Yorkville, Illinois

Ament Corners is an unincorporated community in Kendall County, in the U.S. state of Illinois.The community was first settled in the early 1830s by the Ament brothers, and named for them.

Kendall County is a county in the U.S. state of Illinois, within the Chicago metropolitan area. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 131,869. Its county seat is Yorkville, and its most populous municipality is Oswego. Kendall County is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and was the fastest-growing county in the United States between 2000 and 2010.

Kendall Township is located in Kendall County, Illinois. As of the 2010 census, its population was 7,739 and it contained 2,875 housing units.Kendall Township was named after the county, which was named after Amos Kendall, a powerful Democratic politician in the Andrew Jackson administration. Kendall later became a business partner of Samuel F.B. Morse, inventor of the Morse Code and the electric telegraph, and made his fortune with Morse. Yorkville's division amongst Bristol and Kendall Townships mirrors the fact that, until the 1950s, The City of Yorkville was situated along the south bank of the Fox River, while the Village of Bristol was situated to the north. When the communities consolidated to form the United City of Yorkville (16 Apr 1957), a small community in Bristol Township, named "Bristol Station", was allowed to become the new Bristol, Illinois (unincorporated).

WKBM (930 kHz) is an AM radio station broadcasting a Catholic talk and teaching radio format. It is licensed to Sandwich, Illinois, and largely simulcasts with sister station WNTD 950 AM Chicago. They are owned by Relevant Radio, based in Green Bay, Wisconsin.By day, WKBM is powered at 2,500 watts. At night, it increases power to 4,500 watts. To protect other stations on 930 AM from interference, it uses a directional antenna with a five-tower array. The transmitter is on Legion Road at Immanuel Road in Yorkville, Illinois. Programming is also heard on 34-watt FM translator W256DU at 99.1 MHz in Cloverdale, Illinois.

The Glen D. Palmer Dam is a 6-foot-high (1.8 m) dam across the Fox River in Yorkville, Illinois, about 35.9 miles (58.2 km) upstream from the confluence with the Illinois River, and 940 feet (366 m) upstream from the Route-47 bridge. The dam is named after the original manager of the State Game Farm, formerly located in Yorkville.There has been a dam at this site since the early 19th century. Kendall County was established on February 19, 1841 and the government township (37 North, Range, 7 East) plat was signed on August 25, 1842. Labeled on this plat are: "Howe's Mill Dam" and a sawmill on the south side of the river. Surveys taken in 1837 and 1838, show there was a dam across the Fox River at Yorkville as part of a mill, near the present dam location. Records indicate that the Yorkville mill buildings were destroyed by fire. In 1915 an old "wood crib" dam existed across the Fox River, with a head-race on the south side of the river. It collapsed subsequent to a Spring flood. Its ruins remained submerged and decomposing, until such time as the current dam was built in 1962, as a part of the Stratton project dam system which was designed to keep the river navigable from the Wisconsin border to the confluence with the Illinois River. The original dam had a modified ogee crest and a spillway length of 530 ft (160 m), which created turbulence at the base of the dam. As a result, there were a number of fatal accidents caused when kayakers or canoers sailed over the dam, and at least 26 people have drowned at the dam.In 2006, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources started to renovate the dam changing the shape of the spillway and adding a fish ladder and an 1,100-foot-long (340 m) fish/ canoe bypass channel. The project was completed in 2010. This project was the first Denil style ladder in the State of Illinois.

The Kendall County Courthouse is a former courthouse in Yorkville, Kendall County, Illinois, United States. The original building was completed in 1864 but was later destroyed by fire. A replica of the Italianate structure was erected in 1887. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.

Bristol Congregational Church, also known as the Chapel on the Green, is a historic church located at 107 W. Center Street in Yorkville, Illinois. The Congregational church was built in 1855 for a congregation which formed in the 1830s. The church's design came from a pattern book and includes elements of both the Greek Revival and Carpenter Gothic styles. The church's structure, which includes a bell tower, pediment, and symmetrical windows, is typical of Greek Revival churches. Its Carpenter Gothic elements are mainly decorative and include ornamental wooden trim and a finial. The church is the only remaining 19th-century church in Yorkville and its oldest non-residential building of any sort.The church was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 6, 2016.

Yorkville High School, or YHS, is a public high school located in Yorkville, Illinois, a western suburb of Chicago, in the United States. It serves grades 9-12 for the Yorkville Community Unit School District 115. The school serves Yorkville, Bristol, Montgomery, Oswego, and Plano.

Bristol, Illinois, is an unincorporated community in Bristol Township, Kendall County in the U.S. state of Illinois, just south of the Kane County border. Oswego lies to its east, Montgomery lies to its north, and Yorkville lies to its south and west.

Bristol Township is the smallest township in Kendall County, Illinois. As of the 2010 census, its population was 26,230 and it contained 9,229 housing units.

Fox is an unincorporated community in Kendall County, in the U.S. state of Illinois. It is located between the Village of Millbrook and the City of Yorkville. The community was originally named Fox Station due to its relationship with the Chicago, Burlington, & Quincy Railroad. It served the local farming community by providing a school, grain elevator, feed mill, store and post office.
