Gaylordsville, Connecticut

The Merwinsville Hotel is a historic hotel building and former railroad station at 1 Brown's Forge Road in the Gaylordsville village of New Milford, Connecticut. Built in 1842-43, it is one of the oldest hotels built specifically for a railroad stop in the United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

Gaylordsville station is a former train station in Gaylordsville, Connecticut. The station building was built in the 1918, replacing the Merwinsville Hotel as the local depot, to serve passengers on the Housatonic Railroad. Shortly after its closure, the station was purchased by former New York advertising executives, Jean & Cle Kinney. In October 1971, the couple relocated the structure to a nearby hill on River Road and converted it into their own unique and creative home.

The Ten Mile River (Tenmile River on federal maps) is a 15.4-mile-long (24.8 km) river that flows through Dutchess County, New York, into westernmost Connecticut. The river is formed in the town of Amenia, New York, at the confluence of Webatuck Creek and Wassaic Creek. The Ten Mile River runs south through the town of Dover, New York before turning east and crossing into Connecticut, where it forms the boundary between the towns of Kent and Sherman for one-half mile before flowing into the Housatonic River. This is a popular whitewater paddling destination with mostly quickwater and a few whitewater areas reaching up to Class III.

South Kent School, a private all-boys boarding school in South Kent, Connecticut, United States, is located on a 650-acre (2.6 km2) campus in western Litchfield County. It is sited on Spooner Hill east of Bull's Bridge, overlooking the former Housatonic Valley rail-line, Hatch Pond, and the 'whistle-stop' South Kent station, and is itself overlooked by Bull Mountain. The school has an operating budget of approximately $14 million and a staff of less than 100. From its inception, South Kent School was intended to offer a service-oriented education "at minimum cost for boys of ability and character, who presumably on graduation must be self-supporting. " Its motto is "Simplicity of life, Self-reliance, and Directness of purpose".

Bull's Bridge is a single-lane vehicular wooden covered bridge across the Housatonic River in the town of Kent, Connecticut, close to the state border with New York. The first instance of a bridge at this location was constructed by Jacob and Isaac Bull in 1760, which gave the bridge its name. Popular legend suggests that George Washington crossed the bridge with the Bulls' assistance while still under construction. The current bridge was built in 1842 from timber, with additional supports added in the 19th and 20th centuries. Built with a Town lattice design, the bridge has reinforced trusswork visible on the interior. At the time of its nomination to the National Register of Historic Places the roof had wood shingles. It is historically significant as one of three surviving covered bridges in Connecticut, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

Tory Cave (or Tory's Cave) is a marble solutional cave near New Milford, Connecticut.While it is of modest size (the big room having enough space for two dozen people) it is said to be the only true cave in Connecticut. To protect bat colonies, the cave is closed to the public. Its name is based on a tale from the American Revolution, in which a Tory (a loyalist to the English monarchy) hid in the cave. The cave is near the Housatonic River. In 1996, Joe Hurley, writing in the Record Journal, reported that the cave's unique ecology was threatened by blasting from a nearby quarry. The cave is home to a blind shrimp-like amphipod called a Stygobromus.

The Old Boardman Bridge, formerly Boardman Bridge, is a historic lenticular truss bridge, which used to carry Boardman Road across the Housatonic River in New Milford, Connecticut. Built from 1887 to 1888 out of wrought iron, it is one of the state's three surviving examples of this bridge type, and along with Lover's Leap Bridge, one of two in New Milford. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. The bridge was closed to vehicles in 1984 and to pedestrians in 1985; however, the Town of New Milford is seeking to restore it and reopen it to pedestrian traffic.

Sherman is the northernmost and least populous town of Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 3,527 at the 2020 census. The town was formed in 1802 from the northern part of New Fairfield. It is named for Roger Sherman, the only person who signed all four founding documents of the United States of America. He also had a cobblers shop in the north end of town which has been reconstructed behind the Northrup House in the center of town. Sherman has been named "Best Small Town in Connecticut" three times by Connecticut Magazine. The Appalachian Trail goes through the northern end of Sherman. Part of Squantz Pond is in the town. Sherman is a popular weekend retreat for New York City residents, with about a third of its residents weekenders. The town is located 62 miles (100 km) northeast of New York City, making it part of the New York metropolitan area.Sherman has one area on the National Register of Historic Places: the Sherman Historic District, bounded roughly by the intersection of Old Greenswood Road and Route 37, northeast past the intersection of Route 37 East and Route 39 North and Sawmill Road. The district was added to the National Register on August 31, 1991. Sherman is the only town in Fairfield County in the 860 area code; the remainder of the county is served by the area code 203/area code 475 overlay.

The Merryall Union Evangelical Society Chapel (also known as Merryall Union Chapel) is a historic church building on Chapel Hill Road in the Lower Merryall section of New Milford, Connecticut. Built in 1890, it is the town's best example of Carpenter Gothic architecture. It is used in the summertime for services by visiting ministers of diverse denominations, and hosts weddings and other private functions. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

Erickson Corner (also Erickson Corners) is an unincorporated community in the town of New Milford, Litchfield County, Connecticut, United States.

The Sherman Historic District encompasses the historic town center of Sherman, Connecticut. It covers an 85-acre (34 ha) historic district area centered on the junction of Connecticut Routes 37 and 39, and consists mostly of residential structures, some of them dating to not long after the town's incorporation in 1740. Most of the village center was developed in the 19th century. Notable buildings include the 1837 Greek Revival Center Church (now used as a performance space), the 1886 Old Town Hall, and the 1926 Colonial Revival library building.: 14 The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
