Mount Gilead State Park

The Morrow County Courthouse is a historic government building in the village of Mount Gilead, Ohio, United States. Constructed in the middle of the nineteenth century, it has served as the county courthouse since Morrow County's earliest years, and it has been named a historic site.

Levering Hall is a historic building in downtown Mount Gilead, Ohio, United States. A fine example of the Italianate style, it was intended to house a range of civic functions.: 1074 Architecturally, Levering Hall is distinguished by such elements as elaborate ironwork and detailed cornices.: 1074  Built in the national centennial year of 1876, it was initially conceived as a village hall and fire station, but before construction began, local businessmen proposed using its front portion for commercial purposes. Ultimately, the front and rear were built separately at a combined cost of $22,500. Among the most distinctive portions of the finished two-piece building was an opera hall, used as a community theater until the end of the 1940s. The village offices and fire station also left the building in the middle of the twentieth century.: 1075 Plans for the building that became Levering Hall were laid during a period of rapid growth for the village of Mount Gilead, which had only recently been a tiny crossroads community. The hall's cornerstone was laid on June 28, 1876, and construction was finished by the end of the year. Its builders were Miller and Smith, who were known for their work on several Ohio county courthouses and the Ohio Penitentiary in Columbus. Leading Mount Gilead businessman Allen Levering was the building's namesake; a future state legislator, he helped to organize the local business association that proposed using the building for commercial purposes.: 1075 In 1980, Levering Hall was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It qualified for listing because of its distinctive architecture, its part in overall local history, and its connection to Allen Levering.

Mount Gilead is a village and the county seat of Morrow County, Ohio, United States. It is located 41 miles (66 km) northeast of Columbus. The population was 3,503 at the 2020 census. It is the center of population of Ohio. The village was established in 1832, eight years after white settlers arrived in the region. Before their arrival, the forest was a hunting area for the Shawnee tribe. Located in the center of the village is Morrow County's historic World War I Victory Memorial Shaft, unique in the United States, and Mount Gilead State Park is nearby on State Route 95. Other areas drawing tourism include the Amish farms, shops and stores east of Mount Gilead, near Chesterville and Johnsville. Mount Gilead is also home to the Morrow County Hospital.

Mount Gilead High School is a public high school in Mount Gilead, Ohio. It is the only high school in the Mount Gilead Exempted Village Schools district. Their nickname is the Indians. The school currently is under superintendent Dr. Zack Howard. The school uses three buildings for students: Park Avenue, a K-5 building; Cherry Street (admin. bldg.), a middle school containing 6–8; and the High School, also located on Park Avenue. Over the past four years the Cross Country team has participated in the state tournament. In 2002 Jake Haughn won the Division III OHSAA 3200 Meter run title in track, at the time setting a new record. The School has a long-standing and fierce rivalry with Cardington-Lincoln High School.

The James S. Trimble House is a historic residence in the village of Mount Gilead, Ohio, United States. The most significant house in the village, it was built in the middle of the nineteenth century, and it has been designated a historic site. Born in 1818 in Mount Vernon: 257  into one of the area's pioneer families, Trimble was a merchant in Mount Gilead, operating a shop on Main Street by 1848.: 94  Finding his wealth growing, Trimble paid less attention to his dry goods store, opening a warehouse and becoming involved in selling grain in the nearby village of Edison; as time passed, he also formed a bank.Possessed of a large lot along Iberia Street in Mount Gilead, Trimble chose to build his house on the property in 1853. Constructed of brick,: 256  and designed by the architectural firm of Miller and Smith, it is the largest and most elaborate house in the village, due largely to its unusually high degree of preservation. Few ornate Italianate houses built before the Civil War remain in the area, and the large lot makes the house even more prominent in Mount Gilead, one of Ohio's smallest county seats. Trimble lived in the house for twenty-five years; in April 1878, his investments in other businesses proved ruinous when those businesses failed,: 257  and he was forced to sell the house in his bankruptcy. For many years after this event, it was the home of Perry Cook and his family; they sold it to another family in the 1940s, and it was purchased from that family by the local Presbyterian church in 1982.In 1982, the James S. Trimble House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, qualifying because of its historically significant architecture. Fully 4 acres (1.6 ha) of land were designated as historic, and five different buildings in this area qualified as contributing properties. Trimble's home is one of four Mount Gilead properties to have received this distinction, and one of fifteen countywide.

Morrow County is a county located in the central portion of the U.S. state of Ohio. As of the 2020 census, the population was 34,950. Its county seat is Mount Gilead. The county was organized in 1848 from parts of four neighboring counties and named for Jeremiah Morrow who was the Governor of Ohio from 1822 to 1826. Shawnee people used the area for hunting purposes before white settlers arrived in the early 19th century. Morrow County is included in the Columbus, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 2010, the center of population of Ohio was located in Morrow County, near the village of Marengo.Morrow County's historic World War I Victory Shaft, unique in the United States, is located in the center of downtown Mount Gilead. Other areas interesting to the tourist include: Mount Gilead State Park; Amish farms and businesses near Johnsville and Chesterville; the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course near Steam Corners; the rolling Allegheny foothills of eastern Morrow County; the site of the birthplace of President Warren G. Harding near Blooming Grove; the site of the former Ohio Central College in Iberia; the early 19th-century architecture of buildings in Chesterville, Ohio; the Revolutionary War Soldiers' Memorial in Mount Gilead; the Civil War monument in Cardington; and the mid-19th-century architecture of the Morrow County Courthouse and Old Jail in Mount Gilead.

Gilead Township is one of the sixteen townships of Morrow County, Ohio, United States. The 2020 census found 5,942 people lived in the township; 3,503 lived in the village of Mount Gilead and 422 lived in the village of Edison.

Morrow County Airport (FAA LID: 4I9) is a public airport located two miles southwest of Mount Gilead, Ohio, United States. It is owned and operated by the Morrow County Airport Authority.

Hidden Lakes is a census-designated place (CDP) in Morrow County, Ohio, United States. It was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census.The CDP is in central Morrow County, in the northwest part of Franklin Township. It is bordered to the north by Congress Township and very slightly by Gilead Township. It is a recreational community built around a small artificial lake and the headwaters of the Kokosing River, a southeast-flowing tributary of the Walhonding River and part of the Muskingum River watershed leading to the Ohio. Hidden Lakes is 4 miles (6 km) east of Mount Gilead, the Morrow county seat, and 23 miles (37 km) southwest of Mansfield.
