Peak Tower

Madame Tussauds Hong Kong, is part of the renowned chain of wax museums founded by Marie Tussaud of France, is located at the Peak Tower on Hong Kong Island in Hong Kong. It is the first Madame Tussauds museums in Asia, the other being the Shanghai branch, which opened in 2006 and the third branch at Bangkok which opened in 2010. The Hong Kong branch houses nearly 100 wax figures of internationally known personalities, with Asian figures taking up more than a third of the total, of which sixteen were Hong Kongers. The wax figures are featured in a range of themed settings such as Hong Kong Glamour, Music Icons, Historical and National Heroes, The Champions and World Premiere.

Mount Austin Barracks was a British Army base in Hong Kong during British rule. It was acquired in 1897 and developed from the former Mount Austin Hotel. It is named after John Gardiner Austin, former Hong Kong Colonial Secretary. It was located near the Peak Tram terminus at Victoria Peak. The base consisted of a series of multi-storey buildings on a hill. Damaged during World War II, it was later demolished. The Peak (Chinese: 山頂) is the upper terminus of the Peak Tram funicular railway line. It is located inside the Peak Tower at Victoria Gap, the Peak, Central and Western District, Hong Kong, 398m above sea level.

The Peak Hotel was a hotel at upper terminus of the Peak Tram in Hong Kong. It started as a bar and restaurant, and a hotel with twenty bedrooms for summer visitors opening about the same time as the Peak Tram, in 1888.About 13 years earlier, in 1875, N.J. Ede had built a house named Dunheved on the property. In 1881, Alexander Findlay Smith, a Scottish former railway man, had petitioned for the right to introduce a funicular railway to Hong Kong. The Peak Tram was built and began operations in 1888. About the same time, Findlay Smith bought Dunheved from Ede, and reopened it as the Peak Hotel; Ede and his family moved next door. After the Peak Tram opened, Findlay Smith quickly put the Peak Hotel on the market. It was sold and completely rebuilt into an imposing three-story building, reopening in 1890. It boasted of commodious and well-appointed accommodation, and the hotel was deservedly popular. Later, another story was added to make it four stories, and then a two-story annex with views down to Pok Fu Lam was built. A further addition doubled the size of the annex and added a third story. The hotel commanded views of the city and Victoria Harbour in one direction, and of Pok Fu Lam facing Lamma Island in the other. In 1922, the hotel was bought by the owners of the rival Hongkong Hotel for HK$600,000. The hotel's poor construction led to further deterioration. It closed in 1936, and in 1938 its fate was finally sealed by a fire. Today, the Peak Hotel's former site is occupied by The Peak Galleria complex.

Hong Kong Trams Station (Chinese: 香港電車文化館) is a tram museum and gift shop in Siu Sai Wan. It was formerly located at the Peak Galleria on Hong Kong Island. The museum, run by Tramric Limited, opened on 27 October 2013 to celebrate the 110th anniversary of Hong Kong Tramways. The museum claimed to be the city's first tram-themed exhibition gallery, which explored the history of the tram system and its vehicles. Historical tram items on display included a 1970s money collector, tram tickets, and iron-made tram models. A reconstructed 1950s tram scene with a wooden tram seat was also present. Lectures, model-making workshops, tram tours, and exhibition gallery talks were also offered by the museum. In May 2018, the Peak Galleria owner Hang Lung Properties informed the museum that the contract at their location would be terminated on 1 September 2018, and that rent would increase threefold. As a result, the museum closed on 26 August 2018. New branches have since been launched in Siu Sai Wan and Central Market.

The Peak Galleria (Chinese: 山頂廣場; Jyutping: saan1 deng2 gwong2 coeng4) is a leisure and shopping complex and a tourist attraction located at Victoria Gap, near the summit of Victoria Peak on Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. It is owned and run by Hang Lung Properties. It includes a bus terminus for public buses run by New World First Bus and a green minibus route that serves the Peak. The complex is adjacent to the Peak Tower, another leisure and shopping complex, which houses the upper terminus of the Peak Tram. The shopping complex houses a number of eateries. It also has a free-entry observatory deck on level 3, which is larger than the one at the Peak Tower.

Victoria Gap (Chinese: 爐峰峽) is an area and a mountain pass located between the summits of Victoria Peak (aka. Mount Austin) and Mount Gough, on Hong Kong Island, in Hong Kong. Its altitude is some 150 metres (490 ft) below the summit of Victoria Peak. It is the most touristic place within the area referred to as The Peak, which receives some seven million visitors every year.

