Wickham Bishops

Shut Heath Wood is a 20.2-hectare (50-acre) nature reserve Essex. It is managed by the Essex Wildlife Trust.Over half this site is managed as farmland, and the rest is ancient oak woodland also has coppiced sweet chestnut and hornbeam, with an understorey of ash, elder and hazel. Invertebrates include damselflies, dragonflies, glow-worms and wood ants. Common blooms found on the reserve in the summer include bluebells, bugles, cuckoo flowers, wood anemones, primroses, dog violets, and wood sorrels.There is access by a footpath from Tiptree Road.

Whet Mead is a 10.1 hectare Local Nature Reserve in Witham in Essex. It is owned and managed by Braintree District Council.This site was formerly a rubbish tip, and before that a sewage works. Most of it is grassland with many different flowering plants, and a range of butterflies, dragonflies and seed-eating birds. Mammals include wood mice, bank voles and pygmy shrews. There is also scrub and young woodland. The River Brain runs along the southern boundary, meeting the River Blackwater in the south-east corner.The only access to the site is from Blackwater Lane, off Maldon Road.

The River Blackwater is a river in Essex, England. It rises as the River Pant in the northwest of the county, just east of Saffron Walden, and flows in a generally southeast direction to Bocking, near Braintree, via Great Sampford and Great Bardfield. At Bocking, it becomes the River Blackwater, and veers east to flow past Bradwell Juxta Coggeshall and Coggeshall. It then veers south, flowing past Kelvedon and Witham, before reaching Maldon. There, it veers east again and empties into the Blackwater Estuary, which in turn meets the North Sea at Mersea Island. The River Blackwater has two major tributaries: the River Brain, which meets it just south of Witham, and the River Chelmer, which meets it just east of Maldon. The lower reaches of the Chelmer, from Chelmsford, were canalised in the 1790s, and the navigation diverts water north of the Blackwater through Maldon before emptying into the Blackwater Estuary at Heybridge Basin.

Wickham Bishops railway station served the village of Wickham Bishops, Essex. It was opened in 1848 by the Maldon, Witham & Braintree Railway (MWBR) on a branch line from Witham to Maldon East and Heybridge. The station was 2 miles 39 chains (4.00 km) from Witham station. The line and station closed to passenger services in 1964 though goods traffic continued for a further two years.

Little Braxted is a village and civil parish located near the town of Witham, in the Maldon district, in the county of Essex, England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 Census was 170. According to the Census there were 84 males and 86 females living in the parish in 2011. Little Braxted has a small medieval church dedicated to St Nicholas, which was extensively decorated in the Victorian era. Little Braxted has one pub, The Green Man.Lawrence Washington was rector of St Nicholas's Church following his ejection from the somewhat better endowed All Saints Purleigh also in Essex. Langford is a village at the west end of the Dengie peninsula close to Maldon in the English county of Essex. It is part of the Wickham Bishops and Woodham ward of the Maldon district.Its name is derived from the "long ford", referring to the crossing of the River Blackwater that the village grew up around.

Langford and Ulting railway station served the village of Langford, Essex. It was opened in 1848 by the Maldon, Witham & Braintree Railway (MWBR) on a branch line from Witham to Maldon East and Heybridge. It was originally named Langford but was renamed Langford and Ulting in 1923. The station was 4 miles 38 chains (7.20 km) from Witham.The line and station closed to passenger services in 1964 as part of the Beeching closures.

The Museum of Power is located in the former Southend Waterworks (now Essex and Suffolk Water) Langford Pumping Station in Langford, Essex, England. It is on the B1019, on the main road from Maldon to Hatfield Peverel.

Great Totham is a village and civil parish in Maldon district, Essex, England, and midway between Chelmsford and Colchester. The village includes the Island of Osea in the Blackwater estuary and is separated into two parts, north and south. The north side and the south side are about a mile and a half apart, distributed along the B1022. The parish contains the hamlet of Totham Hill.

Great Braxted is a village between Great Totham and Tiptree in Essex, England. The population as of the 2011 census was 130. The local manor house is known as Braxted Park. The medieval All Saints' church is contained within its 2,000-acre estate. The place-name 'Braxted' is first attested in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it appears as Brachesteda. The name comes from the Old English 'braec', meaning 'newly cultivated land'. Great Braxted is first attested (in Latin) as Magna Bracsted in 1206, whilst Little Braxted is first attested as Parva Bracstede in 1254.
