Sidbury Castle

Sidbury Manor is a privately owned 19th-century country mansion situated at Sidbury, Sidmouth, East Devon. It is a Grade II listed building. Built in 1879, the country house is a red brick building with a slate roof, including two towers, one square and the other octagonal. It is owned by the Cave baronets.

Sidford is a small village in the civil parish of and on the outskirts of the town of Sidmouth in the English county of Devon. It has a population of just over 2,100 people according to the 2001 Census. The Church of England Church, St Peter's, is part of the Sid Valley Mission. It gets its name from being on the River Sid, which runs for four miles into Lyme Bay at Sidmouth. One can walk along the river down the Byes into Sidmouth and to the sea. There is a 12th-century packhorse bridge over the river that was the site of a 1644 skirmish in the English Civil War.In the village centre there is a small Spar supermarket with a post office, a fish and chip shop, Bloaters. There is also a hairdresser, a sports injury clinic, a pub called the Rising Sun and a veterinary surgery. The Salty Monk opposite the Church is a sixteenth century building operated as a bed and breakfast. In sport, there is the Sidford Tennis Club, and Sidmouth Rugby Club also have training pitches there. Sidford's most famous pub is the Blue Ball Inn, a 14th-century lodging house that burned to the ground in 2007 and is now rebuilt.

Sidbury is a large village north of Sidmouth on the A375 road in Devon, England. In 2011 the built-up area had a population of 457. In 1951 the civil parish had a population of 2,507.It is situated on the River Sid, which rises at Crowpits Covert (OSGB36 grid reference SY138963) and runs for 6 miles (10 km) to Lyme Bay at Sidmouth. Above the village is Sidbury Castle, the site of an Iron Age hill fort. Sidbury is mentioned in the Domesday Book as the manor of Sideberia, held by Bishop Osbern of Exeter. The Church of St Peter and St Giles has a Norman tower topped with a spire, a Saxon crypt, a gunpowder storage room dating from the Napoleonic era and a 500-year-old font. The tower has eight bells, the earliest dating from 1662 and 1663. Six more were hung in 1712, 1750, 1752, 1776 and two in 1947 to complete the present eight. Both the tower and the rest of the church are Norman but the tower was accurately rebuilt in 1884. The north aisle is possibly 13th century and the south porch Perpendicular. The windows are medieval and of various periods; the octagonal font is Perpendicular. The church is a Grade I listed building. The actress Joan Hickson, known for her lead role in the television series Miss Marple, is buried in the churchyard under her married name of Joan Bogle Butler.The village has a primary school, a village hall, a pub (the Red Lion), and one butcher's shop also selling groceries and newspapers. There is a working watermill in the village. The manor house, Sidbury Manor, lies 1 km (0.62 mi) northwest of the village centre. There is a regular bus service to Sidmouth and Exeter. A small hamlet of Sidbury in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa, was founded by Lt. Richard Daniell, R.N. He had been native of this Devon village and was leader of Daniell party of 1820 Settlers to South Africa. He also helped found the Anglican church there and named it after his home church.

Sidmouth College is a coeducational community secondary school and sixth form, located in Sidmouth in the English county of Devon.As a community school, Sidmouth College is administered by Devon County Council, and attracts pupils from as far afield as Exmouth and Exeter. In February 2012 the college was deemed 'Good' by Ofsted, with 852 students on roll. This level of improvement in the College's provision followed its last inspection (May 2009) when it was deemed 'satisfactory'. After the 2005 Ofsted report, when there were 869 students on roll, it was also deemed 'satisfactory'.Sidmouth College offers GCSEs and BTECs as programmes of study for pupils, while students in the sixth form have the option to study from a range of A-levels and further BTECs. The school also has a specialism in technology.

Sidmouth Town Association Football Club is a football club based in Sidmouth, Devon, England. They are currently members of the South West Peninsula League Premier Division East and play at Manstone Lane.

Sidmouth railway station was a fully operational station located in Sidmouth, Devon, England until its closure in 1967. The station is now a privately owned property at the top of Alexandria Road, Sidmouth. The line was part of the Southern Railway, a branch off the Salisbury to Exeter route (West of England Main Line) at Sidmouth Junction.

The Norman Lockyer Observatory, the Lockyer Technology Centre, and the Planetarium (jointly NLO), is a public access optical observatory 1 mile (1.6 km) east of Sidmouth, East Devon in South West England. It houses a number of historical optical telescopes, including the Lockyer Telescope, and is operated by Norman Lockyer Observatory Society (NLOS).

The River Sid, situated in East Devon, is often claimed to be the shortest complete river in England. It flows for 6.5 miles (10.5 km) southwards from a source in Crowpits Covert (OSGB36 Grid reference SY138963) at a height of 206 metres above sea level. The source is at the head of a goyle or small ravine. The underlying geology is impermeable silty mudstones and sandstones of the Triassic Keuper marl, overlain with permeable Greensand and clay-with-flints. The junction between the Greensand and Keuper Marl forms a spring line. The river flows through Sidbury and Sidford to Sidmouth and is fed by springs flowing from East Hill and water from the Roncombe Stream, the Snod Brook and the Woolbrook. In Sidmouth the river outflows at the Ham through a shingle bar.The Sid Vale Association, the first Civic Society in Britain (founded in 1846), is based in the Sid Vale.

Salcombe Regis is a coastal village near Sidmouth in Devon, England. Mentioned in the Domesday Book as "a manor called Selcoma" held by Osbern FitzOsbern, bishop of Exeter, the manor house stood on the site now occupied by Thorn Farm. The thorn tree growing in an enclosure at the road junction above the farm marked the cultivation boundary between manor and common ground.The church of St Peter was built c. 1107 and restored in 1845. It contains monuments to the distinguished scientists Sir Ambrose Fleming and Sir Norman Lockyer, both buried there.
