Sandwich City Hall, which is also known as the Sandwich City Hall & Opera House, is the government center for the city of Sandwich, Illinois, in DeKalb County. The first floor of the building is occupied by city government while the second floor of the historic building houses an active opera house. Sandwich City Hall & Opera House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been since 1979.

The von KleinSmid Mansion was built for the von KleinSmid family of the DeKalb County city of Sandwich, Illinois in the mid-nineteenth century. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. The building is located on Sandwich's West Center Street, and is under private ownership.It was the childhood home of Rufus B. von KleinSmid, former President and Chancellor of the University of Southern California, and a passionate supporter of eugenics.

Sandwich Community Unit School District #430 is a school district headquartered in Sandwich, Illinois, United States.

Sandwich Community High School is a public four-year secondary education school located in Sandwich, Illinois, about 60 miles from Chicago. The high school is part of Sandwich Community Unit School District 430. The school is a member of the Interstate Eight Conference, and the school participates in Baseball, Softball, Volleyball, Cross Country, Soccer, Golf, Boys/Girls Basketball, Wrestling, Boys/Girls Track & Field, Fishing, Swimming and Diving, Doing It, Scholastic Bowl, and all music-related competitions. The high school is currently a class 4A school in Football, while competing as class A or B in other events due to its enrollment size.

Sandwich Township is one of nineteen townships in DeKalb County, Illinois, United States. As of the 2020 census, its population was 7,510 and it contained 3,017 housing units. Sandwich Township was formed from a portion of Somonauk Township on July 14, 1896.

Lake Holiday is a census-designated place located on Lake Holiday in Northville Township, LaSalle County, Illinois, United States. Its population was 5,687 as of the 2020 census. The homes on the western banks of the lake are served by the Somonauk Fire Department/EMS and the Somonauk School District, while the eastern banks of the lake are covered by Sandwich municipal services (Fire/EMS, CUSD 430). However, due to the community's location south of the LaSalle-DeKalb county line, neither Sandwich Police nor Somonauk Police have any jurisdiction. Instead, the area is patrolled by local security, which has limited authority. For serious matters, the community is covered by the LaSalle County Sheriff's Department, which has a substation in the Northville Township Building, a few miles to the south of Lake Holiday.The Lake Holiday CDP includes the neighborhoods surrounding Lake Holiday as well as neighboring Wildwood, which sits to the east of County Highway 3. Lake Holiday was created in the mid-1960s as a lake resort community, with its property owners association being incorporated on July 2, 1965. Wildwood was created around the same time, as a modular home community just across the highway. Starting in the early 1990s, an annex to Wildwood known as "Wildwood South" or "New Wildwood" was created, with completion around 2002. Both subdivisions share a gas station and a small retail area, with a restaurant having been built in 2006-2007 farther north, just south of the county line. Lake Holiday was created by damming up Somonauk Creek in 1965, on its path south toward its confluence with the Fox River just north of Sheridan.

WDYS (1480 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station broadcasting a soft oldies and adult standards format. Licensed to Somonauk, Illinois, it serves DeKalb County and the Fox Valley, suburbs west of Chicago. It is owned by Nelson Multimedia Inc., with programming coming from Westwood One's "America's Best Music" service. WDYS is powered at 250 watts by day, and only 10 watts at night. Programming is also heard on 250-watt FM translator W268DB at 101.5 MHz, licensed to Yorkville. The studios and transmitter are on Frazier Road in Plano.

Somonauk is a village in DeKalb and LaSalle Counties in the U.S. state of Illinois. The population was 1,786 at the 2020 Census, down from 1,893 at the 2010 Census. The DeKalb County portion of Somonauk is part of the Chicago-Naperville-Elgin, IL-IN-WI Metropolitan Statistical Area, while the small portion that lies in LaSalle County is part of the Ottawa, IL Micropolitan Statistical Area.

Plano High School is a public high school in Plano, Illinois, serving students in grades 9–12. The school is part of the Plano Community Unit School District #88. This school had an average ACT score of 18.8 in 2013, and had 44 percent of students meeting or exceeding standards on the PSAE.As of the 2011–2012 school year, the school had an enrollment of 619 students and 44.66 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student-teacher ratio of 1:13.86.Plano High school was the filming location of the music video of Lil Skies' and Landon Cube's hit single, "Nowadays", shot and filmed by Cole Bennett.

Little Rock Township occupies the 6-mile (9.7 km) square (with the southeast corner nipped off by the Fox River) in Kendall County, Illinois. As of the 2010 census, its population was 13,076 and it contained 4,723 housing units. Little Rock is named after Little Rock Creek, which flows through the township. The largest settlement in the township is the city of Plano, from where the township is administered.

Plano station, also known as the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad Depot is an Amtrak intercity train station in Plano, Illinois, United States. The station was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on November 12, 1993. Currently, four Amtrak trains stop at Plano per day. These serves are the Illinois Zephyr and the Carl Sandburg. The Illinois Zephyr stops in the morning (to Chicago Union Station) and in the evening (to Quincy). The Carl Sandburg stops in the morning (to Quincy) and the evening (to Chicago). The Southwest Chief and California Zephyr pass through the station but do not stop. Metra is exploring extending the BNSF Railway Line to Sandwich, Illinois in the future, and originally proposed the Plano Amtrak station as one of the stops on the proposed extension. However, the proposed station location was changed to near Little Rock road in Plano's city limits, over 1 mile west of the current station.
