Vire

The canton of Vire Normandie (before 2021: Vire) is an administrative division of the Calvados department, northwestern France. Its borders were modified at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. Its seat is in Vire Normandie. It consists of the following communes:

Vire Normandie (French pronunciation: [viʁ nɔʁmɑ̃di]) is a commune in the Calvados department and Normandy region of north-western France. It was established on 1 January 2016 as a result of the merger of the former communes of Vire (seat of the new municipality), Coulonces, Maisoncelles-la-Jourdan, Roullours, Saint-Germain-de-Tallevende-la-Lande-Vaumont, Truttemer-le-Grand, Truttemer-le-Petit and Vaudry. Vire Normandie is the administrative centre (chef-lieu) of the arrondissement of Vire. Vire station has rail connections to Argentan, Paris and Granville.

The Donjon de Vire (Vire Keep) is a ruined building situated in the commune of Vire in the Calvados département of France. The keep is the main vestige of an 11th-century castle.

The arrondissement of Vire is an arrondissement of France in the Calvados department in the Normandy region. It has 44 communes. Its population is 72,565 (2016), and its area is 1,205.9 km2 (465.6 sq mi).

Saint-Germain-de-Tallevende-la-Lande-Vaumont (French pronunciation: [sɛ̃ ʒɛʁmɛ̃ də talvɑ̃d la lɑ̃d vomɔ̃] ) is a former commune in the Calvados department in the Normandy region in northwestern France. On 1 January 2016, it was merged into the new commune of Vire Normandie. It was one of the three communes in the French Republic which have the longest name (38 letters). The other two are: Saint-Remy-en-Bouzemont-Saint-Genest-et-Isson, Marne Beaujeu-Saint-Vallier-Pierrejux-et-Quitteur, Haute-Saône

Saint-Manvieu-Bocage (French pronunciation: [sɛ̃ mɑ̃vjø bɔkaʒ] ) is a former commune in the Calvados department in the Normandy region in northwestern France. On 1 January 2017, it was merged into the new commune Noues de Sienne.

Vengeons (French pronunciation: [vɑ̃ʒɔ̃]) is a former commune in the Manche department in Normandy in north-western France. On 1 January 2016, it was merged into the commune of Sourdeval.

Le Mesnil-Benoist (French pronunciation: [lə mɛnil bənwa] ) is a former commune in the Calvados department in the Normandy region in northwestern France. On 1 January 2017, it was merged into the new commune Noues de Sienne.

Souleuvre en Bocage (French pronunciation: [sulœvʁ ɑ̃ bɔkaʒ], literally Souleuvre in Bocage) is a commune in the department of Calvados, northwestern France. The municipality was established on 1 January 2016 by merger of the former communes of Beaulieu, Le Bény-Bocage (the seat), Bures-les-Monts, Campeaux, Carville, Étouvy, La Ferrière-Harang, La Graverie, Malloué, Montamy, Mont-Bertrand, Montchauvet, Le Reculey, Saint-Denis-Maisoncelles, Sainte-Marie-Laumont, Saint-Martin-des-Besaces, Saint-Martin-Don, Saint-Ouen-des-Besaces, Saint-Pierre-Tarentaine and Le Tourneur.

The Souleuvre (French pronunciation: [sulœvʁ]) is a 19.0 km long right affluent of the Vire in Normandy, northwestern France.
