The 2017 Ricoh Women's British Open was played 3–6 August in Scotland at Kingsbarns Golf Links in Fife. It was the 41st Women's British Open, the 17th as a major championship on the LPGA Tour, and the first at Kingsbarns, southeast of nearby St Andrews. This was the first WBO organised by The R&A, which merged with the Ladies' Golf Union in late 2016.The event was televised by Golf Channel and NBC Sports in the United States and Sky Sports in the United Kingdom.

Kingsbarns Golf Links is a seaside Scottish links golf course along 1.8 miles of shoreline near St Andrews, Scotland. It opened in 2000 and has been rated as one of the best courses in Scotland. It has also been ranked as one of the top 100 courses in the world, and received numerous media and industry awards. The course was designed by Kyle Phillips and the original developers were Mark Parsinen (1948-2019) and Art Dunkley. Dunkley retains ownership of the golf course following Parsinen’s departure in 2005. Since 2001, Kingsbarns has co-hosted the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, which is a European Tour pro-am event that is also played at The Old Course and Carnoustie Golf Links. In July 2017, Kingsbarns hosted the Ricoh Women’s British Open.

Kingsbarns is a village and parish in Scotland lies near the eastern coast of Fife, in an area known as the East Neuk, 6.5 miles (10.5 km) southeast of St Andrews and 3.6 miles (5.8 km) north of Crail. The name derives from the area being the location of the barns used to store grain before being transported to the Palace at Falkland. The coast around Kingsbarns is also known as a challenging surfing area. Pitmilly, a former estate that was owned by the Monypenny family for over seven centuries, is located about 1.5 miles from Kingsbarns on the road to St Andrews. Ruins of two mills and the Bronze Age tumulus, Pitmilly Law, are still evident. Little remains of Pitmilly House. The civil parish has a population of 443 (in 2011).

Crail Parish Church is an ancient church building in Crail, Fife, Scotland. It is Category A listed, its oldest part dating to the 12th century. The walls and gravestones of its kirkyard are also Category A listed.In its first form, the church building consisted of an unaisled rectangular nave and chancel of Romanesque design. In the early 13th century, a western tower with small spire was added, and a double arcade of round pillars of variegated red sandstone in the nave. It was in this form, in 1243, that the church was dedicated to St Maelrubha by the Bishop of St Andrews. The side walls were rebuilt in Regency times, and the large pointed windows, filled with panes of clear glass held by astragals, rather than leads, allow light to flood into the interior. The church retains some 17th-century woodwork. The early Christian cross-slab is on display in the church: it is of unusual form (perhaps 10th century), formerly set in the floor. John Knox, visiting Crail on his way to St Andrews in 1559, was moved to deliver a sermon in the church. Afterwards, protesters went through the church and forcefully removed images which were put in place by previous generations but were now considered ideologically unsound.

Crail Tolbooth and Town Hall is a municipal structure in Crail, Fife, Scotland. The building, which stands in Marketgate, at its junction with Tolbooth Wynd, is Category A listed.

The Golf Hotel is a hotel and restaurant in Crail, Fife, Scotland. It is a Category A listed building dating to the early 18th century, although one source claims it is 16th century.John Dickson, a sergeant major in the Royal Scots Greys who fought in the 1815 Battle of Waterloo, became a landlord at the establishment when it was known as the Golf Inn. He was the last known Scot involved in the battle when he died, aged 97.

Kingsbarns railway station served the village of Kingsbarns, Fife, Scotland from 1883 to 1930 on the Fife Coast Railway.

Crail Castle was a castle that was located in Crail, Fife, Scotland. Crail became a Royal Burgh in the 12th century. The castle was frequented by King David I of Scotland during his reign in the early 12th century and a receipt for its repair survives dated 1264. Ada de Warenne obtained Crail as part of her marriage settlement with Prince Henry of Scotland. King Robert I of Scotland reconfirmed Crail's burgh status in 1306 and confirmed the constabulary of the castle to Lawrence de Weirmerstoun in 1310. Within the castle was a chapel dedicated to the Irish Saint Rufus.A charter dated 1563 by Mary, Queen of Scots describes the castle as ruinous, with nothing remaining of it but its moat; it was to be given to David Spens of Wormistoun with permission to rebuild it. While it is uncertain if he or his heirs did so, an 1803 account of the site refers to "the ruins of a strong castle." The only visible remains of the castle is a 5.2-metre-long (17 ft 1 in) wall of rough mortared masonry located in Castle Garden (RO 6130 0747).

Royal Naval Air Station Crail (RNAS Crail, also known as HMS Jackdaw) is a former Royal Naval Air Station of the Fleet Air Arm located 4.9 miles (7.9 km) east of Anstruther, Fife and 8.8 miles (14.2 km) from St Andrews, Fife, Scotland. It was home to a site of the Joint Services School for Linguists from 1956 to 1960.
