The Snaith School is a coeducational secondary school with academy status, located in Snaith in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The school was founded in 1899. As of 2014 the school had a pupil count of 910. Also as of the 2014 ofsted report the school was rated: Good. the Percentage of pupils who attained five GCSEs grade A* to C including English and mathematics in 2014 was 66%.

Hirst Courtney is a village and civil parish in the Selby District of North Yorkshire, England. The name derives from Old English Hyrst (wooded hill) and possession by the Courtney family in the thirteenth century. In 1825 the population was 144, in 23 households. In 2011 the population was 287. The village was historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire until 1974.The village formally had a public house called the Royal Oak Inn. It closed in 2015. In November 2022, an application to demolished the pub and replaced it with housing was approved after previously being rejected by Selby District Council in April.Until 2014, Hirst Courtney shared a community primary school with neighbouring village Temple Hirst. In 2012 the school received a requires improvement rating from Ofsted. In November 2013, the school had less than 14 pupils enrolled, a decrease from the previous inspection when there was 26. The school closed on 22 April 2014, and the remaining pupils were transferred to Chapel Haddlesey CE VC School.In February 2020, parts of the village were evacuated during flooding from the River Aire.

According to the 2011 UK census, Pollington parish had a population of 966, an increase on the 2001 UK census figure of 939.

Royal Air Force Snaith or RAF Snaith is a former Royal Air Force station which was located 7 miles (11 km) south west of Goole, Yorkshire, England and close to the village of Pollington. The airfield opened 1941 before closing in 1946.

Snaith Priory was a Benedictine priory in Snaith, within the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The priory was located at the Church of St Lawrence in Snaith, which has been a Grade I listed building since 1967. It was founded shortly after 1101, and dissolved in 1539.

Snaith railway station is a railway station that serves the market town of Snaith in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is located 26 miles (42 km) east of Leeds railway station on the Pontefract Line, between Knottingley and Goole. The former five trains each way per day service of the late 1980s (see British Rail National Passenger Timetables from May 1988–90) was cut in half in 1991 (due to shortage of rolling stock) and again in 2004, leaving only a residual "Parliamentary" minimum timetable in operation east of Knottingley to avoid the need for statutory closure proceedings - a situation that remains unchanged to this day.

Snaith and Cowick is a civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 6 miles (9.7 km) west of the town of Goole and covers an area of 2,406.612 hectares (5,946.87 acres). The civil parish is formed by the town of Snaith and the villages of East Cowick and West Cowick. According to the 2011 UK census, Snaith and Cowick had a population of 3,579, an increase on the 2001 UK census figure of 3,028. The parish was part of the Goole Rural District in the West Riding of Yorkshire from 1894 to 1974, then in Boothferry district of Humberside until 1996.

Carlton is a village and civil parish in southern North Yorkshire, England. The village is situated approximately 5 miles (8 km) south-east of the town of Selby on the A1041 road. The parish had a population of 1,934 at the 2011 Census, an increase from 1,829 at the 2001 Census.Carlton was part of the West Riding of Yorkshire until 1 April 1974, when it became part of the Selby District of the new ceremonial county of North Yorkshire. On 1 April 2023, Selby District was abolished and Carlton became part of the new North Yorkshire unitary authority area. Holy Family Catholic High School is a secondary school located in the village. Carlton Primary School, which was called Carlton-in-Snaith Community Primary School prior to 2020, is also located in the village.

The Selby rail crash (also known as the Great Heck Rail Crash) was a railway accident that occurred on 28 February 2001 near Great Heck, Selby, North Yorkshire when a passenger train collided with a car which had crashed down a motorway embankment onto the railway line. The passenger train then collided with an oncoming freight train. Ten people died, including the drivers of the two trains, and 82 were injured. It remains the worst rail disaster of the 21st century in the United Kingdom. The driver of the car, Gary Hart, was convicted of ten counts of causing death by dangerous driving and sentenced to five years in prison after a jury found that he had fallen asleep while driving. As a result of the crash, Hart's insurers paid out £30 million in claims.

St Mary's Church is an Anglican parish church in Carlton, a village near Selby in North Yorkshire, in England. The first church in Carlton was a wooden chapel of ease to St Laurence's Church, Snaith, built in 1379. In 1861, Carlton was granted its own parish, and work commenced on a new building, completed in 1866. It was designed by J. B. Atkinson, and was partly funded by Isabella Anne Stapleton. It was Grade II listed in 1986. The church is built of sandstone with Welsh slate roofs, and consists of a nave, a south porch, a chancel, a north vestry and a southwest steeple, and is in Gothic Revival style. The steeple has a tower with two stages, angle buttresses, a stair turret, tall two-light bell openings, and an octagonal broach spire with a clock face. There are a variety of two- and three-light pointed windows in the nave and vestry, and single lights and a four-light east window in the chancel. Inside, there is a hammer beam roof in the nave, a trefoil piscina, and some wall memorials, one dating from 1738.
