Cumberland Race Track

The Allegany County Fairgrounds is located just west of Cumberland, Maryland along McMullen Highway. Throughout the year the fairground holds musical concerts, car races, and private events. Once annually the Allegany County fair is held on the grounds, called the Allegany County Fair and AgExpo. As of 2006, the annual fair is an 8-day event customarily in the middle of July. Another major event is DelFest, a 4-day bluegrass festival originated by Del McCoury, and held annually since 2008 over the Memorial Day weekend. Neither of the above events were held in 2020.

Potomac Park (listen ) is an unincorporated subdivision and census-designated place (CDP) located on the North Branch Potomac River in Allegany County, Maryland, United States. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 2,530. Potomac Park lies along U.S. Route 220 (McMullen Highway) between Cresaptown and Cumberland. The CDP of Bowling Green is immediately to the north on Route 220. Within the boundaries of the community are the Allegany County Fairgrounds and the Western Correctional Institution.

Bowling Green is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Allegany County, Maryland, United States. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 1,077.It is located along U.S. Route 220 (McMullen Highway), directly southwest of the city of Cumberland and includes the former community of Roberts. The CDP of Potomac Park borders Bowling Green to the south, the Potomac River is to the east and Haystack Mountain is to the west. For many years, the community was mostly farmland but was later divided into building lots by the Buchanan, Roberts and Long families. CSX Transportation railroad tracks skirt the community along the river; in earlier years, a predecessor maintained the Roberts train station, which has since been closed. The Upper Potomac Industrial Park is located in the northern part of the community, close to Cumberland.

The Western Correctional Institution is a maximum security state prison for men located in Cumberland, Allegany County, Maryland. It opened in 1996 and has an official capacity of 1793.Western Correctional Institution is close to two other correctional facilities: the high-tech "hyper max" North Branch Correctional Institution first opened as an extension of Western which, later was officially separated in 2003, and the Allegany County Detention Center. A third prison, the Federal Correctional Institution, Cumberland, is located in the same county.

Wiley Ford is a census-designated place (CDP) in Mineral County, West Virginia, United States and part of the 'Cumberland, MD-WV Metropolitan Statistical Area'. The population was 1,026 at the 2010 census.The community was named after Mr. Wiley, who settled at a nearby ford.

Carpendale is a town in Mineral County, West Virginia, United States, and part of the Cumberland, MD-WV Metropolitan Statistical Area'. The population was 861 at the 2020 census. Carpendale was incorporated on January 2, 1990, by the Circuit Court. The town is a combination of three subdivisions of which its name reflects: Carpenters Addition, Millerdale I, and Millerdale II. There are no stores in Carpendale and there is only one road in and out of the town.

A Metropolitan Statistical Area represents a regional economy of closely tied cities, towns, and surrounding rural areas with a high degree of social, geographic, and economic integration; and a total combined regional population of 50,000 or more. Metro Statistical Areas are named after the primary city and states within the area. As of 2000, The City of Cumberland had a population of 21,591 and the surrounding area had a population of 102,008. Allegany and Mineral are mountainous, mostly rural areas. According to the 2000 census, more than 45 percent of the people living in the Cumberland region live in rural and non-incorporated areas. The Cumberland Metropolitan Area is geographically isolated by a range of ridges and valleys from the rest of Maryland which is relatively flat. These mountain ranges form adjacent valleys which have served to collect and integrate the regional cities and towns together into urbanized channels that follow the valleys northeasterly. This has served to give the area a unique sense of identity and economic integration. The median household income for the MSA was $30,916 and the average household income was $39,021. The Cumberland, MD-WV Metropolitan Statistical Area is one of the poorest in the United States, ranking 305th out of 318 metropolitan areas in per capita income.

Haystack Mountain is a mountain ridge in the Ridge and Valley region of the Appalachian Mountains, located in western Maryland just west of the city of Cumberland. The mountain forms the southern wall of the Cumberland Narrows.
