Grossmont High School is a public high school located in Eastern San Diego County, California. Opened in 1920, it is the oldest public high school in East County and the first of twelve high schools currently in the Grossmont Union High School District. The school has an approximate enrollment of 2,800 students.Grossmont High School has been accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) since 1962. The current accreditation is valid through 2020. Grossmont High School was recognized as being a California Distinguished School for the scholastic year of 2008–2009. Its mascot is the Foothiller, so chosen because at the time of the school's construction, east county was much more isolated from the rest of San Diego than it is today and was often referred to as the boondocks or the foothills.

El Granito Springs was a natural spring in the vicinity of present-day La Mesa in eastern San Diego County, California, United States. The springs were named for their location in a granite outcropping near the San Diego River.

Eucalyptus County Park is a 6.45-acre (2.61 ha) urban park located at 9125 Edgewood Drive in Spring Valley, California, United States.Named for the many eucalyptus trees on the property, the park frequently hosts birthday parties, horseshoes tournaments, BBQ grills, neighborhood children, dogs on leash, birdwatchers, a pair of hawks, and, often, artists painting the park itself. Eucalyptus County Park is managed and maintained by the Parks and Recreation Department of the County of San Diego. The park's site is one of the oldest in the eastern San Diego County dedicated to public recreational use.

The Grossmont–Cuyamaca Community College District is a California community college district comprising two colleges, Grossmont College and Cuyamaca College that serve about 28,000 students a year. Grossmont College is located in El Cajon, California and Cuyamaca College is located in Rancho San Diego, California, and primarily serves East San Diego and East County communities.

Monte Vista High School is public, comprehensive high school located in Spring Valley, California, and serves 1,960 students in grades nine through twelve. Opened in 1961, Monte Vista is the seventh of twelve high schools built in the Grossmont Union High School District. Monte Vista High School has been ranked among the top 6000 schools in the nation, coming in at #1147, due in part to its excellent record for AP testing and its steadily increasing Annual Performance Index. Monte Vista has one of the best AP programs in the Grossmont Union District.

Spring Valley is a census-designated place (CDP) in the East County region of San Diego County, California. The population was 28,205 at the 2010 census. From 1970 through 1990, Spring Valley included what is now the La Presa CDP to the south; La Presa is still popularly considered to be a part of Spring Valley. Extended definitions of Spring Valley may also include the Casa de Oro neighborhood to the north, which belongs to the Casa de Oro-Mount Helix CDP. The Hubert H. Bancroft Ranch House is a historic house museum at 9050 Memory Lane in Spring Valley, California. Built in 1856, it is the oldest Anglo-American building in the town. From 1885 until his death in 1918, it was home to Hubert Howe Bancroft, a pioneering historian of the western United States, Mexico, and Central America. Now managed by the local historical society as a museum, it was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1962 for its association with Bancroft, and was registered as a California Historical Landmark in 1958.

The Grossmont Union High School District (GUHSD) is a public school district located in eastern San Diego County, California, and serves high school, adult school, and Regional Occupational Program (ROP) students in the cities of El Cajon, Lemon Grove, and Santee; the unincorporated communities of Alpine, Casa de Oro, Crest, Dehesa, Dulzura, Jamul, Lakeside, Mount Helix, Rancho San Diego, and Spring Valley; most of La Mesa, and parts of San Diego. Formed in June 1920, the union high school district is overseen by a five-member governing board and operates 13 high schools (nine regular, three charter, and one continuation); a regional occupational program (ROP); and special education and adult education services. The day-to-day operations are managed by the superintendent, who is appointed by the board. The Grossmont Union High School District utilizes a strategic plan that includes a mission statement, district guidelines, core values, and annual goals and objectives. The district's schools are accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Four of the district's high schools—Helix, Mount Miguel, Santana, and Valhalla (twice)—have been recognized as a California Distinguished School by the California Department of Education. In March 2001, the district and two of its high schools—Santana and Granite Hills—made nationwide headlines in the US when, in a span of seventeen days, a total of two students were killed and twenty students and two teachers were wounded when two students, in separate incidents, opened fire at their schools.
