Aalst [aːɫst] is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of Zaltbommel, and lies about 12 km southeast of Gorinchem. For a short while, Aalst was a separate municipality. In 1818, it became a part of the municipality of Poederoijen. According to the historian Van der Aa, there used to be an old castle here, but only a few remnants were left in the middle of the 19th century.It was first mentioned in 850 as "Halosta". Baldericus donated some pieces of land to the Benedictine monastery called Laurisheim. The etymology is unclear. Aalst developed into a stretched out esdorp. Part of the Protestant church dates from the 12th century. In 1840, it was home to 481 people.

Aalburg (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈaːlbʏr(ə)x] ) is a former municipality in the southern Netherlands, in the province of North Brabant. The municipality had been formed in 1973 by the merging of the former municipalities of Eethen, Veen, and Wijk en Aalburg. On January 1, 2019 it joined Werkendam and Woudrichem in the new municipality of Altena.

De Rietschoof is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of Zaltbommel, and lies about 13 km southeast of Gorinchem. It was first mentioned in 1847 as Rietschoof, and means bundle of reed (phragmites australis) for thatching. The postal authorities have placed it under Aalst. In 1840, it was home to 100 people. Since 2015, the hamlet has place name signs.

De Fuik is a restaurant in Aalst in the Netherlands. It is a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star in 2008 and retained that rating until 2011.GaultMillau did not award the restaurant any points, but retained it in its Guide. The restaurant has lost its rating due to the new owner/head chef coming in.Owner and head chef of De Fuik is Marco Poldervaart. Head chefs in the period of the Michelin star were Ton Verhaar (2008-2009) and Ralph Drost (2009-2011).The restaurant is located in a modern building on the banks of the river Oude Maas. Marco and Inez Poldervaart bought the restaurant in June 2011. Sellers were Wim and Odilia Brundel, who had owned the restaurant for 31 years.De Fuik is a member of Alliance Gastronomique Néerlandaise since 1994.

Poederoijen is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of Zaltbommel, and lies about 9 km southeast of Gorinchem. Poederoijen was a separate municipality until 1955, when it was merged with Brakel. Loevestein Castle is located in Poederoijen.

Wijk en Aalburg is a village in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is located in the municipality of Altena, about 15 km northwest of 's-Hertogenbosch.

The Heusden Canal (Dutch: Heusdensch Kanaal) is a canal on the border of the Dutch provinces North Brabant and Gelderland, roughly between Wijk en Aalburg and Heusden. The canal connects the Afgedamde Maas and Bergse Maas and has a total length of approximately 2.3 km. The canal used to connect the city of Heusden to the main branch of the river Meuse. Later on, the original main branch was closed off (Afgedamde Maas) and the river received a new, artificial mouth: the Bergse Maas. After that, the Heusden Canal was improved to maintain a shipping connection between the two Meuse branches. On the Bergsche Maas end, there is a lock named the Kromme Nolkering, and also the only bridge across the canal; it is part of the N831.The improvement of the canal was required under the Maasmondwet ("Maas Mouth Act") of 26 January 26, 1883.

Zuilichem is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of Zaltbommel, and lies about 11 km east of Gorinchem. Zuilichem was a separate municipality until 1955, when it was merged with Brakel.The seventeenth-century Dutch diplomat and polymath Constantijn Huygens purchased the manor and title of Zuilichem in 1630, which passed over to his first son Constantijn Huygens after his death.

Genderen is a village in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is located in the municipality of Altena. The village was first mentioned in the late-11th century Ganderon, and means "settlement on the Gander River". Genderen is a stretch out village which developed in the Middle Ages along the Bergse Maas and was part of the Land van Altena.The Dutch Reformed church dated from the 13th century, but was destroyed in 1944 during World War II. It was rebuilt in 1953, but the tower was constructed from the ruins of the medieval church.Genderen was home to 499 people in 1840. Genderen was a separate municipality until 1923, when it was merged with Eethen. Before 1908, the name of the municipality was Heesbeen, Eethen en Genderen.

Brakel is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. Since 1999, it is a part of the municipality of Zaltbommel, about eight kilometres east of Gorinchem.

Heusden Castle is a ruined major castle in Heusden.

Herwijnen is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of West Betuwe, and lies about 11 km east of Gorinchem. Herwijnen was a separate municipality until 1986, when it was merged with Vuren, Asperen, Heukelum and Spijk as municipality of Lingewaal. Since 2019 Lingewaal merged with Geldermalsen and Neerijnen in the new municipality of West Betuwe.