Barker Road (Chinese: 白加道) is an intermediate station on the Peak Tram funicular railway line, and is located on Barker Road in the Peak, Central and Western District, Hong Kong, 363 metres (1,191 ft) above sea level. The station opened in 1888 along with the tramline. At this time it was named Plantation Road station as Barker Road was built not before 1898. Today, Barker Road itself passes under the tramway at the uphill end of the station on a bridge. The station comprises a single platform on the western side of the single track. Barker Road is the only intermediate station to have a 'proper' station building, with a concrete roof covering the platform and track. This roof was not there from the start but was built in 1919. All other stations only have a small shelter on the platform. Because the station is located in a high-income residential area, where most residents own a car, its patronage is relatively low. The station is a request stop at which tram cars will stop only if passengers have pressed the request button inside the tramcar or at the station. This facility is not offered during Sundays and Statutory Holidays, due to the increased demand on the tramway as a whole. No ticketing equipment is provided on the platform.

Mount Austin Playground is a park and playground along Mount Austin Road, at Victoria Peak, Hong Kong.

The Tregunter Towers (Chinese: 地利根德閣) is a complex of three residential buildings located in The Peak on Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. All three highrises, named Tregunter 1 (地利根德閣第一座), Tregunter 2 (地利根德閣第二座), and Tregunter 3 (地利根德閣第三座). Tregunter 1 and 2 were developed by Hong Kong Land, designed by Chun Wah Nam Architect and constructed by John Lok and Partners, both completed in the year 1981 and both buildings have similar floor counts at 34 and 33 respectively. The last building of the complex, Tregunter 3, was completed in 1993 or twelve years after Tregunters 1 and 2. The (Tregunter) tower 3 was designed by Rocco Yim Architects Ltd and constructed by Hip Hing Construction Co. Ltd. Tregunter 3 stands significantly taller than the first two buildings of the complex at 220 m (721 feet) with 66 stories. The top floor of Tregunter 3 stands 327 m (1,073 ft) above sea level. Upon its completion, Tregunter 3 was the world's tallest all-residential building, taking the title from the Lake Point Tower in Chicago. Tregunter 3 held this distinction until the completion of Trump World Tower in 2001. Standard apartments range from 1600 square feet to over 2500 square feet in size. The three Tregunter towers share the common facilities which often regarded as one of the most complete in the area especially for older buildings. The common facilities include a clubhouse, an outdoor tennis court and an outdoor swimming pool. Within the clubhouse, there are other sport facilities such as badminton, squash, table tennis, basketball, weight training, aerobics, etc. The clubhouse also has a restaurant, and function rooms reserved for the use by the Tregunter residents. There are also two shuttle bus routes between the complex and Central and the complex and Admiralty.

The Aigburth (Chinese: 譽皇居) is a skyscraper located in the Mid-levels district of Hong Kong. The tower rises 48 floors and 196 metres (643 ft) in height. The building was completed in 1999. It was designed by architectural firm Wong Tung & Partners, and was developed by Kerry Properties Limited. The Aigburth, which stands as the 66th-tallest building in Hong Kong, is composed entirely of residential units. It is an example of postmodern architecture.

British Hong Kong was a colony and dependent territory of the British Empire from 1841 to 1997, apart from a period under Japanese occupation from 1941 to 1945. The colonial period began with the occupation of Hong Kong Island in 1841 during the First Opium War. The island was ceded to Great Britain by the Treaty of Nanking, ratified by the Daoguang Emperor in the aftermath of the war of 1842. It was established as a Crown colony in 1843. The colony expanded to include the Kowloon Peninsula in 1860 after the Second Opium War. Hong Kong's territory was further extended in 1898 when the British obtained a 99-year lease of the New Territories. Although China ceded Hong Kong Island and Kowloon in perpetuity, the leased New Territories comprised the vast majority of the total area. Britain did not see any viable way to divide the colony, while the People's Republic of China would not consider extending the lease or allowing British administration thereafter. With the signing of the Sino-British Joint Declaration, which states that the social and economic systems in Hong Kong would remain unchanged for 50 years, the British government agreed to transfer the entire territory to China upon the expiration of the New Territories lease in 1997.
