Ōreti River

Teretonga (means "Swift South" in Maori) is a 2.570 km (1.597 mi) motor racing circuit situated 8 km (5.0 mi) south-west of Invercargill, New Zealand. It is home of the Southland Sports Car Club. The circuit was established in 1957 and is the southernmost FIA-recognised race track in the world (the Autódromo Carlos Romero in Tolhuin, Tierra del Fuego (Argentina) is further south but is not FIA recognised). It is also the country's oldest purpose-built venue. Regular racing programme includes rounds of the local Clubmans Series; featuring rounds of South Island Racing Registers and a very large Classic Car meeting in February of each year. The circuit is also used for Sprints and Motorkhanas. Other clubs run Motor Cycle and Drag Races at Teretonga. Regarded by many drivers as the best and safest track in the country, it has been up-graded on a continual basis.

The Invercargill Golf Club is a golf club in Southland, New Zealand, located on Dunns Road in Otatara, near Invercargill. In 1960 Invercargill Golf Club hosted the New Zealand Open which was won by Peter Thomson. It is also the permanent hosts of the SBS Invitational.

Otatara is an outer suburb of New Zealand's southernmost city, Invercargill. It is surrounded by the Ōreti River to the west and south, and its estuary and Invercargill Airport to the east, and West Plains to the north. Historically, it was in Southland County before it was abolished. The main thoroughfare in Otatara is Dunns Road, which continues westward across the Ōreti River bridge to road's end at Oreti Beach, towards Invercargill it becomes Stead Street at the old city/county boundary, passing between the estuary and the airport before crossing the Waihopai River bridge into the city proper. There are several local bush walks through tōtara forests, and numerous recreational facilities in the area including MTB tracks, rowing, speed boating, two golf courses and the nearby Oreti Beach. The New Zealand Ministry for Culture and Heritage gives a translation of "place of loosening" for Ōtātara.

Invercargill Airport (IATA: IVC, ICAO: NZNV) is a fully secured controlled international designated airport located 1.6 km (one mile) west of the Central business district of Invercargill at the bottom of the South Island of New Zealand. It is the southernmost controlled airport in the Commonwealth. Formed on land reclaimed from the Waihopai/New River Estuary in 1938, the airport was prone to flooding, notably in 1984 when it was inoperable for two months. The Invercargill City Council considered moving the airport back to Dawson Farm, Myross Bush, the original site up to 1942. Instead, a large flood protection scheme was built, but during its construction heavy rain and an unusually high tidal surge flooded it again in 1987. There have been no problems since. The airport has a main secured terminal, a backup international secured terminal and 5 tarmac gates. Invercargill is the eleventh-busiest airport in New Zealand by passenger traffic.

The Waihopai River — the more southerly of two New Zealand rivers of that name — runs through the South Island's Southland Region. A narrow stream for much of its 40-kilometre (25 mi) length, it has its source in several streams arising in low hill country between Edendale and Dacre, all of which run generally west-southwest, passing through or close to the township of Woodlands. These streams gradually merge, becoming one river some 15 kilometres (9 mi) east of Invercargill. The Waihopai runs west from this point, passing through the northern suburbs of Invercargill City and then turns south, running between Invercargill's built-up area and Invercargill Airport, before flowing into the northern end of the New River Estuary at Stead Street Bridge. The river lends its name to the Maori name for Invercargill, Waihōpai.

Greenhills is a suburb of New Zealand's southernmost city, Invercargill. A quaint but sturdy community with a lush grasslands and home of the "THREE SISTERS". landmark of three mountains visible from Invercargill and surrounding lands.

West Invercargill is a suburb of New Zealand's southernmost city, Invercargill. The population was 126 in the 2013 census. This was a decrease of 54 people since the 2006 Census.

Kew is a suburb in the New Zealand city of Invercargill. The suburb has a high rate of deprivation, dating back to the closure of the Ocean Beach freezing works in Bluff in 1991.Southland Hospital is located in Kew. The hospital was first proposed in 1918 and completed in 1937. It was known as Kew Hospital until at least the 1970s.The Kew Bowl, a former valedrome, is located in Kew. It has been earmarked for housing development since its closure. Habitat for Humanity purchased part of the site in 2019. It held negotiations with Invercargill City Council, the Department of Conservation and Ngāi Tahu in 2021, to confirm the status of the land.

Southland Hospital is the main public hospital in Invercargill, New Zealand. It serves as the major base hospital for the Otago and Southland regions with a population catchment of around 130,000.

Kingswell is a suburb in the New Zealand city of Invercargill. The suburb has had a high rate of deprivation since the closure of the Ocean Beach freezing works in 1991.

Appleby is a suburb of New Zealand's southernmost city, Invercargill. The suburb includes Appleby Park.

Invercargill Central is the central business district and central suburb of Invercargill, in the Southland region of the South Island of New Zealand. It has an estimated population of 1,510 as of June 2023. Invercargill Central is the only area in Southland to contain commercial high rise buildings, which are the most southerly tall buildings in the world.
