Marine Corps Air Station New River

CSS Ellis (later USS Ellis) was a gunboat in the Confederate States Navy and the United States Navy during the American Civil War. It was lost during a raid while under command of famed Navy officer Lieutenant William B. Cushing.

Camp Geiger is a United States Marine Corps base. Although not geographically connected, Camp Geiger is part of the Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune complex, and is home to the United States Marine Corps School of Infantry East for all Marines recruited through the Eastern Recruiting Region. Located off U.S. Route 17 about 10 miles south of Camp Lejeune, it shares the main gate of Marine Corps Air Station New River. It trains approximately 20,000 Marines every year.

Mill Avenue Historic District is a national historic district located at Jacksonville, Onslow County, North Carolina. The district encompasses 31 contributing buildings, 1 contributing site, and 1 contributing structure in a predominantly residential section of Jacksonville. The district developed after 1890 and includes notable examples of Late Victorian and Bungalow / American Craftsman style architecture. Notable contributing buildings include the Jarman Hotel (c. 1890), Jacksonville Depot, Richard Ward House (c. 1890), Richard Ward Guest House, the Lockamy-Chadwick House, George Bender House (1901), Samuel Ambrose House, the Marine House, Steve Aman House, and the Henrietta Jarman House. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

The Bank of Onslow and the Jacksonville Masonic Temple are two adjoining historic buildings located at 214 and 216 Old Bridge Street, in Jacksonville, Onslow County, North Carolina. The buildings are in the Beaux Arts architecture and Tudor Revival architecture, and were constructed in 1916, and 1919 respectively. They were jointly listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989 as a national historic district. The Masonic Temple was originally constructed by La Fayette Lodge No. 83, A. F. & A. M. and served as their meeting hall until 1955 (when the lodge moved to new premises). It is currently used as office space by the town government.

The Pelletier House is a historic home and national historic district located at Jacksonville, Onslow County, North Carolina. Built in the 1850s by Rufus Ferrand Pelletier in the Greek Revival style, it sits atop Wantland Spring on the banks of the New River. Initially constructed as a one-room dwelling to serve as home and office, additional rooms were built onto the structure during later years. The house itself was originally part of a turpentine lot owned by Rufus Pelletier and his brother William Pelletier. These rooms were damaged during a fire in the early 1950s. The house was occupied by Pelletier's daughter Eliza until her death in 1954. Subsequently, the Onslow Historical Society acquired and maintained the structure until January 25, 2013, when Onslow County took over ownership. The house is opened for public viewings on special occasions. It is the oldest standing structure in Jacksonville. Pelletier House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 13, 1989.

New Bridge Middle School is one of 8 middle schools in the Onslow County School system (North Carolina). It is Onslow County's middle school magnet program for math, science and technology. While New Bridge occupies one of the older buildings in the district, it is the newest of the 7 middle schools in the district which also serve as one intra-county athletic conference. Beginning in 2012–13, Brewster Middle School (DODEA School aboard Camp LeJeune Marine Corps Base- NC) joined the Onslow County Middle School Athletic Conference.

Camp Gilbert H. Johnson is a satellite camp of Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina and home to the Marine Corps Combat Service Support Schools (MCCSSS), where various support military occupational specialties such as administration, supply, logistics, finance, Navy corpsman and motor transport maintenance are trained. Camp Johnson is situated on Montford Point, the site of recruit training for the first African Americans to serve in the Marine Corps, known as "Montford Point Marines".

The Beirut Memorial is a memorial to the 241 American peacekeepers—220 Marines, 18 sailors, and three soldiers—killed in the October 23, 1983 Beirut barracks bombing in Beirut, Lebanon. It is located outside the gate of Camp Gilbert H. Johnson, a satellite camp of Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, in Jacksonville, North Carolina. It is the site of an annual commemoration of the victims of the suicide attack that took their lives.

Jacksonville is a city in Onslow County, North Carolina, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 72,723, which makes Jacksonville the 14th-most populous city in North Carolina. Jacksonville is the county seat and most populous community of Onslow County, which is coterminous with the Jacksonville, NC Metropolitan Statistical Area. Demographically, Jacksonville is the youngest city in the United States, with an average age of 22.8 years old, which can be attributed to the large military presence. The low age may also be in part due to the population drastically increasing over the past 80 years, from 783 in the 1930 census to 72,723 in the 2020 census. It is the home of the United States Marine Corps' Camp Lejeune and New River Air Station. Jacksonville is located adjacent to North Carolina's Crystal Coast area.

Southwest Historic District, also known as Waltons Store Historic District, is a national historic district located near Waltons Store, Onslow County, North Carolina. The district encompasses 14 contributing buildings and 2 contributing sites surrounding the crossroads community of Waltons Store. The district includes the Southwest Primitive Baptist Church, Southwest School (c. 1913), two cemeteries, and three farmsteads associated with the Walton family. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

Stone Bay is a satellite facility of Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. Based on the south side of Camp Lejeune, it is home to Weapons Training Battalion, which functions as the primary facility for weapons qualifications on Camp Lejeune, having several shooting ranges: three rifle ranges, two pistol ranges, and one long sniper range and the headquarters of United States Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command, with the MARSOC compound on Stone Bay opening in 2010. The parent command responsible for the ranges is Weapons Training Battalion (WTBN). WTBN is broken down into two companies, Range Company and Headquarters Company. Headquarters Company contains the Marksmanship Training Unit, which is responsible for training Marines to become Combat Marksmanship Coaches and Combat Marksmanship Trainers in support of range operations. Three of the ranges (Alpha, Bravo, and Charlie respectively) are standard USMC ranges up to 500 yards for rifle qualification. An excess of 25,000 Marines from Camp Lejeune conduct their annual rifle qualifications at Stone Bay. Two pistol ranges are standard USMC known distances. One range is the known and unknown distance sniper course. 1,000 meters is the longest known distance shot on this range. Stone Bay's rifle ranges have also been utilized for the purpose of testing new annual rifle training qualifications for the Marine Corps at several points in its history, most recently during the transition from the Annual Rifle Training (ART) course of fire to the Annual Rifle Qualification (ARQ). The new ARQ course of fire has an intent of replicating combat conditions where participating Marines "Close distance" with a human-sized target starting at the 500 yard line, advancing to the 300, 200, 100, and 25 yard lines over the course of fire conducting numerous shooting drills. In August and September of 2020, a total of 205 Marines from the ranks of Private to Captain completed two trial runs of the ARQ course of fire at Stone Bay utilizing the M16 rifle, M4 carbine, and M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle. The Marine Corps has since adopted ARQ as its standard annual qualifying course of fire for service rifles.

Sunday circulation is approximately 9,000, while M-Sat. circulation is roughly 7,000.
