Southside, Alabama

Southside High School is the largest school in the Etowah County School System, serving 900 students in grades 9–12. The students come from the communities of Southside and Rainbow City. The school is housed in a building constructed in 2007. Their mascot is the panther, and their colors are maroon and black.Southside High School has a 91% graduation rate. Its student population is 92.2% White, 3.6% Black, 2.2% Hispanic and 2.0% other.

Rainbow City is a city in Etowah County, Alabama, United States. It incorporated in 1950. The population was 9,602 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Gadsden Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Licensed to Southside, Alabama, United States, it serves East Alabama including Gadsden, Anniston and Pell City. Named 2015 Radio Station of the Year by the Alabama Broadcasters Association on March 21, 2015, the station is owned by Williams Communications, Inc.

Neely Henry Lake is located on the Coosa River near Gadsden, Alabama. The lake was formed by the Neely Henry Dam (57 feet (17 m) high), built in 1966 by Alabama Power Company for hydroelectric power and recreation. Completed on June 2, 1966, the dam and reservoir were named for H. Neely Henry, a senior executive vice-president of Alabama Power. The dam has a 72,900 kilowatt generating capacity; the lake covers 11,200 surface acres (45.3 km2) with a total capacity of 129,800 acre-feet (0.1601 km3) and about 339 miles (546 km) of shoreline. The nearest town is Ohatchee, Alabama to the East of the dam, and Ragland, Alabama to the West. It is an excellent recreational lake with fishing opportunities for largemouth bass, spotted bass, bluegill and other sunfish, crappie, catfish, striped bass, hybrid and white bass. Alabama Power maintains three public access sites on the lake.

Gadsden City High School is a public high school, located in Gadsden, Alabama, United States serving approximately 1500 students in grades nine through twelve. The school is the only high school in the Gadsden City School System. Admission is open to any students living in Etowah County, Alabama.

Gadsden State Community College (Gadsden State, Gadsden, or GSCC) is a public community college with campuses in Gadsden, Centre and Anniston, Alabama. The college was founded as a merger between Alabama Technical College (1925), Gadsden State Technical Institute (1960) and Gadsden State Junior College (1965). Gadsden State is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. It offers associate degree, certificate and non-credit courses thorough more than 70 programs. The college's campuses serve Calhoun, Cherokee (all but the northern one-sixth), Cleburne, Etowah and St. Clair (the northeastern third) counties, as well as neighboring counties in Georgia.Gadsden's athletic teams compete in the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). They are collectively known as the Cardinals.

On April 9, 1990, Atlantic Southeast Airlines Flight 2254, a scheduled passenger flight from Muscle Shoals, Alabama, to Gadsden, Alabama, to Atlanta, Georgia, was involved in a mid-air collision with a Cessna 172 over Gadsden. The collision resulted in the death of the pilot and passenger of the Cessna 172.

Ohatchee (inc. 1956) is a town in Calhoun County, Alabama, United States. At the 2020 census, the population was 1,157. It is included in the Anniston–Oxford, Alabama Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Glencoe (local pronunciation "Glin-ko") is a city in Calhoun and Etowah counties in the U.S. state of Alabama. It is part of the Gadsden Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city incorporated in 1939. The population was 5,160 at the 2010 census.
