West Side of Stamford

Glenbrook is a section (or neighborhood) of the city of Stamford, Connecticut. It is located on the eastern side of the city, east of Downtown, north of the East Side and the Cove sections and south of the Springdale section. To the west is Downtown Stamford and to the northwest is Belltown. To the east is Darien. An estimated 15,400 people live in the neighborhood of about 1.7 square miles (4.4 km2). "Many residents see themselves as living not in a bustling city, but in a separate small town," according to a New York Times article about the community.Glenbrook is a middle class section of town, with single-family homes making up 65 percent of housing and about 25 percent condominiums or co-ops. Residential architecture ranges from Queen Anne style homes to Colonial style, Cape Cod and ranches. Some public housing developments are in the southern end of the neighborhood. In August 2007, scenes for College Road Trip, a Walt Disney film released in 2008, were shot on location in one of the Queen Anne style homes of Glenbrook. There are several retail sections, including the Glenbrook Center shopping plaza, as well as an industrial park. The neighborhood also has several churches. The Julia A. Stark School and Dolan Middle School, both part of Stamford Public Schools are in Glenbrook.

The episcopal see is Stamford, Connecticut, where the cathedra is found in St. Volodymyr Cathedral. The diocese publishes The Sower, a monthly newsletter with articles written in both English and Ukrainian, from its offices in Stamford. The Eparchy of Stamford is a suffragan eparchy in the ecclesiastical province of the metropolitan Archeparchy of Philadelphia.

St. Vladimir's Cathedral is a Ukrainian Catholic cathedral located in Stamford, Connecticut. It is the seat for the Eparchy of Stamford. The parish was established in 1916, and the simple brick Romanesque Revival-inspired church building was completed in 1957.

St Maurice is a Roman Catholic church in Stamford, Connecticut, part of the Diocese of Bridgeport.

The Zion Lutheran Church is a historic Lutheran church building at 132 Glenbrook Road in Stamford, Connecticut. The red brick Gothic Revival structure was built in 1925 by a German immigrant congregation founded in 1897. It is the city's only red brick church. The main facade is dominated by a square tower on the right, which rises only to the height of the roof gable on the left. The gable stands above a large quadruple window set in a slightly pointed arch, which stands above the main entrance, which is recessed in an arched opening.The property was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

Stamford High School is a high school, founded in 1873, in Stamford, Connecticut. It is one of three public high schools in the Stamford Public Schools district, along with Westhill High School and AITE (Academy of Information Technology & Engineering).

Sacred Heart Academy was a regional, female-only Catholic school for grades 9–12, founded in 1922 under the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bridgeport. It was located at 200 Strawberry Hill Avenue in Stamford, Connecticut and served parts of Fairfield County, Connecticut and Westchester County, New York. It closed in 2006 due to "declining enrollment and financial difficulties."

The C. J. Starr Barn and Carriage House is an historic estate outbuilding, located on the grounds of the former Sacred Heart Academy on Strawberry Hill Road in Stamford, Connecticut. It is a large 1+1⁄2-story wood-frame structure with elegant Italianate scrolled woodwork on the exterior, with a smaller barn joined to a larger building that originally functioned as a carriage house. They were built c. 1860 by C. J. Starr has part of a larger country estate, of which these are the only surviving buildings. The estate was given to the Sacred Heart Academy, which has done sensitive restoration of the exterior of the structure; its interior has been converted into a gymnasium and other facilities.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 14, 1979.

The Octagon House was a historic house at 120 Strawberry Hill Avenue, on the edge of the Glenbrook section of Stamford, Connecticut. It was one of a number of octagon houses in the United States, built during a fad in buildings of that shape from the late 1840s to the 1870s. The octagonal portion of the house was concrete, with external scoring to imitate ashlar. The use of concrete as a building material was also promoted by Orson Squire Fowler, the primary mover behind the octagon house fad.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. It was destroyed by fire in 1985.
