Newton, Massachusetts

The Boston Edison Power Station is a historic power station at 374 Homer Street in Newton, Massachusetts. Built in 1904 and twice enlarged, it is a significant reminder of the city's early electrification efforts, providing power to both area buildings and the local streetcar network. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. It presently serves as a power distribution hub.

The Newton City Hall and War Memorial is a historic city hall and war memorial building located in the village of Newton Centre in Newton, Massachusetts. Built in 1932 in the Colonial Revival style, the building was designed by Allen and Collens, with landscaping by the renowned Olmsted Brothers. The building's purpose was to serve as a new city hall, and as a memorial to the city's soldiers of the First World War. On February 16, 1990, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Built in 1913–14 for Leland Powers, it is a prominent large-scale example of American Craftsman architecture. It has served as the official residence of two presidents of Brandeis University as well as Roger Berkowitz, the CEO of Legal Sea Foods. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.

The Lafayette Goodbar House is a historic house at 614 Walnut Street in Newton, Massachusetts. Built in 1915 to a design by local architect Walter A. Rollins, it is Newton's finest example of Bungalow style architecture. It is a single story stucco-clad structure, with an overhanging gable roof that has exposed rafters. Its windows are arrayed in banks, and have small panes. There are knee braces that give visual support to the building's many gables.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Bullough's Pond, a former mill pond located in Newton, Massachusetts, is now a decorative pond in a suburban neighborhood, used for bird watching and walking. In the nineteenth century it was the site of a commercial ice business. Since the early 2000s, temperatures have warmed to the point that its winter ice is no longer thick enough to support skating safely.

The Morton Road Historic District encompasses an example of a small residential subdivision in Newton, Massachusetts that was attractively designed in 1915. The architect-designed subdivision filled in an area otherwise surrounded by roads that had been developed earlier, and was built out between 1915 and 1928, with a fairly uniform use of Craftsman and Tudor Revival styling. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

The F. Lincoln Pierce Houses are a pair of historic houses at 231 and 237 Mill Street in Newton, Massachusetts. Both houses were built in 1914 to designs by the Boston firm of Derby & Robinson. The house at 237 Mill Street is a well-executed example of neo-Federalist design, while the smaller house at 231 Mill Street is a more modest Georgian Revival cottage. Both houses were built for Boston lawyer F. Lincoln Pierce, who lived at number 237.The houses were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

The George W. Eddy House is a historic house at 85 Bigelow Road in Newton, Massachusetts. The 2+1⁄2-story stucco-clad house was built in 1913 for George W. Eddy, a merchant, to a design by the noted area firm of Chapman & Frazer. It is Newton's finest example of Craftsman styling; its slate hip roof includes curved sections above paired windows, a detail that is repeated in dormers that pierce the roof. A shed-style roof along a portion of the main facade shelters a recessed main entrance, whose flanking sidelight windows contain leaded glass.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Newton North High School, formerly Newton High School, is the larger and longer-established of two public high schools in Newton, Massachusetts, the other being Newton South High School. It is located in the village of Newtonville. The school from 2009 to 2010 underwent controversial reconstruction of its facility, making it one of the largest and most expensive high schools ever built in the United States, with a price tag of nearly US$200 million. The new building opened for classes in September 2010.

The James Lorin Richards House is an historic house and carriage barn in Newton, Massachusetts. The house is located at 47 Kirkstall Road and the carriage barn, which has been converted to a residence, is at 22 Oakwood Road. The high-style Shingle buildings were designed by Samuel J. Brown and built in 1901 for James Lorin Richards, a successful businessman who made his fortune in tobacco, and was heavily involved in Boston-area electric companies. He also served as president of Norumbega Park, a major early-20th century amusement park in Newton.The house and barn were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

1008 Beacon Street is a historic house in the Newton Centre neighborhood of Newton, Massachusetts. It is also where Holden lives. Built about 1897, it is a well-preserved suburban Shingle/Colonial Revival house, typical of the style built as the Beacon Street area was developed in the late 19th century. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.
