Bruchsal

Bruchsal was a district (Kreis) in the administrative region of Nordbaden in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. To the district belonged 5 cities and 33 towns. The town of Bruchsal was the seat of the district and the license plate code was BR. Bruchsal district was dissolved as a result of the district reform effective January 1, 1973 when it was merged into the district of Karlsruhe.

Bruchsal Palace (Schloss Bruchsal), also called the Damiansburg, is a Baroque palace complex located in Bruchsal, Germany. The complex is made up of over 50 buildings. These include a three-winged residential building with an attached chapel, four pavilions separated by a road, some smaller utility buildings, and a garden. It is noted for its fine Roccoco decoration and in particular its entrance staircase, which is regarded as one of the finest examples of its kind in any Baroque palace. The palace was built in the first half of the 18th century by Damian Hugo Philipp von Schönborn, Prince-Bishop of Speyer. Schönborn drew on family connections to recruit building staff and experts in the Baroque style, most notably Balthasar Neumann. Although intended to be the permanent residence of the Prince-Bishops, they occupied it for less than a century. On 1 March 1945, only two months before the end of the Second World War, much of the palace was destroyed in an American air raid directed against nearby railway installations. It has since been completely rebuilt in a restoration project that lasted until 1996. The interiors have been partly restored and the palace now houses two museums.

St. Paulusheim is an independent Gymnasium in Bruchsal, Germany with sponsorship of the school foundation of the archdiocese of Freiburg. It was founded by the Pallottines, originally as a boys' boarding school. Paulusheim is rooted in a boarding school of the small Italian community of Masio near Alessandria. In 1915, Pallottines had to leave Masio because of the war. So they came to Bruchsal, the former homeland of the headteacher. After temporary accommodation in an inn, they moved into a new purpose-built building on the cloister hill in Bruchsal. During World War II, the nazis shut down the school for some time. However, it was the first school of Northern Baden to continue teaching. As there were not enough boarding school pupils, the boarding school was closed in the 80s, but the day school has been continued and expanded. Today approx. 750 Catholic and Protestant pupils attend this school. It offers a new and old language stream covering Latin, English, French and Ancient Greek. Spanish and Chinese are offered in extracurricular classes.

Bruchsal Rollenberg junction is a complex flying junction at the intersection of Mannheim–Stuttgart high-speed railway with the Heidelberg–Karlsruhe line and is located between Bruchsal and Ubstadt in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. The Ubstadt connecting curve (German: Verbindungskurve Ubstadt) branches off the line from Heidelberg in the northwest at Ubstadt-Weiher junction. The Bruchsal connecting curve (Verbindungskurve Bruchsal) branches off the line from Bruchsal and Karlsruhe in the southwest at Bruchsal Nord junction.

Forst is a municipality in the district of Karlsruhe in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is located on Bertha Benz Memorial Route 2 km north of Bruchsal and shares a direct border with that city.

Ubstadt-Weiher is a municipality in northern Karlsruhe district in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is located on Bertha Benz Memorial Route. The four villages that make up the municipality are (in order of size): Ubstadt, Weiher, Zeutern, and Stettfeld. The area in between and around these villages is numbered with grape vineyards. There are many wineries found in these villages.

The Michelsberg culture (German: Michelsberger Kultur (MK)) is an important Neolithic culture in Central Europe. Its dates are c. 4400–3500 BC. Its conventional name is derived from that of an important excavated site on Michelsberg (short for Michaelsberg) hill near Untergrombach, between Karlsruhe and Heidelberg (Baden-Württemberg). The Michelsberg culture belongs to the Central European Late Neolithic. Its distribution covered much of West Central Europe, along both sides of the Rhine. A detailed chronology, based on pottery, was produced in the 1960s by the German archaeologist Jens Lüning.

The Michaelsberg is a hill at Untergrombach near Bruchsal in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. A Neolithic settlement has been excavated at the top. It is the type site for the Michelsberg culture.
