Merkelbeek

Amstenrade is a village in the municipality of Beekdaelen, in the Netherlands. It is located about 7 km northwest of Heerlen. The Amstenrade Castle is located in the village.

Bingelrade (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈbɪŋəlˌraːdə]; Limburgish: Bèngelder [ˈbɛŋəldəʀ]) is a village in the Dutch province of Limburg. It is a part of the municipality of Beekdaelen, and lies about 6 km southeast of Sittard.

The Dutch State Mine (DSM) Emma, in Dutch Staatsmijn Emma, was a coal mine located in Treebeek, Heerlen (now part of Brunssum) run by the Dutch state through its company DSM. The mine was in operation from 1911 till 1973. It was the second-largest mine in the Netherlands, but it had the highest production of all Dutch mines at 109 megatonnes (120,000,000 short tons). Its deepest shaft III was 980 metres (3,220 ft) deep. After the 1963 merger with the DSM Hendrik the deepest shaft was 1,058 metres (3,471 ft) deep.

Jabeek (Limburgish: Jaobik, English: Yescreek) is a village in the Dutch province of Limburg. It is located in the municipality of Beekdaelen, on the German border about 8 km east of Geleen. Jabeek borders on the German village Süsterseel.

Oirsbeek is a village in the southeast of the Netherlands, part of the municipality of Beekdaelen. Between 1839 and 1982, Oirsbeek was a separate municipality. The Sint Lambertuskerk, a Roman Catholic Church, was built in 1951 by Frits Peutz on the remains of two older churches: the original church built in 1514 and a second church built in 1830. It is unknown where the name Oirsbeek originates from. It is certain that the name has to do with the creek ("beek" is Dutch for creek) that used to flow through the village. "Oir" could come from "Oer" (meaning iron-rich dirt) which is found in the area. The creek was called "vloot" by people from Oirsbeek in the past. Currently it runs through a tube in the ground under the "Grachtstraat". From there it flows in the direction of Wolfhagen, part of the village of Schinnen. Oirsbeek used to be one of 4 suburbs, "Gracht", "Klein-Doenrade", "Oirsbeek" and "Oppeven".

Brunssum (Dutch: [ˈbrʏnsʏm] ; Limburgish: Broensem) is a municipality and a town in the province of Limburg in the Netherlands. The municipality of Brunssum has 27,670 residents as of 2021. Brunssum was a center of coal mining until 1973.

Doenrade is a village in the southern Dutch province of Limburg. Historically its name has also been spelled Dudenrode and Doenradt and was along a main trade route between Germany and southern Limburg. Until 1982 it was a part of the municipality of Oirsbeek but was transferred to the municipality of Schinnen. In 2019 that municipality merged with Onderbanken and Nuth to form Beekdaelen. It lies about 4 km southeast of Sittard and borders the town of Hillensberg to the north. In 2010, Doenrade had 1,135 inhabitants. The area of the town is 4.6 km², and contained 460 households. Doenrade Castle, which was built around 1117, is situated on the edge of the town and is a popular place to stay for tourists visiting Limburg as it has been turned into a hotel and restaurant. The towns rolling hills, bucolic pastureland, and historic buildings make it seems to visitors that they've stepped back in time.

The Dutch State Mine (DSM) Hendrik, in Dutch Staatsmijn Hendrik, was a coal mine located in Brunssum. It was run by the Dutch state through its company DSM. The mine was in operation from 1915 until 1963, when it was integrated with DSM Emma. DSM Hendrik was named after Queen Wilhelmina's husband Henry of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. The mine had four shafts. Shaft number 3 was a ventilation shaft on the Brunssummerheide near Nieuwenhagen. The deepest shaft 4 was 1,058 metres (3,471 ft) deep. Total production was 61.2 megatons of gas-rich coal that was used to produce coke.

Hoensbroek (Limburgish: Gebrook) is a Dutch town in the municipality of Heerlen. It is situated in the southeast of Limburg, a province in the southeast of the Netherlands. Until 1982, Hoensbroek was a separate municipality. Hoensbroek is known for its medieval castle, Kasteel Hoensbroek, named after Knight Hoen, a member of the Hoen Family. It dates from around 1250. Hoensbroek is also known for the fair on Ascension Day (Hemelvaartsdag). The fair brings as many as 100,000 people to the town, every year. In medieval times, the town was known under the name of Gebrook, meaning as much as "Swampy Landscape", and belonged to the Family Hoen. Their family name eventually mingled with the original one, resulting in the name Hoensbroeck for the location and Van Hoensbroeck as the family name. The spoken dialect, Gerbrooker Plat, refers to the ancient name of Gebrook.

Vaesrade (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈvaːsˌraːdə]; Limburgish: Vaosje [ˈvɔːʃə]) is a village in the Dutch province of Limburg. It is located in the municipality of Beekdaelen. The village was first mentioned in 1139 as Wastrode. The etymology is unclear, but contrary to popular belief there is no relation to Servatius of Tongeren.The first church was built in 1856. In 1929, the St Servatius Church was built in expressionist style and has a square tower next to the entrance.In 1840, Vaesrade was home to 198 people. Vaesrade was a separate municipality until 1821, when it was merged with Nuth. In 2019, it became part of the municipality of Beekdaelen.

The Oranje Nassau III was a Dutch coal mine located in Heerlen. The mine was in operation from 1914 until 1973. It was the third of four mines collectively known as the Oranje Nassau Mijnen.

Heerlerheide, in Limburgish Heëlehei or Gen Hei, is a Dutch village located in the commune of Heerlen, in the province of Dutch Limburg. On 1 January 2007, the village had 3180 inhabitants.
