Colebrook, Connecticut

The Colebrook Center Historic District encompasses the town center of Colebrook, Connecticut. Located in an isolated valley at the junction of Connecticut Route 183 with Rockwell and Smith Hill Roads, the village was established in 1767, and has seen little change since about 1860. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

The Colebrook Store is a historic commercial building at 559 Colebrook Road in the village center of Colebrook, Connecticut. Built in 1812, it has operated as a local general store since then, and is an architectural landmark for its two-story temple front. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

Camp Rising Sun in Colebrook, Connecticut, is a non-profit overnight camp for children with cancer that is held for one week during the summer and one weekend in the winter. The camp, which is staffed by volunteer counselors, does not charge campers to attend. It is staffed by a volunteer medical staff, including Dr. Joe McNamara, a pediatric oncologist and an associate clinical professor of pediatrics at the Yale University School of Medicine.

Algonquin State Forest is a Connecticut state forest located in the towns of Colebrook and Winchester. The forest is managed for wildlife habitat and passive recreational activities. It contains two areas of special ecological importance: Sandy Brook Natural Area Preserve and Kitchel Wilderness Natural Area Preserve, the later donated by Helen Binney Kitchel in 1961, both protected as Forever Wild by state statute. The forest offers opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing, and letterboxing.

The Phelps Farm Historic District encompasses a collection of farm and residential properties on Connecticut Route 183 and Prock Hill Road in Colebrook, Connecticut. This area is a virtually intact mid-19th century farmstead, with its land under a single family's ownership since the 18th century. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

The Arah Phelps Inn is a historic house and traveler accommodation at Prock Hill Road and Connecticut Route 183 in Colebrook, Connecticut. Built in 1787, it is one Colebrook's oldest surviving buildings, and served as a fixture on the main Hartford-Albany stagecoach route for many years. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. It is now a private residence.

Rock Hall is a circa 1912 Tudor Revival house at 19 Rock Hall Road in Colebrook, Connecticut. The 10,000-square-foot (930 m2) building was designed by the architect Addison Mizner of Palm Beach, Florida, originally as a home for Jerome Alexandre and his wife Violet Adelaide Oakley. It is reportedly Mizner's only surviving work in the northern United States, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010. It is now a hotel.

The Braman Camp is a historic private summer property on Inner Road, overlooking Doolittle Lake in Norfolk, Connecticut. The camp consists of a cottage built in 1928 to a design by Alfredo S.G. Taylor. The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982 for its association with Taylor, a prominent Norfolk architect.

The Gilbert School is a privately endowed secondary school that serves as the public high school for the towns of Winchester and Hartland, Connecticut and the public middle school for Winchester. The Gilbert School serves grades 7-12. The school was founded in 1895 as the result of the bequest of William L. Gilbert who, in his will, made provision for the “establishment and maintenance of an institution of learning to be known as The Gilbert School.”

The Starling Childs Camp is a historic cottage on the south shore of Doolittle Lake in Norfolk, Connecticut. Built in 1923, it is significant as an idiosyncratic design of architect Alfredo S.G. Taylor. It was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1982, for its association with the architect.

The Francis Benedict Jr. House, or Benedict–Smith House, is a historic house at 85 North Colebrook Road in Norfolk, Connecticut. Erected sometime between about 1795 and 1811, it is a high-quality example of late Colonial and early Federal architecture, and a well-preserved surviving example of the town's early architecture. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

The Union Church/St. Paul's Church is a historic church building at 3 Robertsville Road in the Riverton section of Barkhamsted, Connecticut. Built in 1829 to be shared by multiple congregations, it is an architecturally distinguished example of Greek Revival design with Gothic features. It became an Episcopal church in 1880 which closed in 1971, and served for a time as a local history museum. It now houses a glass-blowing studio. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
