goats. Richard Smith, who built Smith's Castle, later owned the island.

North Kingstown is a town in Washington County, Rhode Island, United States, and is part of the Providence metropolitan area. The population was 27,732 in the 2020 census. North Kingstown is home to the birthplace of American portraitist Gilbert Stuart, who was born in the village of Saunderstown. Within the town is Quonset Point, location of the former Naval Air Station Quonset Point, known for the invention of the Quonset hut, as well as the historic village of Wickford.

Cornelius Island is a small uninhabited island in Wickford Harbor, Narragansett Bay, Wickford, Rhode Island.

The Palmer–Northrup House (or "Northup House") is an historic house at 7919 Post Road in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. It is a 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame structure, and is one of a small number of surviving stone ender houses in the state. Its architecture suggests it was built in the 17th century, either around the time of King Philip's War (1675–78) or possibly even earlier. The oldest portion of the house, including its massive fieldstone chimney, are relatively intact despite later additions around 1740 that significantly enlarged the house. The house stands across the street from Smith's Castle, a house of similar vintage which was built on the site of a trading post established by Roger Williams in 1637.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Wickford is a small village in the town of North Kingstown, Rhode Island, United States, which is named after Wickford in Essex, England. Wickford is located on the west side of Narragansett Bay, just about a 20-minute drive across two bridges from Newport, Rhode Island. The village is built around one of the most well-protected natural harbors on the eastern seaboard, and features one of the largest collections of 18th century dwellings to be found anywhere in the Northeast. Today the majority of the village's historic homes and buildings (most in private hands) remain largely intact upon their original foundations.

Old Narragansett Church (also known as Old St. Paul's Church and St. Paul's Episcopal Church) is a historic Episcopal church located at 60 Church Lane in Wickford, Rhode Island, believed to be the oldest Episcopal church building in the Northeastern United States.

St. Paul's Church is a historic church at 55 Main Street in the village of Wickford within the town of North Kingstown, Rhode Island. It is a single-story Romanesque Revival structure, designed by Rhode Island architect Thomas Tefft and built in 1847. Its main rectangular block has a gable roof, and narrow round-arch windows on the side walls with molded surrounds. The front of the church is asymmetrical, with the tower on the left and its entry slightly off-center between the tower and a small projecting narthex area. The square tower has single narrow round-arch windows on the first level, paired round-arch windows on the second, and clock faces on the third. A roof skirt rises to an open octagonal belfry, which is capped by a steeple and spire.The church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

The Narragansett Runestone, also known as the Quidnessett Rock, is a 2.5 t (2,500 kg) slab of metasandstone located in Rhode Island, United States. It is inscribed with two rows of symbols, which some have indicated resemble ancient runic characters.The stone was stolen in 2012. On April 26, 2013, the Rhode Island Attorney General announced that the rock was recovered after an individual came forward with information. The rock was moved to the University of Rhode Island School of Oceanography for testing, but the tests were not carried out because it would have required damaging the stone.In January 2014, plans were announced to move the runestone to Goddard Memorial State Park in East Greenwich. In October 2015, the runestone was placed for long-term public viewing in Wickford, a village of North Kingstown, Rhode Island.

The David S. Baker Estate, also known as Cedar Spring Farm, consists of a pair of related properties at 51 and 67 Prospect Avenue in the Wickford village of North Kingstown, Rhode Island. David Sherman Baker, Jr., a prominent local lawyer and contender for statewide offices built the house around 1882 with his wife. Members of the Baker family built the Italianate, the older of the two houses, 51 Prospect Avenue, which is a 1+1⁄2 story mansard-roofed that is modest in size but features an elaborate wrap around veranda decorated in fairly elaborated Italianate and Second Empire styling. The house at 67 Prospect is much larger 2+1⁄2 story construction, with a 3+1⁄2 story tower and front veranda, again in eclectic Second Empire style. It is one of the largest houses in Wickford, and was referred to by the family as the "Big House". It is unclear whether Baker built the Big House to accommodate his growing family, or as a venue for functions that were part of his political and social activities.The properties were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

Cocumscussoc is a brook and surrounding region in Wickford, Rhode Island. The Cocumscussoc Brook flows into Mill Cove off of Wickford Harbor. Roger Williams started a trading post with the Narragansetts in the 1630s, likely northeast of the brook and harbor. The exact location of Williams' trading post is not known, but Smith's Castle (1678) was located nearby. This homestead was originally a fortified house and trading post of Richard Smith. Female sachem Quaiapen lived near Cocumscussoc and was associated with nearby Queen's Fort after inheriting her husband's lands in 1657. Most of Cocumscussoc was used for agriculture, though the last dairy farm closed in 1948. The creation of a railroad in the 1800s and the expansion of Route 1 greatly altered the course of Cocumscussoc Brook. Today Cocumscussoc State Park preserves much of the land surrounding Cocumscussoc Brook.

Poplar Point Light (Lighthouse), built in 1831, is an historic lighthouse in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. It stands at the end of Poplar Point, marking the southern point of Wickford Harbor. The lighthouse was built in 1831 with a stone keeper's dwelling and wooden tower. The light was deactivated in 1882 and replaced by the Wickford Harbor Light. It was sold at auction in 1894 and has been altered by later owners. The lighthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. The tower is the oldest surviving wooden lighthouse tower in the United States, and the oldest in Rhode Island still standing at its original location.

Wickford Harbor Light, now officially Wickford Harbor Light 1, was built in 1882 as a square wood tower attached to a 1+1⁄2-story keeper's dwelling on Old Gay Rock on the south side of the entrance to Wickford Harbor on the west side of Narragansett Bay. It was deactivated and torn down in 1930 and replaced with the current black steel skeleton tower.
