Ballinhassig

Ballinhassig is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the village of Ballinhassig in County Cork, Republic of Ireland. The club was founded in 1886, and now plays Hurling at Premier Intermediate level, having won the Cork Intermediate Hurling Championship in 2005, and the Cork Junior Hurling Championship in 2002. Stemming from these County Championship wins, Ballinhassig competed in Munster and All-Ireland Club Championships, and have won the following Club Championship Finals: Junior Munster Club Final, Junior All-Ireland Junior Club Hurling Championship Final, Intermediate Munster Club Final; but lost out to Dicksboro, of Kilkenny town, in the All-Ireland Intermediate Club Hurling Championship Final, played in Croke Park. The club also plays Gaelic football, but hurling is much stronger. The club is a member of Carrigdhoun division of Cork GAA. Ballinhassig also have their own Camogie team, who play at Senior A level. The underage boys and girls teams compete in the South East League and Championship (from under 10s to under 16's ).

Kinalea (Irish: Cineál Aodha) is a historical barony in central County Cork, Ireland. Baronies were mainly cadastral rather than administrative units. They acquired modest local taxation and spending functions in the 19th century before being superseded by the Local Government (Ireland) Act 1898.

Halfway (Irish: Leath Slighe) is a village in County Cork, in Ireland. Halfway got its name from being situated approximately halfway between Cork City and Bandon. Halfway is situated on the L2231, just off the N71, close to the neighbouring village of Ballinhassig. Ballinhassig Garda station is located in Halfway. Halfway formerly had two pubs; however, there is now only the Ramble Inn pub. There is also an angling shop.The annual Halfway Vintage Rally, a meeting of vintage car owners and enthusiasts, takes place over one weekend in September. Road bowling is sometimes played on the national road between the villages of Halfway and Ballinhassig.Evidence of ancient settlement in the area includes several ringforts in the neighbouring townlands of Gortnaclogh, Annagh Beg and Rathroe.

Spur Hill transmitter This broadcast transmission site is located to the south of the city of Cork, Ireland, just north west of Cork airport, it has a cable-stayed mast 60m tall on an elevation of 137m ASL. The transmitter was initially opened in 1965 as a VHF relay of the main Mullaghanish television transmitter in County Cork. Later, FM radio transmitters were also added providing a relay of the national radio channels, and more recently, digital radio broadcasting (DAB) was started from the site. On its conversion to UHF television transmission in 1996, it became the main transmitter serving Cork city, carrying the four Irish analogue channels, RTÉ One (Ch53), RTÉ Two (Ch57), TV3 (Ch60), and TG4 (Ch63) at an effective radiated power of 20 kW. On 24 October 2012 all analogue television transmission ended in Ireland, and the station now provides the Irish DTT service Saorview to Cork city and environs. It is owned and operated by 2RN, a subsidiary of the Irish national broadcaster RTÉ.

Waterfall (Irish: Tobar an Iarla, meaning 'well of the earl') is a small village in County Cork, Ireland. It is located just south of Cork city in the parish of Ballinora. It lies on the L2230 road, connecting Crossbarry to the city. There is a pub on the Crossbarry side of the village. The local Gaelic Athletic Association team is Ballinora GAA club. The West Cork Railway once served the area, and Waterfall railway station operated from 1851 to 1961. A railway bridge, built c. 1850, is still in place on the road leading to Ballinora.

Manx2 Flight 7100 was a scheduled commercial flight from Belfast, Northern Ireland, to Cork, Republic of Ireland. On 10 February 2011, the Fairchild Metro III aircraft flying the route with ten passengers and two crew on board crashed on its third attempt to land at Cork Airport in foggy conditions. Six people, including both pilots, died. Six passengers survived but were injured, four of them seriously.The Air Accident Investigation Unit published its final report in January 2014. It stated that the probable cause of the accident was loss of control during an attempted go-around below decision height in instrument meteorological conditions (IMC).: 152  The report mentioned as contributory factors the inappropriate pairing of flight crews, inadequate command training and checking, and inadequate oversight of the charter operation by the operator and the operator's state.: 148–151 

Cork Airport (Irish: Aerfort Chorcaí, IATA: ORK, ICAO: EICK) is the second-largest of the three principal international airports in the Republic of Ireland, after Dublin and ahead of Shannon. It is located 6.5 km (4.0 mi) south of Cork city centre in an area known as Farmers Cross. In 2018, Cork Airport handled 2,392,821, growing by 8.3% to 2,585,466 passengers as of 2019 and representing a fourth consecutive year of growth. Aviation was severely impacted by the COVID-19 global pandemic in 2020 and passenger numbers at Cork Airport fell to 530,000, a decline of 80%.Cork is the state's second-busiest airport in terms of passenger numbers, after Dublin, and third busiest on the island of Ireland, after Dublin and Belfast International.
