River Thame

Shillingford is a hamlet on the north bank of the River Thames in Warborough civil parish in South Oxfordshire, England. It lies on the A4074 between Oxford and Reading, at the junction with the A329.

Warborough is a village and civil parish in South Oxfordshire, about 2.5 miles (4 km) north of Wallingford and about 9 miles (14 km) south of Oxford. The parish also includes the hamlet of Shillingford, south of Warborough beside the River Thames.

The Abbey Church of St Peter and St Paul, more usually called Dorchester Abbey, is a Church of England parish church in Dorchester on Thames, Oxfordshire, about 8 miles (13 km) southeast of Oxford. It was formerly a Norman abbey church and was built on the site of a Saxon cathedral.

Dorchester Abbey Museum is a local museum in the town of Dorchester, Oxfordshire, England. It is attached to Dorchester Abbey. The museum occupies two buildings on the site of Dorchester Abbey. The Old Schoolroom, part of the former 14th-century guest house of the abbey, has displays of artefacts, illustrations and maps concerning the history of Dorchester and its surroundings. The area has been inhabited for over 6,000 years. It also houses a historical archive. The Cloister Gallery is a new gallery on the northern wall of the Abbey, built in 2001. It displays a permanent exhibition, "If Stones Could Speak", presenting the Abbey using its collection of carved and moulded medieval stonework.The museum was short-listed for the 2006 Gulbenkian Prize for the Cloister Gallery.

Dorchester on Thames (or Dorchester-on-Thames) is a village and civil parish in Oxfordshire, about 3 miles (5 km) northwest of Wallingford and 8 miles (13 km) southeast of Oxford. The town is a few hundred yards from the confluence of the River Thames and River Thame. A common practice of the scholars at Oxford was to refer to the river Thames by two separate names, with Dorchester on Thames the point of change. Downstream of the village, the river continued to be named The Thames, while upstream it was named The Isis. Ordnance Survey maps continued the practice by labelling the river as "River Thames or Isis" above Dorchester, however, this distinction is rarely made outside the city of Oxford.

Brightwell Barrow is a Bronze Age round barrow in the civil parish of Brightwell-cum-Sotwell in the English county of Oxfordshire (formerly Berkshire). It lies just under a kilometre from Wittenham Clumps. Its position is marked by a small clump of trees on its peak. Brightwell Barrow is mentioned in the Domesday Book under the entry for Brightwell-cum-Sotwell.

Brightwell-cum-Sotwell is a twin-village and civil parish in the Upper Thames Valley in South Oxfordshire. It lies between Didcot to the west and the historic market town of Wallingford to the east. In 1974 it was transferred from Berkshire to the county of Oxfordshire, and from Wallingford Rural District to the district of South Oxfordshire.

Little Wittenham SSSI is a 68.9-hectare (170-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest north-east of Didcot in Oxfordshire. It is also a Special Area of Conservation.This site, which is managed by the Earth Trust, consists of woods, grassland, scrub and ponds on the slope of a hill next to the River Thames. Flora include the nationally scarce greater dodder, and there is a rich assemblage of amphibians, including one of the largest populations in the country of the great crested newt, which is a priority species of the Biodiversity action plan.

Brightwell Castle was in the village of Brightwell-cum-Sotwell, between the towns of Didcot and Wallingford (grid reference SU578908), now in Oxfordshire but until 1974 in Berkshire, in England. The castle was built in 1145 by King Stephen. At the time there was civil war known as The Anarchy between King Stephen and his cousin Empress Matilda, whose headquarters were at nearby Wallingford Castle. In 1153 the castle was destroyed by Matilda's son, who later became Henry II. A manor house now stands on the site.

Brightwell Manor is a country house in the village of Brightwell-cum-Sotwell, Oxfordshire, England. The back dates to around the mid-seventeenth century, or possibly earlier as there is a date of 1605 on the rear. The front was built in the mid-eighteenth century. It has been a Grade II listed building since 1952. It is owned by former British prime minister Boris Johnson and his wife Carrie Johnson.

The Poem Tree was a beech tree with a poem carved into it by Joseph Tubb, located on Castle Hill at Wittenham Clumps in Oxfordshire, England. The tree was believed to be around 300 years old, with Tubb's poem being carved in the 1840s. The tree died in the 1990s and rotted completely while standing, before collapsing during a period of inclement weather in July 2012.A stone, including a transcription and rubbing of the poem, was erected close to the tree in 1994, to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the carving.

The Aston Martin Heritage Trust (AMHT) is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation that manages the Aston Martin Museum an automobile museum presenting the history of Aston Martin cars. It is located off Dorchester Road in the village of Drayton St Leonard, South Oxfordshire, England. The AMHT was founded in 1998 and the Museum opened in 2002. It is housed in a 15th-century barn, built by the monks of Dorchester Abbey. The collection ranges from the oldest surviving Aston Martin car, No. 3 to a Vanquish Volante pre-production model dating from 2013.
